Pretty spot on, but you instruct the viewer to skip ahead if not soldering or remapping the touch pad / l3 and r3, then start the reassembly process with threading the red varnish wire with the touchpad connector. If you skip the touch pad / l3 and r3 sections, you’ll have no idea where that red varnish wire came from. ExtremeRate supplies that wire, but wasn’t sure if there was one already present in the controller that I needed to thread out in between the touch pad and the frame. Just a small detail that threw me off for a few minutes while I scrubbed back through the video to make sure I didn’t miss something.

Worked like a charm, I was a little worried about taking on soldering for the first time but it was nothing to worry about. I now have back buttons again and I'm a happy guy.
I just wanted to let y'all know that this video is perfect as far as instructing. The soldering was not nearly as scary as I was anticipating, and the kit fits flawlessly. This is truly a professional upgrade. The material of the new controller back plate and all the rest of the plastic is high quality, and the white matches the tone of white of the original controller. I have installed 3 kits, one for each of my controller, both the 010 and 020 and they all went smoothly. A tip for anyone attempting this install, BE CAREFUL when connecting the strips into the little slots, if you push to hard, you can break both the male end on the strip, and the female piece that it slides into. I messed up one of all of this and ended up having to un solder and re do it with a new strip. Now I have a spare parts kit, but just be careful and gentle!
Bought a front shell and the 2.0 metal kit and installed it today and these videos you make for them are godsend. Thank you for providing these. Made things go as smoothly as I could get it done and had no issues on the first try.

This is an absolute gamechanger for around 40€. Just got my ps5 today, ordered this kit a few days earlier and it works just fine and is very comfortable. The grippy back shell is nice too. And u can always go back to the default controller without having any screw holes or whatever. Keep it up!

This is a beautifully made video, super-clear, great work! I would only add that if someone doesn't know which way screws loosen then it might be a bit advanced for them.
So careful when “skipping” through. After the remapping touch and L3/R3 there is literally no mention of what to do with the black cable that goes on the back of the battery until you have to start plugging in the other cables. There is a good chance you’ll put the whole thing together to go, “well what the heck, I can’t program anything or connect this.” Then you realize everything explaining that part is in the stuff you’re told to skip.
That is _exactly_ what happened to me, man. I was so pissed. Had to go back n undo everything fix that, put it all back together a second time around. I REEEEAAAALLLLYY_ wish I had looked through the comment section here first. Would’ve been a massive pitfall avoided. Oh well. I’m just super stoked it all works.
Just installed mine in a BDM-020 and works flawlessly. Only trouble I had was I hadn’t fully seated the ribbon cable into the pcb with the switches on, so I was able to program, but k1 and k2 didn’t do anything in game. Took off the back of the “switch box” undid the 2 screws, reseated the cable, closed it back up and that fixed it. It was entirely my error and an easy fix. I didn’t use the trackpad or R3 L3 optional parts, because I only wanted this for jump (X) and crouch (O). Will probably get another kit for my 2nd controller now. A paper or pdf manual may have helped, but only because my screen kept going to sleep when I paused the video, but instructions were clear and the time stamps are greatly appreciated.

I normally never comment under videos but for this i just have to say THANK YOU! This is the best solution on the market, i mean the kit costs only €40 and everything is included. With this step by step guide it is nearly idiot-proof. Also the quality of buttons and the backshell is top, the ps5 controller quality is great anyway and with your back button kit there is absolutly no difference. My Ps5 AimController feels like trash compared to my now modded ExtremeRate Controller. Keep up your great job!

