PEN Y FAN | A Solo Hike For Sunset | Brecon Beacons National Park

- Really enjoyed this solo climb to catch a stunning sunset at Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales, ascending from Storey Arms. The views from the 886m summit were spectacular at sunset across the central part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. I parked in the lay-by opposite the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre & it took me just over 1 hour to reach the summit as I bypassed Corn Du to make sure I made it in time for sunset!

Wow, what a spot for a sunset...those colours are amazing....summer evenings are usually beach/surf orientated for me as North Devon based 👌..not too far from the moors though 😉

Thanks Tony - love catching a sunset in the mountains! The Beacons are fantastic for hiking, my favourite area is the west of the park where the black mountain range sits - really beautiful there with hardly any crowds! Hopefully you can make it here one day for hiking🤞🏻🏴

Great filming in a beautiful location. Last week I completed the circular from Talybont Reservoir to Tywn Du, Graig Fan Las down to the car park and then through Talybont Forest 12 miles in total.
Do you think the new £7.50 car park charge will curtail the number of people going up just for the sunset as you did in the evening. (Glad I’m a member of NT at the moment)

Really good question, it may do during the peak months as I tend to park in one of the lay-bys further down the road and walk to the start, which I can’t usually do during July & August as so busy! I’m happy they’re introducing a charge - just hope it doesn’t make matters worse with road parking along the a470. To answer your question though, no I don’t currently think it will deter people - being a NT member is such a good shout though 👍🏻
Love watching you on your adventures. What a glorious sunset ! When you record in 'selfie mode' it seems the video is reversed / mirrored , bit confusing on the landscape, is there a setting you can change for this ? :)
