- Berserk is one of the most beloved and famous manga in the west. As Miura grows older, we wonder if he will ever give a proper conclusion. But if we look at all the foreshadowing moments, it may be possible to predict the ending. This video will be examining such moments and form theorizes that will predict the plausible endings of Berserk. I will also be examining the possible identities of Skull Knight and Void, including an overview of the metaphysics in the Berserk Universe.
My next video will be examining arguably the greatest female character in gaming: Kreia from Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Amazing. Berserk... Miura, these people are not from here and have divine knowledge of how this plane of existence works. Berserk, Evangelion is based off this world. This is real life, but the truth must be in plain sight. We are living in Berserk Eva as we speak but we think its just a manga.... amazing work man
Something I'm noticing more and more is that Guts' "dream", though he may not know it, is kinship and family. He's at his most content and happy when surrounded by friends and loved ones he can put trust in, and it's his desire to not abandon them (or at least, not to abandon Casca) that finally pushes him to forgo his quest for revenge, and ultimately to become a better person for it. I believe the series will eventually stack Guts' dream against Griffith's, to show that, while Guts' dream is small and simple, it comes from good nature and compassion, whereas Griffith's dream is gaudy, shallow and unstable. The residents of Falconia may worship Griffith as their lord and savior, but if they knew exactly what it took for him to achieve what he has, and all the people he selfishly sacrificed to do so, they would turn on him quite quickly just as they did before. Whether they attempted to overthrow him or simply abandoned Falconia, either way Griffith's dream would crash yet again. I think this might be the way Guts ultimately achieves retribution; his dream, however meager, is far nobler and stronger than Griffith's shrine to shallow sanctimony ever was and ever will be. Whatever happens in the end, I think we can expect this to come into play, for better or worse.

im surprised that you didnt mention anything about the prophecies of the hawk of light and darkness, in which griffith is called the hawk of light but is actually the hawk of darkness who "leads blind sheep astray" .
not to forget that before the eclipse griffith and guts are referred to as the hawk of light and dark respectively (not in terms of the prophecy) but after the eclipse, once guts dons the berserk armor for the first time, giffiths appearance as fempto is that of a black hawk, whereas guts' hair begins to turn white drawing parallel to the prophecy.

I just hope that Miura passed down every single detail to somebody, or has the details in a sealed document that will be opened in case he deceases before the completion of Berserk. Or maybe Miura plays with us and intentionally delays the ending until his death. Leaving everything ultimately up to our imagination. What I learned from watching anime and reading manga, authors love to leave the ending ambiguous. The ultimate ambiguous ending for Berserk would be Miura dragging his own story with himself to the grave. To the afterlife. Unreachable by life. Unreachable by us. Leaving us to try to reach it with our imagination.

Maybe, by saying Gutts is not a shadow, but a fish that breaches the surface may realize there is more to the world than just the river. The river can't be changed by the fish, but the fish can change itself (evolution) to escape the water and tread the new world. And although it still can't destroy the moon, it can begin the events for that occasion.
A fish cannot change the current of the river. It may jump, but it changes nothing. That's the question. Can Guts do the impossible? Can he destroy Idea of Evil? Can a fish jump from the river and destroy the moon? By all accounts, it's impossible.
But maybe gutts isn't the one that will destroy the idea of evil. By being an example of someone who escaped the river of fate, others will follow suit. When it's mentioned that fate is a spiral, I wonder if it's something like Gurren lagann spiral. Not to the same level, but meaning how humans can change their own fate and everything else around them. Gutts could be like Simon, the first to break away from their cave, or, the first fish to jump out of the water.
I dunno. There's no one else hinted in the story.
Personally, I would have a huge fangasm if Guts and Griffith somehow put aside their differences and worked together to destroy Idea of Evil.
That would feel completely shonen but it would be legendary to have two old rivals killing God.
If Guts injured New Griffith's pride, like when he left the old BOTH then Griffith may snap and 'wake up' from his dream.

