I am proud of being a Hindu for the same reasons Tharoor expounds. I agree with Tharoor that Hinduism tells us that there are many paths to God and we have the choice to walk on any of those. I also agree that we should respect / accept other religions but that doesnt mean allowing or accepting disrespect of my religion when done with the intent to disrespect.

Hindutva is not about hitting anyone in the face but it's about bringing awareness and truth at the forefront which is kept maliciously hidden by people with ulterior motives under the garb of pseudo-secularism. Everything has a limit, tolerance as well as acceptance. Balance is essential.

Maybe you are right theoretically but that doesn't translates into ground reality for ex : the top level BJP may say we are pro hindu that doesn't mean we are anti muslim but the footsoldiers of bjp on ground are practicing pro hindu and anti muslim stand which I personally have witnessed
Your 2nd part about pseudo secularism, limits and balance of acceptance tolerance is something I agree on, the hypocrisy on that part needs to be dismantled without any political correctness .

Every religion has "I'm superior because I treat everyone equally" type attitude ,atheists too. As an atheist in a hindu family , I feel it is so strong in hindusim, to be one of its very serious problems . Because of this whatever-estic plural nature. Nobody actually can have a proper discussion on it , so that we can move towards genuinely accepting each other. It further fuels "I see no differences. So, there are no differences. So, I don't take any action" thought pattern. It is just a oxymoron but we are "moron" heavy on this one.

@@Sm0999 Dude I absolutely agree and appalled by the way dalits and other lower caste people were denied what upper caste people enjoyed. Justification of discrimination based on caste is abhorrent. But please listen me out. Reservation isn't the answer to this. It identifies who are dalits and who are not. It thrusts lower caste young students into positions they're not qualified for or not interested in. For eg, the highest dropouts from IITs and IIMs are dalits who got a seat because of reservation. Imagine the wasted talent. These kids could've instead done something they were passionate about. Even in the US, after years of slavery, they didn't implement reservations for black Americans. Reservation has had its run in Indian society. We should now try reservations based on economic background. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

I can't believe someone as intellectually capable as Shashi tharoor making a mistake of interpreting '33 koti' as 33 Crore divine figure. Also Hindutva is not a fanatic or an extremist idea, it's a form of Hinduism which resists. Mr tharoor being an ardent bhakt of Swamiji doesn't know this interesting bit from Swamiji's life when Swamiji was travelling to Europe on a ship and a Christian father was spreading venom against Hinduism by saying it's Satan worshiping and what not, Swamiji got so furious that he held him by his collars and threatened to throw him off the ship if he doesn't stop, that's Hindutva in real life. I will respect your faith and way of life as long you do the same for my faith and way of life, but I'm not gonna tolerate you spewing venom against my way of life just to be a pacifist.

There're two versions of Hinduism. One, that's Hinduism, the Religion that's way of Faith. Another is Hinduism, the Dharma which's not Religion, which's not bound by any Scripture or Shankaracharya or Faith, not even by the idea of Super-Natural.
I follow that Hinduism of Seeking which's unbound, and Dharma which has no necessary relations with any Scripture, not even the necessary idea of Gods or Super-Natural.
That version of the Hinduism is the real Secularism. Secularism comes from Hinduism, the way of Seeking, Seeking the Truth and Conscience. And the ONLY Truth is Science.
Secularism comes from Hinduism. And Secularism is the real Hinduism.
And the Hinduism of Seeking, has been fighting with the Hinduism of Religious Faith, forever.
It's these two versions of Hinduism, that curves the Bharatvarsha.
And for the sake of Hinduism the way of Seeking, I must fight Hinduism the Religious Faith, and Clerics and Shankaracharyas and Scriptural Fundamentalism, superstitions.
You don't understand, Secularism comes from Hinduism. And Secularism IS the real Hinduism.
And if you want the real Hinduism the way of Seeking, then you must fight Hinduism the Religious Faith, along with ALL the religious faiths around the world.
Hinduism the way of Seeking is the bedrock of the Bharatvarsha. And we really call that version of Hinduism as Secularism, only.
When you're fighting with real Secularism, you're actually fighting with the actual Hinduism.
For the sake of Hindu "Dharma", that's Secularism, we must fight Hindu ReligionS along with evil Abrahamic Religions as well.
Secular Hindus are the real Hindus. Anti-Secular Hindus are the real enemy of the Hindus.
But, we don't need Pseudo-secularism, that's for sure.
We must eradicate Islam, the Religion of Terror, first and foremost. We must stop Conversions of Hindus, if we want India to remain Bharatvarsha. We must stop Missionaries and Fraud-Ambedkarite fraud-Islamo-Buddhists Conversion Rackets.
But without Secularism, India will go down in hell. Secularism is the real Hinduism.
For the sake of real Hinduism, Secularism, we shall be prepared to fight even the Hinduism the Religious Faith.