Harder than the Dual shock installation and I still prefer that controller to the dual sense, but this worked well. I think the metal buttons are important as they're more durable.
@@Shinobi3354 Once you make the change you'll wish you done it sooner. The Dualshock just feels so cheap now, like really light and just nasty. Not sure if it's just the old design or what! But I love the Dualsense now
So technically you do not need to cut the ribbon at all. Just use what ends you need and put electrical tape on the other ends. Just in case you need to reuse the kit for another controller model.
If I only want to have X and O on my back paddles what steps can I skip? I took apart my P5 controller, but I am confused which step do I start from after that?
Apparently when you install it correctly you'll be able to hold down the button on the back until the device's light turns red. Then you can press X, and a paddle then I and a paddle. That being said I didn't install mine correctly lol that's just what I found

Installed as of Dec 22, 2021. Works great and feels better than expected. Much better design than janky paddles sticking out like in most 3rd party controllers. I did not solder anything as I didn't want to have the touchpad or L3/R3 configured to the remap board. Will edit if I run into any issues later. My only request is that you guys design a charging dock for a single or dual controllers that have the remap board installed as the original Sony dock is not compatible.

Alright, so I just added these to my Dual Sense and let me tell you why you should not be scared of this job and just get them already. Ever since I started using backbuttons on the Dual Shock 4 there was no going back. I won't say much else about that because you're here most likely because you use backbuttons too. I map my sticks to them sometimes, usually one depending on the games default settings so soldering was not optional for me. I've never taken apart any electronics that I can think of and never soldered or welded anything before. With that in mind, I'll say that the hardest part of the entire process was pushing some of the ribbon connectors into their ports. I picked up a 5 dollar soldering iron and a 5 dollar roll of Rosin Core Solder. That's the wire that he's touching the board with and melting with the iron. The iron has one setting and its plugged in = on, unplugged = off. For people asking about what heat setting, I have no idea what it was. All I know is it melted that metal wire and fused the connections. When I finished I powered it up and it worked flawlessly and is very, very comfortable in my hands. The rubber backing is a nice bonus too. The thing that I was most impressed with was how easy and fast it is to program. If you've used Sonys Backbutton attachment for the DS4 just trust me that this is way way better, even with no ability to map multiple profiles. Take your time and don't rush, if something wont budge, stop, look at it and hold the guts of your controller from another angle and take your time. Before I discovered these I was seriously tempted to buy the Scuf Reflex because, well it's just a badass controller. But it's not Christmas and I cant justify dropping 300 on a pro controller in the middle of summer when theres so much else I'd rather spend my money on. My only complaint is that the remap button which is metal against a metal housing kinda just floats there against the button on the board underneath. When I finished I though I left a random loose screw inside then I realized it was the remap button. I'm gonna take it out and give it a few coats of Plasti Dip, I think that'll take care of that. A lot of people are hesitant about the soldering aspect for full remap functionality. I'm telling you, seriously it's nothing. And you can easily undo it if you get another controller and want to transfer this awesome device over to it. GGz
Just a heads up @38:30 they say that "if you arent remapping L3 and R3, you can skip the plug process. DONT SKIP THIS and plug the cables in anyway. I was trying to figure out what was wrong for an hour after I finished and just tried it cause I was running out of ideas. Their directions on this are wrong. If you go ahead and skip the step you wont get any power to the red little motherboard that handles all the remapping.

Hello. My controller still charges with USB C cable, but it no longer turns on my PS5 using the PS5 wake up mode button. Any ideas what could have happened? I’ve taken it apart to see if I missed a step but nothing?
I did everything right in the video, but when I try to go map the buttons, the light flashes quickly as opposed to slowly, but if I try again it blinks slowly but my buttons still aren't mapped
I followed the steps and the paddles work in my ps5 menu but when I launch a game I’m unable to click any buttons it’s as if my controller is unresponsive when I go into a game but I can still click the ps button then in the menu all the buttons work
UPDATE: 20-30 Min Install with Soldering L3 / R3 / Touchpad. All functions work great! HAPPY HAPPY. ORIGINAL POST: About to do my BDM-020. Going to solder the L3 / R3 + Touchpad just because why not? Also, adding this makes the controller resale value SKY ROCKET lol. I see some going for $175 - $200 WITHOUT the L3 / R3 soldered on. Also a good time to clean the controller inside and out as I've had mine for a few months now and it was pretty dirty. Amazon package 5 stops away, wish me luck! :)

I did the installation step by step except for the touch pad part and then I tried to set the paddles to the buttons I wanted but it didn’t work. I did hold the button on the paddles until the light turned on and then pressed the paddle and button that I wanted to configure until the light blinked three times then press the back button to turn of the lights and tried using the paddles but it didn’t work. Any ideas why it isn’t working? Did I mess up the installation?