From what I can see there's actually quite a few references to Norse mythology in Berserk. The names of places and things such as "Elfheim" which is almost identical to "Alfheim", and the Tree of Life that connects realms which is also almost identical to what "Yggdrasil" is. Also the beast inside the Berserk armor, which looks very wolf-like, could be a reference to Fenrir who was also chained and bound until the time of Ragnarok when he would break his bonds and during the final battle with the gods would devour the god Odin. It's also interesting that the Norse god Tyr lost his right hand to Fenrir and Guts has also lost a part of his arm. Interesting things to think about.
woah cool. Now im researching more similarities between them. Tyr binded Fenrir when fenrir was a pup but was growing quickly. this might symbolize the beast of darkness and guts control over it. In ragnarok Fenrir killed tyr and odin, maybe symbolizing that the beast of darkness has already took over guts body and killed griffith (odin). Odin's sons might be the apostles. In ragnarok vidar, son of odin, kills fenrir. VIdar is second only to thor in terms of strength. This might be grunbeld and thor might be zodd and the world serpent must be skull knight.
I've noticed this before and another thing to point out is that, yes, guts lost his arm and parallels tier but he also parallels Odin because odin gave his eye for deep wisdom and understsnding of magic and the true world and Guts also lost his eye in the eclipse as he saw the world for what it really was and was exposed to the magical world.
Also I’m pretty sure it is said that Fenrir devoured the moon but I’ll have to double check that one

Your theory has a flaw in it. Dragon Slayer exists in both the physical and astral planes because it's been bathed in demon blood so many times. It's one of the few weapons in the world that can kill a God Hand by slaying their astral body as well.
Ehh, yes and no. It's a weapon that became specialized that can destroy the body of an astral being in the physical world. This can be seen when Guts stabbed Slan. It destroyed her body, but did not kill him. However, now that the Astral and Physical world have merged, God Hand have all appeared, so it is now possible to kill them.

I can't properly predict who he is or how he would contribute to the story, so I didn't talk about him. I'm sure that Moon Child will have some crucial part towards the end, but it cannot be predicted.

Meh, the idea of evil will be slain by griffith AND guts to let the idea of hope, aka the moonlight child that is born through magic influence as both guts and griffith's child (hence he can go from material to astral during moonlight), he is the natural link between the world, a NATIVE, unlike seemingly other character. It's anime of course hope, that will explain the move from medieval to modern world as a fusion of both griffith and guts aspiration, a world where no king rules (seemingly), ie teh world of griffith without the traiing wheel of the astral world (and none of the monster).

I think they would have a big showdown, a war between Guts' side i.e. humans, elves, witches,... and Griffith's side i.e. monsters, apostles,... I don't think Guts and Griffith will work together again, Griffith already went overboard when he raped Casca.
P/s: my opinion still stands because whenever I see moonlight boy, I can't see Griffith in him.

Caska leading would be, probably the best, most long awaited payback I have seen.
Not to mention, women are often made weak and lesser than men in berserk. Casca couldn't even hold on for a single year. If she were to be brought back, and led the army against Griffith, and won. That would be pretty great.

You can't seriously believe that, right? Schierke is, after Guts, the most powerful member of the current group. Casca was always the third strongest in the old Band of the Hawk. Flora was an incredibly powerful mage and Skull Knight's equal.

I don't know what to tell you besides you're reading way, WAY too into everything. Berserk, compared to most manga/movies/shows has one of the best and most competent cast of female characters.

As someone else commented his assistants will continue his work in his stead so that the manga may reach a conclusion as Miura more or else intended. Wether his assitants will be able to maintain his level of deep writing and substance we can all agree it at least will have a conclusion that he always intended to make from the moment he started writing and drawing it. May he forever be remembered for writing one of the if not THE best manga of all time.

