    He was a good man. Like everyone, he battled his demons. But, nobody could question his heart. Only a few times in human history has there been a man like Elvis.

      I agree about these people that judge the KING. I guess they're perfect and have no faults! We all have our faults! The difference is that anyone that's famous has no privacy even in death! Elvis got me through a lot of low ,sad , times and he still does! I hope he knew how much his fans adored him !

    Quality song with very hard hitting words. His manager colonel Tom Parker wasn't keen on him recording the song he didn't think it was the sort of songs he should sing but Elvis overruled him.
    I think one of the things why Elvis appealed to so many people was he never forgot where he came from.

      Shawn mail and Mel great job on Elvis Mac Davis wrote that song for Elvis so it's not a covered song I sent original Elvis and Mac Davis wrote three other songs for Elvis memories from the 68 Comeback Special A Little Less Talk and a little more action of Lee something like that little less conversation little more action and don't cry Daddy I believe those are the songs that male Davis wrote Mac Davis sorry about for Elvis so he does have original songs a lot of people's talks about how many songs he covered he said on an interview that it's hard to find original material because because such so much competition out there between songwriters and singers but he did have his own stuff but those songs that he did Cover he made even greater than the sum of the original once and for example Bridge Over Troubled Waters Garfunkel and Simon said they couldn't have done any better than Elvis done Neil Diamond Sweet Caroline I don't know what his opinion is on that but I'm sure it was alright BJ Thomas's song said he covered I'll have to think about that one too and look it up I'm getting old so I know BJ Thomas had a few hits but Elvis covered one of them AKA Elvis junkie I'll come up with a big BJ Thomas song later for a request

      , Shawn and Mel the ladies in the background are called The Sweet Inspirations at one point in time Cissy Houston saying with the Sweet Inspirations but it has she had to go back home and take care of the children the mother Whitney Houston the gospel group that sings with them is JD Sumner and the stamps and I can name you all the main players James Burton on guitar bill John Wilkerson own rhythm guitar Jerry scheff bass guitar and nobody but Ronnie Tutt on drums who knew when to hit the drums when Elvis was going to move a hip do a karate move shake that leg I shake all over he could play those drums he said playing drums for Elvis was like playing drums for a stripper he had TVs down by his drum set so we had a view of Elvis at all times and wouldn't miss even when he threw his arm around you know when he was through his thing and I hate those arms back there was always a drum head hit for each move Elvis was like the conductor himself with his body to the orchestra his main musicians and it's back up singers they all knew what to do when to do by the moves of Elvis they were always coordinated perfectly very few times I'm sure there were any mistakes AKA Elvis Junkie

I love the respect you show to my guy, regular people will never understand what Elvis means to us and I'm so happy you guys are discovering not only the legend but also the great man he really was. Elvis was trying to tell a story, a story that still continues to this day, he was under pressure not to perform this song because it could be viewed as controversial. This was one of those songs that Elvis never did again for a very good reason. He was deeply and truly moved by the message he was telling, he never wanted a song like this to become part of the routine. In the Ghetto, just like If I can dream were magical performances, performances that Elvis vowed he would never do again because of how close they were to his heart. This song touched Elvis deeply and he never did it again because it had become sacred in his heart.

      @mikem957 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @JD Ronin Actually he and I were right. Instead of acting like a clueless dickhead you should do your own research. Mac Davis who was there, has gone on record stating that Parker tried to get Vernon to talk Elvis out of doing it. George Klein also confirmed it. Elvis told Parker that he was gonna do it whether he liked it or not. Parker pouted and left the studio.

      @Point Dexter Elvis had many gifts and talents as an actor and singer Colonel Parker misused and squandered Elvis's talents and took him from his roots Elvis will always be at his best 50s and early 60s that's when Elvis actually got to be Elvis Elvis at his best but he did have some great moments later on in his career 68 bro 70 in the ghetto is a classic song and performance no telling what Elvis would have done with the right manager who utilize all his talents properly Colonel Parker was a loser thank you👍🏼✌🏼

    A great song he didn't have to sing this song but it meant a lot to him he felt it needed to be said those words he was amazing he sang it at such a timd when it was needed regardless of the fact his manager Parker didn't want him to sing it he chose to ignore him and sung it anyway Elvis was just amazing thank you stay safe 😷✌💖

  • @larrywt656
    @larrywt656 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It's interesting to note that the alternate title of this song was The Vicious Cycle. Elvis' friend singer/songwriter Mac Davis wrote this song for him, but his manager Tom Parker didn't want him to record it because it was too controversial. Luckily, this was one of the few times that Elvis outright ignored Parker and recorded it anyway. This appeared on his masterpiece 1969 album From Elvis In Memphis (every song on that record is top-notch) and the single of the song reached #3 on the US charts, a major hit.