There was no RIGID Caste System in India before the European rule, but categorization of profession/work into seven types. This categorization of work was depicted as ‘caste’ in India by the British. Even the Vedas find no mention of caste, but ‘Varnas’, categorizing people on the basis of work. For example, two brothers born within the same family, one could be a Brahmin and other could be a Kshatriya based on their aptitude!
PS - The caste system is not part of true Hindu identity. The word Caste comes from the Portuguese word Casta; and the word Dalit was coined in the 20th century.

Every religion has some good thoughts and some that have gone wrong. It is a generally accepted thought that Hinduism shows "Tolerance" and shows "Acceptance". People say that because Muslim and Christianity came to the Hindu land. But, humans as humans have fought all the time. Thirugnanasambandar caused jains impalement ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambandar ; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impalement_of_the_Jains_in_Madurai ). Worst human torture done in the name of God and religion. His book "why I am Hindu" exposed his shallow and idiotic knowledge about Hinduism and Sanatan society.
Get Mr.Rajiv Malhotra and J Sai Deepak on Debate... with Mr. Shashi Tharoor...and see the fun...😂😂😂

Well vedas rigveda gives definition of four varna, yajurveda mentions definition of chandal and nishadha which is proof of birth based varna system and discrimination, mahabharat has many stories about birth based varna system ( check what " sut" in sutputra karna means) , bhagwat Gita talks about paap yoni etc and says one must do work of varna he was born into no matter how bad he was at it, and never do work of other varna no matter how good he is at it, (bhagwatGita 18:47)....with this context all Gita is actually trying to implement birth based varna system and discrimination out of which caste system originated. So caste discrimination is a religious problem that needs to be addressed.

Alpesh, please try and understand Sanskrit before you slander these terms. Look around, caste is present in all its malicious forms. I was denied entry to a club because I was wearing shorts and slippers. Guess it's a problem only when temples do it. London is divided into 9 zones and happens to be economic and class divide too. Or be it in the Indian Army where they have strict biological requirements. So many companies reject your resume if you are not from an Ivy League or IIT. Or if one dares, we can also ask why common people rarely choose people with physical disabilities as their partners. Do we choose to look beyond our preferences and affinities?

While I agree on his generalised comments, I feel Shaashi Tharoor overlooks the fact ...that we live in world where ..certain dominant religions sincerely believe...that it is their God given duty not to treat others as equals ..to convert, save their "souls" ...and take them in within their fold..This is a serious problem...because these religions think they have a right to condemn hinduism..while hindus are not allowed to do the same...which creates an uneven playing field for religious discussions...Defending and strengthening the hindu religion from being harassed and bullied by others...is what people like Shaashi Tharoor calls as "hindutua"..I have to ask him..do hindus go out converting others..and saying that they will burn in hell like the other religions???????.

False! Abrahamic religions teach peace, love and forgiveness. Only insecure people believe that their faith is constantly under attack.
It comes from an emotional and spiritual failure to accept the basic truth. The Truth : A good tree produces good fruit.

Nikhil Kamath's story of how he grew up and worked his way to where he is, is inspiring and the man stays humble. Tharoor on the other hand lost the essence of what he was saying about Hinduism when he drew equivalence to Swami Vivekananda 01:25 and mentions that "I became a devotee if you like of Swami Vivekananda." Did he know that Sanatana Dharma existed many millenniums before his father moved to England? I should be considerate as a listener because Shashi was born and raised in another country? I should be considerate because his father dropped his last name and so he followed too? or should I be considerate because he wrote a book titled "Why I am Hindu".
To conclude - If Shashi Tharoor lived on a piece of land in India and George the Britisher came to his home, Shashi would more than willingly sell his land to George. He would even lift his skirt up for George and become George too.