Great video. Absolutely loved all your idea's and theories. There were two points however, that I believe you forgot to mention (or maybe you left them out because you viewed them as inconsequential).
First: One of the main influences of Berserk, is Shakespeare's "Macbeth". As such, there are a few similarities between the two stories that stand out. Macbeth could only be killed by one who is not of woman born. In the story this turned out to be Macduff who was, "ripped untimely from my mothers womb". While not exactly the same, Guts was born in a similar manner. Being born from his mothers corpse, one could argue that Guts is not "woman born". Another similarity would be the state of the world (or Scotland). After Macbeth becomes King, the narrative of the story describes the land as "troubled", or even "sickly". This parallels your idea with the world being warped by the astral plain after Griffith ascends the throne.
There are more but I'm gonna skip ahead for time.
Second: The Dragonslayer. Guts' truest companion. I forgot where, but at some point in Berserk there's some mention of how the Dragonslayer has changed since Guts began his journey. After being bathed in the blood of a thousand demons, the Dragonslayer now exists in both the Physical AND Astral Realms. This means that the Dragonslayer is one of the very few (if not the ONLY) weapons that could possibly slay a member of the Astral Realm. Dare I say, a member of the Godhand.
I believe Guts will strike down and Kill both Griffith, and the Idea of Evil. The cycle would begin again, but this time no Idea of Evil and no Godhand. Mankind would be responsible for it's own actions. It would be as Flora stated, "It is not a cycle, but a Spiral". The same things happen, but in different ways, and for different reasons.

I've read MacBeth, and I do agree that there are some similarities to Berserk in the story, but they're not concrete enough to form coherent theorizes that will predict future events. It's just hard to know where influence starts and original thought ends, and if there's a direct influence unless obvious. Like the Bosch paintings.
As for the DragonSlayer, I didn't really talk about it because it's a rather obvious point that it's a specialized weapon that can destroy Astral beings, including the God Hand Members. The issue, of course, is whether Guts can actually hit any of them with it. But I am pretty confident that Guts will kill all the God Hand members before killing Griffith.
I purposefully gave two ending because some people are not that optimistic about Guts' chances. Will he break the chain of causality or will it continue as it once had with Skull Knight and Void? Dude amazing analysis, great stuff, subscribed. One thing you may be forgetting, the moon boy... Perhaps moon boy will be what destroys the 'moon' (idea of evil). Evil controls humans, moon boy is similar to a nephalim, half angel (griffith), half demon (guts), half human (casca). A key feature of Nephalims is that they aren't bound by fate aka causality, causality is controlled by idea of evil. Moon boy will be immune to evils control. Maybe moon boy is the one wildcard factor thats never been present in a cycle, moon boy is an anomaly.
Moon boy could also be the vessel to get guts to the idea world, moon boy being a new idea yet to form. Maybe the idea of innocence or love.
I purposefully did not talk about the Moon Child because there isn't enough information to properly make a prediction. I'm sure he will have a key part in future events, but what that role will be is impossible to foresee.
About the whole people need to remember that the most famous arc of Berserk which is The Golden age was NOT dark, it was your régular middle age kind of story.

You even mentioned the "remote" possibility that he will become astral trhough the use of the behelit he possesses and I think he will DEFINETELY come to a point when the god hand will reach out to him in order to turn him into the true hawk of darkness and the true breaking of the cycle will be when he refuses to sit idle while his new comrades die, that moment when he kills "the idea of evil" aka god is most likely how it will all end

Yeah, nah, I don't think Guts would ever use the Behelit. He has to remain human the entire time. The manga has a dualistic theme of humanity versus monster, good versus evil. Guts using the Behelit is simply people having little faith in Guts in the end. The Behelit will likely remain there as a possible temptation to make Guts suffer. And remember, Guts can *never* take the easy way out. He has to always suffer more!
I do absolutely agree with you that, in the end, as Guts keeps using the Berserk Armor, he will no longer be able to walk or do anything. I personally always imagined it as Casca whispers to Guts that she needs him to destroys some fantasy monsters, he gets up, limply, destroys it and then falls apart. That would be so tragic, even more so if Guts refuses to sacrifice anyone because he cares about them. (reversal of Griffith, get it? Hehe)
Well yeah, we mostly agree so I just want to clarify my statement: I said guts will use the behelit like tortured griffith did, without even managing to move and maybe wanting to kill himself as soon as he realizes what is going on, but of course he wouldnt sacrifice anyone, or at least that´s what we think

