Garmin Body Battery on a Fenix 6X - Does it WORK?

  • My new Garmin Fenix 6X has Body Battery. But does it REALLY know how you are doing???
It claims to measure stress on your body accross the day and let you see where to rest and where to train. I put it to the test, to see if it really can do what it claims, after running a Spartan obstacle course race!

Just started watching your channel any enjoying it, thanks.
I'd mostly been using the resting heart rate on my forerunner as an indicator of fatigue, but I'm now going to give the Garmin body battery another try.

Another excellent clip Mark, just bought myself the same watch (you're still costing me a fortune!) and your reviews and instructions are far clearer than every other youtube vid I've watched. I'm an older lad and have been using Whoop for about a year, I have a long history of overtraining and getting ill and this has helped. Love to hear your thoughts if you ever got one. Cheers Rick

Great info great video.... Thank you very much..... getting my 6X Sapphire next weekend and looking forward to it. This will be an upgrade from Fenix 3 Sapphire bought November 2015. Works fine except for the battery which needs a charge every 4 or 5 days now. I can definitely vouch for the toughness of the Sapphire screen. Will be nice to finally have resting heart rate data etc. Take care and again awesome work here.

Great video, Mark! I've had my Garmin F6X Sapp for a week or so and like you, delighted. This is a great explanation of something that appears to work. I was struggling how to use the data and the video has given me a bit a nudge in the right direction.
I additionally use the Whoop and monitor HRV via HRV4TRAINING and although the Fenix isn't given exactly the same data, it's moving in a very similar trend, which is encouraging.
I'm hopeful that I can drop the subscription for Whoop if Garmin keep giving quantifiable data and to think the Garmin software, for now, is free! 👍

Yes finally someone is looking at the things that are important on that watch.
However since 1 week I have the Fenix6Xsaphire but one thing kills me...sleep tracking on the FENIX3hr (and the apple watch series 4)always given me deep sleep 1,5-3 hours. The Fenix6Xsaphire how ever gives me around 10-30 minutes. You had the same issue?
Battery body levels seem ok...from point of feeling however the sleep isn’t what I expected. Greetings from Germany stay safe and healthy

Great review...seriously thinking of upgrading my Apple Watch series 3 to the Fenix 6 or 6X. Watched a few reviews that mentioned body battery in passing but not in this much detail. I think this would benefit me as I sometimes workout (running) thinking I’ve recovered from my previous run only to feel completely drained a few days after. The more I look into this watch the more features I like 👍

Ste Lloyd get the garmin, don’t be foolish like I was. I had the Apple Watch 4 and found a fenix 5x on the marketplace for a great price and sold my Apple Watch and bought that. Great watch and did everything I needed it to. But after a while I fell into peer pressure and thought I missed the Apple Watch. I sold the fenix 5x and found a used Apple Watch. As soon as I put it on I immediately regretted the decision to get the watch again. That being said I gave the Apple Watch to my wife to replace her series 1 and I am going to get the fenix 6x. Don’t fall into apples gimmicks. If you want toughness and fitness capabilities go with garmin. If you want to be able to talk to text to reply to a message get Apple but tbh when are we not really having our phone in our hands to be able to reply anyway right?! Ps the sapphire is ridiculously mark resistant. I do HVAC and hit it on a lot of metal motors. Not a mark.

The stress depicted has to do with your body stress and not the psychological stress. Body stress occurs when you eat unhealthy food and your body has to use more energy to digest the food, resulting in stress. I also found out from the sleep scores that I sleep better when I train for an hour in the morning without eating. This results in a higher Body battery in the evening around 8 p.m.

I'm sure you know this after 3 years but in case you don't or I can help someone who reads this, you need to get one of Garmin's Solar watches (it will explicitly say in the title or name that it is solar chargeable and costs about $100 more than the standard version). Mark also probably would have said that his watch is the Solar version but he never does and he mentioned that he charges it with the cable like anything else.
