Good video Earl, ruined my mums cooker and best pot and her good spoons making weights when I was wee, never made them since and can still feel the pain from getting my arse belted 😂😂😂
Great Video Earl. I've made quite a few normal leads and i have now invested in a grip lead mould and after watching your video i am ready to give it a go, thanks.
I was just about to say the exact thing David lol Thank you Earl I am making my first batch on Tuesday night when my misses has gone out 👍Got all my bits and bobs including about 12lb of good clean lead flashing 😊 You’ve inspired me mate, thank you 👍
oi oi earl not bad for first time the mould is a D C A AQUAZOOM its 150 gram 5oz tournament casting weight and you can also use round beads on the grips not just oblong mate ...and yeah your right the long tail leads are better ...in my view and they hold ground better...... happy fishing dude and tight lines
@@EarlsFishingAdventures same as above except its 6OZ THE 170 GRAM not tournament still very good leads .though mate.. i use the 5oz one for fishing 5oz plus bait is fine for my fishing
Nice! Always great when you can make something u use often, added bonus if it saves £'s. Be an added buzz when u catch your first fish with one, or you'll be super guttet when you snap off 😂
Hi there buddy Great demonstration. Thank you for sharing. Fat Fish Chaser recommended you. I am happy that he did. Good content. He has. Good fishing videos too. Keep up the good work Essex.
Hi Earl. Great video mate. Looks like your leads came out fantastic. I also make my own leads, so Just thought I'd share a couple of tips with you. I see you pushed all the crap that floats on the top of the molten lead to one side, what I do is use a spoon and do the same, then remove it from the saucepan with the spoon, that way there is no way it can accidentally block the hole of the mould as you are pouring the lead into it. I also heat the mould directly in the flame of a small DIY welding torch, I do this while it is clamped in the vice whilst the lead is still melting in the saucepan. I also heard somewhere that it can be quite dangerous to throw a lump of unmolten lead into a pan of molten lead, it could explode. This is in no way a criticism, just something I thought I'd share with you for your safety. Great videos, keep them coming. 👍👌
Chris thank you so much for all that info. I really appreciate it mate I really do . I eventuality started using a spoon but just didn't record it. The longer I was doing it the better and faster I was going . The only thing I had issues with was when the pan ran out of lead and when I put new lead in by the time the lead melted the mould would have cooled down so next time il get something to warm up the mould before pouring. Soon as the mould is hot enough your flying . It's just when you run out of melted lead
Absolutely Earl. The main thing is to get that mould nice and hot. As you quite rightly put it, once the mould is hot, you are literally flying. Tight lines mate. Enjoying your videos.👍👌🐟
I thing ebay might be your best bet . Just search up "5 oz DUMPY Roller Grip Beachcasting Beach Lead Mould for Gripper wires Weight" that should leed you in the right direction
Cool video! Question here... Since your in a cooler climate did you have to pre heat the sinker mold for the lead to properly fill it up or as long as the melting lead is hot enough it will fill the sinker mold?
Yeah i had to heat up the mold alot . Its very cold in my shed so the mold was freezing . If you pour the lead in the mold while its freezing the lead will set soon as it touches the mold which is not good. If you heat up the mold first it pours perfectly and fills up the mold. If you are quick enough you can set up the mold and pour another one while the mold is red hot from the first pour. If your doing this for the first time i suggest taking your time and when you set up the mold for another pour put it back on the heat first and take your time . Dont want any accident. Good luck
Try doing it on work bench ,less chance off spilling it all over the place and on yourself, also wear saftey glasses nothing like moulten lead in your eye ,burns like hell. Mark
Earl (and anyone thinking of doing this) You must wear a proper mask with a P3 filter. Lead fumes are highly toxic and have a cumulative effect. A stretchy piece of cloth is a waste of time.

Informative video Earl. Leads look really good, better than some of the shop ones I've bought in the past.
Thanks for sharing.
Stay safe. 👍
Cheers Ian I appreciate that
Nice one Earl , I personally would leave the last bending step until I was using the lead so as they fit in my tackle box easier . Tight lines
Yeah completely understand pal just done it for the video pal really
earl it was good to see you making your own mate but get your self a pair of safety goggles , cracking vid chap
Yeah I'm gonna get a pair for next time mate that's for watching 👍
I use a clear visor (screwfix - about £8) as it doesn't fog up and protects the full face.

With my luck snapping off would happen first lol
Nice one earl, seems the hardest part is sourcing some lead.
Yeah I need roofing mates lol
