  • Since test driving Tesla I had a dream of building my own electric car. In this video you can catch a summary of hundreds of hours of work starting from Open inverter board for Toyota Prius and moving on to Tesla model S Small Drive motor.

    I was wondering where the actual inverter is. You can see it for a split-second at 9:49. The hole for molex connector is visible there too.

      The inverter is under the processor board if you watch my other video on the Tesla motor play list you will find one

    Thanks for another amazing insights video. Wondering if you intend to use the Tesla motor on the Prius chassis? Any particular torque ratio considerations or frame modifications?

      I am not considering Prius at this stage. I have not started thinking about those things until I sort out batteries

    • @LatutaEV
      @LatutaEV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I actually quite like the look of a new Prius so I was considering to use Prius gen3 and modify it to look like a new one. But they hold the price quite well so more expensive than other models I am considering

      @@LatutaEV I love the prius box too, particularly like the prius 2 (I have a 2008 version). Though I also have a tesla x, I would love to see the hybrid converted electric - without expending an arm and leg for it though.

      I too would like to convert a gen 2 Prius to all EV. Maybe with an obnoxious amount of HP, like an electric muscle car? Any recommendations welcome?

    WARNING! When connecting DC power supplies like that in Series, be careful and make SURE that the (-) output connection is not connected to the frame/housing of the power supply. If it is, and you "stack" them as shown, you will be shorting the outputs to ground... from the mechanical connection of stacking them.

    • @LatutaEV
      @LatutaEV  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your advice the outputs are isolated to ensure that they don't touch the chassis of psu

    • @beforebefore
      @beforebefore 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LatutaEV I probably should have been more specific... and this wasn't really aimed at you, but at viewers. It's relatively common that some manufacturers internally connect the "-" DC output to the metal/mechanical enclosure of the power supply.

    ... how exactly did this Inverter board even work? was it an aftermarket repaired unit? 🤔

    • @LatutaEV
      @LatutaEV  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No this is an open inverter board I made myself. It's based on Damien Maguire's design. It replaced the Tesla processor board to control the rest of the inverter. If you watch my Prius inverter and gearbox series you will see a variant of that board used as well.

      @@LatutaEV I appreciate the answer, and it is really nitpicky, so sorry for that, but the exact words I was referring to was:
      "I couldn't help but admire incredible level of technology Tesla had even in 2013 when this car was built." I reacted to it because the Ebay page showed motor from a 2017 Model X.
      Again, I wasn't trying to be trolly or a negative commenter, I simply wanted to add a correction in case someone else was confused by the statement.

Thank you for your attention and for liking the video 😀. But to be pedantic the eBay title was: "Tesla Model X S 217 AWD Front Engine Drivetrain..." I guess the seller was trying to squeeze as many key words in the title as possible. He even called it an engine 😂. Sorry I AM not responsible for that one either 😭
