Penn Jillette on why he doesn’t live by the dice life ideology

“I think I like this idea too much. I don’t do anything in moderation… I never had a drink of alcohol, never any drugs, I don’t gamble. And the reason is that I tend to have the inability to do things half-a---ed. And the people that I saw… who do this, end up having to show some restraint and I don’t think I’d be able to do that. I think it’d be all-encompassing... It’s important to me that the lead character, Bobby, is moral, very moral. And that what he does fits entirely within my morality. The situation that I’m in, with a wife and two children and a business partner… there are things that I sincerely want to do that I would give the dice the choice and then act on that I believe would hurt other people… I’ve gone through a great deal of trouble to make sure that the character in the book… can’t do immoral things to people he’s made promises to.”- Penn Jillette