@@yurpcrusher123 If you got in touch with them they'd have sent you the newer plastic paddles, v3 is the newest so wouldn't snap. Drift is a horrible. Did you see they've released a video showing you how to kind of fix it with the drift adjusters

Got the V2 installed. I can't get the back buttons to pair. The light comes on and blinks as expected, but will not remap. Also my controller buttons work on the PS5 menu, but not in game. Any ideas?

Hi! The question is what could happen when I connect the cable from the kit to the side of the cross, the gamepad does not turn on. I disconnect it from the board and everything starts working. I assembled everything according to the instructions, version 020

Based on the info you show with the product listing. My controller info showed that I have a BDM 020, so I bought a kit & after opening it up. It is a BDM-030. Is there anything that can be done? I'd rather not return it. If I don't need to.

I have a b20 but a newer version it seems like. I couldn't take the touchpad cable since it was soldered in but with enough attention I soldered the red cable
To me it looks like the video is based on the bdm-010. The bdm-020 touch pad has 1 screw and you have to lift up on the screw side and slide the inner assembly to access the board. This video doesn’t have the same touch pad board either. Your video needs to be edited with pictures showing the differences in the old controller and new.
Worst thing I’ve ever bout idk if mines is faulty but at 33:11 when i try to align the connection points they don’t align the extreme rate part is to small for the controller part

I think the Dualsense is much easier to add the kit to, I've done loads of both Shock and Sense. The more you use the Sense you'll love it

Ever since I started using backbuttons on the Dual Shock 4 there was no going back. I won't say much else about that because you're here most likely because you use backbuttons too. I map my sticks to them sometimes, usually one depending on the games default settings so soldering was not optional for me. I've never taken apart any electronics that I can think of and never soldered or welded anything before. With that in mind, I'll say that the hardest part of the entire process was pushing some of the ribbon connectors into their ports. I picked up a 5 dollar soldering iron and a 5 dollar roll of Rosin Core Solder. That's the wire that he's touching the board with and melting with the iron. The iron has one setting and its plugged in = on, unplugged = off. For people asking about what heat setting, I have no idea what it was. All I know is it melted that metal wire and fused the connections. When I finished I powered it up and it worked flawlessly and is very, very comfortable in my hands. The rubber backing is a nice bonus too. The thing that I was most impressed with was how easy and fast it is to program. If you've used Sonys Backbutton attachment for the DS4 just trust me that this is way way better, even with no ability to map multiple profiles. Take your time and don't rush, if something wont budge, stop, look at it and hold the guts of your controller from another angle and take your time. Before I discovered these I was seriously tempted to buy the Scuf Reflex because, well it's just a badass controller. But it's not Christmas and I cant justify dropping 300 on a pro controller in the middle of summer when theres so much else I'd rather spend my money on. My only complaint is that the remap button which is metal against a metal housing kinda just floats there against the button on the board underneath. When I finished I though I left a random loose screw inside then I realized it was the remap button. I'm gonna take it out and give it a few coats of Plasti Dip, I think that'll take care of that. A lot of people are hesitant about the soldering aspect for full remap functionality. I'm telling you, seriously it's nothing. And you can easily undo it if you get another controller and want to transfer this awesome device over to it. GGz
Just a heads up @38:30 they say that "if you arent remapping L3 and R3, you can skip the plug process. DONT SKIP THIS and plug the cables in anyway. I was trying to figure out what was wrong for an hour after I finished and just tried it cause I was running out of ideas. Their directions on this are wrong. If you go ahead and skip the step you wont get any power to the red little motherboard that handles all the remapping.

