    You need to build a brand/website! I use and recommend using Wix

    I started my 3D printing business over four years ago, in this video I review the steps that I went though to both start and grow the business.

    👀 WHO AM I ?!
    After graduating from Engineering school I pursued a quick professional football career in the Canadian Football League. I retied from the CFL after just two years to focus on business development and investing. I currently own and operate an engineering design and 3D printing company and a few other businesses that are discussed on this channel !

      Thank you !
      We generally design everything to print without supports so processing is pretty easy. Shipping is all just integrated into the different platforms we use to sell products and then we have a shipping account for sending custom orders. That stuff is the annoying but easy stuff as once you do it once it's pretty much all set up.

    Hey Austen, phenomenal video. I’m in the process of building my own here on the east coast US. Have you seen a market for SLA parts? FDM definitely and SLA is getting much cheaper. Wanted to see if you dabble in this as well.

    • @AustenHartley
      @AustenHartley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Henry ! We used to have a few SLA printers but found that it was easier to pick one type and stick with it when trying to scale the business. There is definitely still a good market for both. One of the best things to do is to find the market first and then choose what printing method will best fit that market. It can definitely change overtime but for example if there is a product you want to design and sell, if FDM is better, try that and vica versa for SLA.

    Great video Austen.....Im a veteran 3d modeler/designer and I do industrial 3D printing for a living at work......having said all that, and since I work for existing clients (mostly for industrial tooling applications)......I have no idea what to 3d print at home to sell......none whatsoever....you make it sound so easy , yet I can't find something that a home PRUSA can make that people will want , in order to make that 20-50$ a day....any tips?

    • @AustenHartley
      @AustenHartley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say just search around Etsy, Thingiverse, etc till you find a product or a niche that you like, confirm there is a market for it, design some variations / new products for that niche market and list them on etsy. I have done this a few times with great success. I go over it in more detail in the free etsy course linked in the slideshow.

      100000% mate, i tried starting without it and its impossible to actually make money, get two monitors, run a training youtube video of fushion 360, learn it and practice at the same time. Its the market leader so even if your business fizzles out you can market yourself to other employers as competent in fushion 360, or you could even just sell designs. Some times i just buy my deisgns and make minor tweaks to sell rather than wasting my own time. Its frustrating to learn but if you learn it, essentially all the others will be similar. Its kinda like Photoshop vs paint, if you can use Photoshop, you can use paint.

      To start a business and make money using SLS the customer base is different than just a standard FDM printer. If you can find the customers, you will be at an advantage as there will be less competition, but it is definitely not as mainstream !

      Fusion 360 isnt free if you are making money like you are, and if they catch you they can close your account as your in breach of their terms of service. They could even pursue costs if youve been making big money off their free product when it very clearly states its free for non commercial.