Thank you! At least as far as the prophecy goes, I'm glad someone has thought back to it more recently. As soon as that white streak in his hair appeared, I've considered the possibility that Guts is a part of that, or even his own prophecy. Whether the old prophecy of a white hawk has yet to be concluded or Guts is simply tracing a similar path (one of actual goodness, not a deceitful godhand reincarnation). Well, either way, I hope to see a true transformation in Guts as a symbol of peace, resembling a white hawk, ironically as he ends Griffith, or something greater. Whatever I see will most likely surprise me in the best of ways however it ends.

Well, the reason being ''cool'' is only part of it. I do think it's a funny twist by having an anti-Christ figure (most God Hand members are this) be a Christ like figure in a biblical text. I was obviously not trying to smear the name of Jesus, just that perhaps there were parallels with Void being a man of faith that cultivated a small cult, criticized the most powerful man of the land, was then tortured for it, just as Jesus, then had a resurrection.

That's rather incorrect. Berserk has anti-faith undertones, not anti religious. Miura actually has great respect for the Church as an institution of morality, but less so for people who follow the faith absolutely without any regards to their own lives. I might eventually make a video on this topic as it's something a lot of people have strongly misinterpreted from the Conviction Arc.

As much as I agree with people who don't want to see IoE back, there are too many hints within the story itself that show IoE is still an unseen presence, manipulating fate and causality. It's only that the discussion in Chapter 83 isn't canon. The allusions of causality being like a river, the the motifs of the moon moving the tides, as IoE moves the river, are too apparent to be dismissed overall.
But of course, this video's theories will only hold water as the story progresses.

When Skull Knight cut the Emperor, he started the Apocalypse. After the Eclipse, the God Hand talk about an impending Dark age. This was trigged at the moment when the Astral and Physical World merged.
It's something I hinted at 11:56 but purposefully did not explain.
The series of images shown are by Bosch. They are representatives of hell. The last image in particular is the most important at 12:12 . That image comes from a very well known painting called The Garden of Delight.

In that image, you'll notice three sections separated. The one on the left is Paradise. Calm and barely any creatures. The Garden of Eden. In the middle, the garden of the real world. It is messy, with many events happening. But on the right, it's the Apocalypse. Doomsday. Hell on Earth. You might noticed the reference in Berserk. It's at chapter 306.

After Skull Knight merged the Astral and Physical world, all the fantasy monsters started appearing one by one. Then the God Hand appeared as well. What is peculiar is that image of Ubik. If you look close enough, you'll notice him in the stomach of that walking creature. Essentially, the Skull Knight started the Apocalypse and the God Hand are ridging its coattails. That's very much the ending of Devilman; humanity unknowingly starting the Apocalypse by accident.
Because of that, the actual ending of Berserk will not be identical to Devilman, it will be something else entirely.

I’ve always felt that the twist at the climax of berserk would be that Casca would refuse to kill/fight Griffith. That in spite of her assault she couldn’t bring herself to lust for revenge the same way Guts has. Instead, she would just want to settle down with Guts at the island, and Guts would be forced to choose between two things: 1. His desire to be with Casca and be at peace, or 2. Quenching his thirst for revenge on Griffith and giving in to the demon inside of him. Guts would be torn in this decision- to leave to go after Griffith would be to sacrifice the future he always wanted, but to stay would mean that Griffith wins, he got his kingdom, he got his dream, and he was never punished for the cruelty and death of the eclipse. He never stopped to think that his two goals, being with Casca and killing Griffith, could be in opposition with each other, but he recalls what the skull knight once said “her wish may not be your wish”
There won't be an ending anymore...
We can consider this video as what the ending would have been to have a sense of closure.
