    I'm 2 year late lol. Drum sounds come a lot from the drumhead. There are drums that doesn't even have the shell (eg. Remo Roto toms). The drum shell does help though. I've heard from a lucite drums owner that with plastic shell drums can be "dead" more quickly and you'd have to replace the drum head more often. Apparently the drum shell does help shaping the sound somehow.

    Joel, just wanted to let you know I ordered the four color 3D Chameleon and emailed them that I saw it first on this show. I've had the Prusa MMU 2.0 for over 16 months and still can't get it to work. I may still try, but it will be good to finally get something to add color to my work.
    One main reason I got it is because they said I can move it to any printer. I have a CR-10 S5 that I'm hoping to put it on and go back and forth to my two MK3's.

I'm now a lot more interested... but the event is over" Next year...

    The Elite Machine Works printer sounds right up my alley! Finally, a printer that's not taking a ton of shortcuts on design.

    • @h.p.baxter8150
      @h.p.baxter8150 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well... it is still a cartesian design (bed moves in Y Axis) which is most common but already outdated at this point. Elite Machine Works is just overengineering this outdated design which makes it first of all redicilously expensive, but still keeps the inherent designflaws. CoreXY is the next step as it has many advantages. All 3d printer companies are moving to this right now. So, you still want to commit 2k to a 3d printer dinosaur?

    • @ocieward
      @ocieward 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have one of Kyle's kit printers - it is the precursor to the version he showed at ERRF. Mine has is pretty similar, but his new one has some upgrades, like the dual motors for Y, the CF rod stiffeners, and the slick CAT5 cable extruder interface. My printer works great. Super heavy and bomb proof. No resonance. You can't print super fast, due to the mass of the Y axis, but i regularly print at 80mmps and never worry about the thing breaking down. Recommended.

    • @h.p.baxter8150
      @h.p.baxter8150 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ocieward Yep, and that's the point. You print at 80mm/s, because that is the best compromise for this type of printer. Meanwhile any CoreXY prints at literally double the speed-- with same or better surface finish-- at half the machine price. I don't say this is a bad machine, it is just "outsmartet" by better concepts and thus outdated.

    • @ocieward
      @ocieward 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      H. P. Baxter yes, I agree with you that for this size of bed, coreXY is probably a better choice. But I don’t think that makes this machine obsolete. It depends on the intended use. This machine doesn’t have problems with belt stretch, so perhaps it would require less maintenance. Also, Kyle is working on a second IDEX head for this x axis, which would be very easy to implement, although the x on this one looks like it would need to be replaced with longer rails to make room for docking at each end.
      My printer kit was $1000, which was less than I paid for all my railcore parts, so for me this printer still made sense. The one he showed at ERRF is upgraded and the price he mentioned reflects that.

    • @elitemachineworks1037
      @elitemachineworks1037 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@h.p.baxter8150 Corexy has drawbacks. It is not the end all be all to printer kinematics. Belt length being a major drawback at larger print volumes. My design is proven and it works as intended. It is not over engineered for the sake of it. On the surface it is hard to see all the detail that has gone into it. The Ultimate XL reliably prints at 180mm/s with very acceptable surface finish. I'll be applying this philosophy to other designs aimed at large format printers. I'm just getting started.

    Hey Joel I'm pretty young and I got an ender 3 last year for Christmas I have has success selling things to my friends at school and I thought why not reach out some more. I realized that companies like uber are the future and that blends perfectly with the open source nature of the 3d printing community. I was thinking about making Uber for 3d printing by making a website and app similar to Uber but the consumer can purchase any model and pay to have people make them models. I was going to learn to program in c from my grandpa then teach myself Java after that. Do you think it will work all criticism is welcome. Thanks guys!!!

    Elite machine works: the design principles of something that cuts through metal applied to something that squirts plastic through the air. Not saying that I don't want one though.

    oh y splitter with a mechanical switch! not much of a point for me but cool! but y splitters are a huge pain in the butt! at least 3d printed one.
    EDIT: FUCK I need one! it looks so much better! I loved the y splitter idea but it had issues which he seem to have fixed! it's so awesome!
    also for more motors you could assign one side of the x to zero and another to 1 so just be like 010 or 111 for like you know.

      @@AlbertoCotronei Hmm, I don't think so. That video link shows a printer with all filaments going directly into the nozzle. The 3DChameleon didn't do that, it had that binary tree selector system. Though, if you mean having multiple filaments going into the same nozzle - lots of nozzle do that. I wonder, was the one in Italy the first?

      @@3DPrintingNerd The system that you can see well at 2.07, is a wire channeler, 4 bowden inputs and only one goes into the hotend. This system was made for the first time in Italy by Davide Del Fiume or Immaginaecrea. www.thingiverse.com/thing:498922 . At the maker faire of Rome 2014 we presented the first printer that could print in 4 colors with 4 extruders and the channeling flow. The printer had a classic Ramps 1.4 and thanks to the firmware (derived from Marlin) Mk4duo could only use one driver for 4 motors thanks to a relay system. The following year, Prusa presented his Prusa M3 with the same system, instead we presented the first 6-color with 6-way canalizer flow and the MKR6 system a system that allowed the use of 3 engines with only one drivre, so with the Ramps 1.4 had 6 engines with two drivers. www.thingiverse.com/thing:1838995. At the Rome Maker faire in 2017 we arrived in 12 colors with an Ultratronics 4 driver for 3 engines each for a total of 12 extruders with a particular channeling flow made both in plastic and in metal to have the maximum revenue. The firmware was always MK4duo a firmware that was the first to go on processors with the Arduino DUE, only after two years Marlin with version 2.0 began to go on the Arduino DUE and other 32 bit processors. Many things about Marlin 2.0 have been taken from MK4duo, you can ask them directly if you don't ...