Some day they may realize how great of a man he was. Al lot of his songs have a message behind then. This s a powerful song. It has a message as relevant today as it was back then when the song was recorded. A great message song and big hit for Elvis. You are right what you said in your heartfelt reaction. Yes, Elvis was dirt poor as a child growing up. Elvis represents the ultimate rags to riches story. From poverty to the biggest entertainer in show business history. Elvis is still the most influential and most important artist in music. In fact, Elvis did record the song Rags To Riches in the 1970's..

    "In the Ghetto" was written by the late, great Mac Davis. Elvis's manager didn't want him to record it because it was controversial and spoke about social problems. He was afraid it wouldn't be a hit and that people would hate it. But they didn't. It was an enormous hit. A timeless song that still rings true today. Elvis was born dirt poor in the South and he could understand the hopelessness that creeps into people who live under those circumstances. This one touches me every time I hear it.

    Sean and Mel, is the first time I've come across your channel and I can't believe I haven't seen you before 😁 and you get it! You get the songs story. For the end of the 68 comeback special Elvis wanted to make a statement about the shape our country was in. At first everybody thought he was talking about Vietnam, he quickly corrected that and said no man here right here in our country.. Mac Davis a performer in his own right, wrote the song and it was given to Elvis. After he read it he said this is it man this is what the hell I'm talking about! Unfortunately, for years people made fun of it, not knowing or not realizing that Elvis grew up butt ass poor, and that he genuinely cared about people in need and he loved helping 😉

    The cycle needs to be broken..Unfortunately being poor is hard, i may not live "In the Ghetto" , its a mixed area of middle to poor..but ive been dirt poor for 35 years, a single Mom of 3, and i lost my son Anthony 3 1/2 years ago due to being poor..He slept in a moldy basement and died from 6 different forms of bacteria in his lungs.. The guilt is overwhelming at times. I still cry every day, its probably why i listen to this song so often..Thanks for the do-over..

    It hurt him that poor people, based on his own experience, sometimes have no choice when it comes to getting food for the family. It's been that way since before Biblical times. This song was written by Mack Davis, a singer, songwriter beginning in the 1960's. He wrote this after losing a friend this way. We love y'all and know how good your hearts are. ❤❤🙏🙏

    Elvis grew up in a Tupelo, Mississippi ghetto; Dad, Vern, was in jail for bad checks. He sang in church...Gospel was his first love...he sang "That's All Right, Mama" in 1954, when a teenager for his Mother's birthday, at Sun Records. He was a Spec 4 in the Army, got out in 2 years. Released "Heartbreak Hotel" in 1956 to a massive amount of controversy from religious groups because of his movements. He made a string of musical romance movies, that he didn't want to do. Finally got a decent script for "King Creole", his only b&w movie. He just wanted to make music. His singing career took a dip when his wife left him, and the Beatles arrived, his "Comeback Tour" helped immensely. When he sang "In the Ghetto", which his manager thought would kill his career, he fought to sing it, (it was written by Mac Davis) and here we are...as relevent, and often played, today as it was in 1969, when it was released. His backup singers were The Sweet Inspirations, which included Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney Houston. Thank you for your great reaction.

    😭😭😭 Powerful performance by Elvis. This song is still so relevant today. For Elvis to sing this song in those days was a big deal because a lot of artists were too afraid to speak up.
    Singers back then were so afraid to touch on this subject. I went to college with Bobby Mcferrin's sister Brenda who use to be a background singer for Elvis. She said that they would tell him that he couldn't have black backup singers on stage with him and Elvis would tell them that if they couldn't sing that he would refuse to perform. She also said that he was such a sweet man. 🤧 I am Italian/Spanish and the stories my grandparents would tell me about how they would get discriminated back in those days would shock me and made me sad.
    Apparently anyone with a Latin last name or a foreigner sometimes would get kicked out of restaurants. So sad... Racism is disgusting and evil. I don't understand how a racist person thinks they will get to heaven when they die.. God said to love your neighbor as yourself.. I truly pray that this country will evolve and we can someday move past all this ignorance. R.I.P Elvis Presley..