As an Atheist I can say without ifs and buts, If you're with DMK, then you're aligning with Anti-Hindu forces.
I was going to vote for Congress. But since Congress has aligned with DMK and SP, I'm absolutely not going to vote for Congress and Anti-Hindu I.N.D.I.A alliance. If you're with Hinduphobe Anti-National DMK, and Anti-Hindu SP then you're Against Hindu and Bharat.
As an Atheist I say #StopConversion #SaveBharat There's no Bharat without Gita and one and only Dharma of Mahabharata.
Those who want Hinduism stay alive and maintain the Peace in Bharat, they must not vote for I.N.D.I.A alliance with DMK and SP.
If you're with DMK, you're not with Hindu or Bharat.
Hell with Congress for joining hand with such Anti-National Anti-Hindu forces.
If Congress and Shivsena has joined hands with DMK and SP, then no matter what you say, you're against Hindu and National Integrity.
DO NOT VOTE FOR CONGRESS amd I.N.D.I.A with DMK and SP.
    Save Bharat, reject Anti-Hindu I.N.D.I.A #BandeMataram
If you're not a mazhabi, but a "Dharmik", then always remember the Principles of Bibekananda.
    1. Never be a Fundamentalist fanatic.
    2. Always put Science and Humanism over the Scriptures, and don't be afraid to reject anything unscientific inhuman things that you may come across while reading the Scriptures.
    3. Everything Unscientific in the Scriptures should be treated as mistakes by the philosophers and scribes writing down the Dharmik books. And everything inhuman you come across are malformations in scriptures interpolated by the malevolent scribes.
    4. Dharma is not Religion, as Theists and Atheists both are equal Dharmiks, and Theists have no higher ground over Atheists in Dharma.
    5. "Dharma Raj" listens to both Gita and Charvak Rishi. Dharma is never conformist. And the moment Dharma puts Faith over Science and refuses to reject any part of the Scripture as being false, and the moment theists stops listening to the Atheists, and the moment Dharma denounces Atheism as being one of the most important legit position, and only Science can show the clue of deciding between theism and atheism, the moment Dharma denounces that it ceases to be "Dharma."
    6. Dharma is not the way of Faith. Dharma is a way of SEEKING. Truth is even greater than God. Even Gods in Dharmik imaginations are shown to be seeking the Truth.
    7. Vedas themselves are promoting Agnosticism. The standard position of Dharma is Agnostic.
    8. But Vedas cannot ever be questioned with anything other than Science. No other Scripture in the whole world of any Belief System has superiority over Vedas, Upanishads, Gita, and all other Hindu Dharmik books.
    9. Atheism is absolutely fine and Dharmik books shall ideally always be read from a pure Scientific Agnostic standpoint to find the gems hidden in the Hindu scriptures and reject the unscientific things and inhuman things mercilessly. But, pure atheism is fine, but "FAITH" OPPOSITE TO VEDAS IS ADHARMA. Therefore even Atheists are Dharmiks, and if they establish their points with Science then you should listen to them over all Scriptures, but never leave the useful knowledge of the Dharmik books, and even as an Atheist you should be an "Atheist Hindu" just like "Vaishnav Hindu", but all Abrahamic Fundamentalist believers who KNOWINGLY deny Vedas and Gita out of contradictory unscientific "Faith," they all are Adharmi. Adharmis shall be tolerated. But if your last place to stand is attacked then you have to pushback, like in Mahabharata.
    10. Always enquire the Scriptures from a Scientific perspective, and don't hesitate a bit in rejecting anything unscientific that you may come across within the Scriptures. Always put Science over Scriptures and Faith if you're a true "Dharmik" in contrary to the Religion or Mazhab. Take whatever that suits you as Good and reject whatever that you find bad or unscientific. This's truly what Reformed Modern Hinduism of Bibekananda teaches.
    11. Science is the most FUNDAMENTAL pillar of "Dharma," on the contrary to Religion. Vedas and Gita are "Central" to Dharma, but not "Fundamental." Hinduism is absolutely not Fundamentalist.
Scriptural Fundamentalism is Fundamental "Adharma" as Bibekananda suggested.
Dharma is NOT Faith. Dharma is Seeking and walking on the path of Truth.
And certainly, Science is the ONLY Truth we Know.
"Dharma : Seeking, Truthful Good Actions, ONEness (Oneness with the Universe, Oneness with ALL Humanity, Oneness with Everything)"
This is Hinduism or one and only "Dharma" as per Saint Swami Bibekananda.
Anyone who finds value in Hindu Scriptures are Hindus, be it a theist or an Atheist. This's the definition of being Hindu.
To a well-learned "Dharmik" Hindu, Atheists like Carl Sagan or Oppenheimer too are Hindus, as they saw value in Hindu philosophies and the Bharatiya (Indian) School of Thought.
Especially most of the Hindus you see abroad consciously reject (not reinterpreting or being apologist, just straight away rejects) parts or the Scriptures and still call themselves Hindus. It's unthinkable for any Muslim or other abrahamiks. Therefore nothing is more stupid than accusing Hindus of Casteism or any other ill practices, cause first of all it's not Caste that the Scriptures speak about, and Hindus are not bound by the Scriptures. It's pathetic to see people equating Islam and Hinduism.
"Hindu" is hardly a religious identity. It's a cultural identity. And Atheists are Hindus as well, who are connected to the philosophy of Bharat that is India. In fact, Hindus regularly pay tribute to the Atheist Sages. In fact, World's biggest gatherings occur in the "Kumbh Mela" by Hindus in respect of the Atheist Sage "Kapil Muni." Atheists who respectfully honestly explain Vedas or Gita or other Hindu books and literature from Scientific and Humanist perspectives, Hindus consider them as Sages. And for an Atheist, Hinduism should be considered as the "First Line of Defense" for real Secularism, against Abrahamic barbarianism.
