    Alright, guys... This is my humble attempt at playing bass. I'm a guitarist first and foremost. So I'm a real amateur on bass. (And on guitar, too if I'm being honest). Hopefully my playing wasn't too horrid?

      Hey - thanks! Yeah, I felt like that too when I was your age. I’m still on the young side for liking this type of music. Most fans of post-punk and goth are all in their late 40’s through 50’s now. I’m glad to see the youth discover these brilliant songs.

    Glad you included CD's James McGearty's work. Very underrated bassist for being so young and playing a fretless bass. I remember being 16 in my basement trying to figure that song out.

    • @MitchQuintana

      It would’ve been wrong to not include the bass line to Romeo’s Distress in this video. It’s an awesome punchy bass line. And I agree! I didn’t know he played a fretless bass. That’s a cool fact!

      @MitchQuintana  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mrsleepykatcodm145 No, I do not… I figured it out by ear. It’s really not difficult to figure out. I did it in 30secs. Slow the video down to .5 and concentrate on each note. Don’t worry about playing the riff correctly just yet. Just find the root notes! Then, once you’ve done that-focus on the picking pattern.

      Thank you so much! Which song in particular were you interested in knowing how I got the tone for?

    • @Pogokoala
      @Pogokoala 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MitchQuintana Specimen - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Virgin Prunes - baby turns blue, Killing Joke - Love like blood, The Cure - Fascination Street and especially! Tones on Nail - Movement of Fear. That Tones on Nail literally made me drop my jaw.

    • @MitchQuintana
      @MitchQuintana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Pogokoala I got the tones for all of those songs by using Apple’s Logic Pro X amp simulators and digital effects pedals. The tones for all of those songs have the same base - a digital preset called “60’s combo” - which is basically a Ampeg bass stack preset. With each song I tweaked the knobs and settings on my bass. For “Baby Turns Blue” I added chorus as an effect. The rest are just simply my bass right into the 60’s combo bass amp preset with individualized tweaks on each song.

      @@MitchQuintana awe man! Apple?? Is there a PC version got that program?

    • @MitchQuintana
      @MitchQuintana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Pogokoala No, unfortunately… Logic Pro X is exclusive to Apple computers. There are other DAWs that work on PC, though. Pro Tools, Ableton, Cubase, Studio One, etc. There’s also guitar plugs-ins such as Guitar Rig that you could try!

    Hey do you have the bass tabs for Baby Turns Blue I don't know how to play by ear

    • @MitchQuintana
      @MitchQuintana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi,
      No, unfortunately I don’t. I figured out how to play it by ear. Don’t underestimate your ear’s ability! This song’s bass line is very easy to figure out by ear. It’s played all on the A string. Watch my fingers in the video to see what frets I’m playing. From my memory I’m playing the open A string, then the 4th & 5th fret - THEN the open A string and then the 5th & 7th frets.
      Maybe if I have some time this weekend I can type out a tab.
      Good luck!

    • @MitchQuintana
      @MitchQuintana  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! You know - I’m not sure… I’m a guitarist, so I’m not sure how to tell if they are flatwounds or not. These strings have been on my bass since I bought it several years ago - I haven’t bothered to change them because I rarely play my bass.