I heard that a 4-back-button version will be released in 2021 or someday early in 2022.

Hello. My controller still charges with USB C cable, but it no longer turns on my PS5 using the PS5 wake up mode button. Any ideas what could have happened? I’ve taken it apart to see if I missed a step but nothing?

I did everything right in the video, but when I try to go map the buttons, the light flashes quickly as opposed to slowly, but if I try again it blinks slowly but my buttons still aren't mapped
I followed the steps and the paddles work in my ps5 menu but when I launch a game I’m unable to click any buttons it’s as if my controller is unresponsive when I go into a game but I can still click the ps button then in the menu all the buttons work

If you don’t want the touch pad mapped to the back buttons then you don’t need that step so you don’t have to solder

I tried it. Both Mods work perfectly. Required a little more cable management since there is not much room.
Glad I bought not knowing I had to solder, shame has quality reviews. Will have to wait until sony does something if ever they do
UPDATE: 20-30 Min Install with Soldering L3 / R3 / Touchpad. All functions work great! HAPPY HAPPY.
ORIGINAL POST: About to do my BDM-020. Going to solder the L3 / R3 + Touchpad just because why not? Also, adding this makes the controller resale value SKY ROCKET lol. I see some going for $175 - $200 WITHOUT the L3 / R3 soldered on. Also a good time to clean the controller inside and out as I've had mine for a few months now and it was pretty dirty. Amazon package 5 stops away, wish me luck! :)

I did the installation step by step except for the touch pad part and then I tried to set the paddles to the buttons I wanted but it didn’t work. I did hold the button on the paddles until the light turned on and then pressed the paddle and button that I wanted to configure until the light blinked three times then press the back button to turn of the lights and tried using the paddles but it didn’t work. Any ideas why it isn’t working? Did I mess up the installation?

You'll just need the right ribbons, did you cut them? Or did you get the original black ones

Drift is a horrible. Did you see they've released a video showing you how to kind of fix it with the drift adjusters

Mine was missing a silver screw for the paddle motherboard holder. Unfortunate, but still made it work with three screws

@@Tonyy9O Yeah, there's another video where they mention setting the iron to 350 C. I went a bit lower at 650 F which is what I normally use for guitar electronics.
Eventually i tried myself at 300°C and it went all good thank you so much anyway!

Hi! The question is what could happen when I connect the cable from the kit to the side of the cross, the gamepad does not turn on.
I disconnect it from the board and everything starts working. I assembled everything according to the instructions, version 020
just installed & red light for remapping wont come on, did no soldering so not sure what it is. even took apart & made sure cables were in twice, still no luck
so if you dolt solder do you lose the r3 l3 and touch pad? or is it just cant be mapped to the back buttons
No L3 and R3 work as usual. I've had so many questions about that on my channel. I'd say 99% of my subscribers don't need L3 or R3 on the back buttons, so I never show soldering

My controller is the 020 model but it looks different on the inside. The connector strip ribbon replacer slot is much smaller and it does not fit.

Based on the info you show with the product listing. My controller info showed that I have a BDM 020, so I bought a kit & after opening it up. It is a BDM-030. Is there anything that can be done? I'd rather not return it. If I don't need to.

It's not the grips, it's the rubber on the bottom shell. We will sell this rubberized bottom shell individually in the near future

To me it looks like the video is based on the bdm-010. The bdm-020 touch pad has 1 screw and you have to lift up on the screw side and slide the inner assembly to access the board. This video doesn’t have the same touch pad board either. Your video needs to be edited with pictures showing the differences in the old controller and new.
Mapping buttons won’t work. Light comes on and flashes but they don’t seem to register

I have tried this many of times. With brand new controllers. My controller won’t turn on every time and I don’t know why.

You don't, that's only for L3 and R3. Fit the kit as normal if you just want X and O, no need to solder at all 😁
