Yul Brynner presents the Oscar® for Foreign Language Film to France for "Day for Night" at the 46th Academy Awards® in 1974. Accepted by François Truffaut.
He's such a brilliant actor too, I had indeed heard his name as a famous director, but after watching Close Encounters, when I was going through the cast, I was dumbstruck... He was so good an actor, I could never have figured out he was François Truffaut on my own...
I was waiting for his speech which was a delight surprise full of humour and witt. Great director and human being. Thank you for this beautiful memory of him.
The sad thing is that the guy say the name of the country and not the name of the director, it's ironic because Truffaut is all about the auteur theory.
Wonderful man and director and gone too soon. That part in Close Encounters when he’s interviewing Richard Dreyfuss using an interpreter was not acting. He actually had difficulty speaking English in real life and directing Fahrenheit 451 was a challenge.
Et malgré votre accent monsieur Truffaut, vous parlez mieux que moi anglais, mon dieu, vous me faites rêver! La façon dont il parle anglais, c'est drôle. Et la personne est émouvante.
The blond man who almost lost one eye for walking up right below Truffaut's elbow was a total doll!! BTW, I always thought Americans were a bit too much heavy-handed in their impersonations of the French until I heard this...
Truffaut is vigourously hugged by Valentina Cortese who, due to some weird rule, would be nominated for the best supporting actress award the following year, for her performance in the very same movie.
Not only was he a great director, but a wonderful, intelligent and considerate human being. A true loss.

One of the best directors ever, easily.
Sadly, Truffaut left us far too soon. What a great artist!
I miss him so much. Wish he was still with us.....sigh.
He's adorable. I love him.
"I think this price is yours, ....but if you're agree, i will keep it for you, all right?"

Not only Mr. Truffaut is wonderfull, but watching Yul Brynner in there too is simply amazing. Legends!
His English even sounds like Jean Pierre Leaud's.
"Day for Night" change my nights in days.
fbdm75 great comment!
00:44 Valentina Cortese is hugging François Truffaut. Miss Cortese would be nominated one year later, because this movie was released in USA in 1974.
And should have won.
"Aïe ame verrie appie, because euh, because ouaille"
François, vous me faîtes rêver.
Such a deserved Oscar. Brilliant movie.
I was waiting for his speech which was a delight surprise full of humour and witt. Great director and human being. Thank you for this beautiful memory of him.
He seems polite and humble. I love him even more now.
I miss him too.
Only 8,579 views…. that's a crime..
this is so precious
François, great talent, Yul, I love you.
The best of the best..!!
Such a great movie. This and Jules and Jim and The 400 Blows are some of the best french New Wave films.
The sad thing is that the guy say the name of the country and not the name of the director, it's ironic because Truffaut is all about the auteur theory.
Un de mes Truffaut préféré ! Film immense et réalisateur légendaire. Merci François !
Son accent mon dieu, je suis mort de rire ! Je trouve ça drôle et émouvant. François Truffaut est vraiment l'un des plus grands cinéastes français.
A wonderful masterpiece!

Et j’espère que un documentaire en français pourrait gagner un Oscar
Grande regista per genialità, bravura e sensibilità!
I was just looking for this the other day. Died far too young.
The blond man who almost lost one eye for walking up right below Truffaut's elbow was a total doll!!
BTW, I always thought Americans were a bit too much heavy-handed in their impersonations of the French until I heard this...
Fantastic movie ❤
François Truffaut était génial dans tous les domaines du cinéma!
I love this picture, its score is AMAZING!!!
Monsieur Truffaut:Merci¡¡
Truffaut is vigourously hugged by Valentina Cortese who, due to some weird rule, would be nominated for the best supporting actress award the following year, for her performance in the very same movie.
And Ingrid Bergman who won for Murder On the Orient Express said Valentina deserved it.
"Turkish Delight" - Rutger Hauer's film debut.

You have good taste!
Красавчик
When there were countries that no longer exist
So if a film were made in America in Spanish, would it have been in the Best Foreign Language category??? ("Ola Amigo, America")
"LA NOCHE AMERICANA"
A hugely overrated film from a hugely overrated director.
Godard >>>>>>>>
Turks Fruit should've won..
