totally forgot about this channel, its so specific yet interesting to see analyses of quake speedruns in such a concise yet downtempo manner, there's no hype, no BS, no crazy editing, just a chill voice explaining speedrunning strats in an easy to understand but not patronising manner, gotta keep an eye out for ur stuff more as i kinda forgot i subscribed lmao, but yeah great vid!
Why in the world are your videos so underrated? Your voice is so soothing and the overall quality of writing and editing is top notch! Keep up the good work :)
I never felt like playing that way myself, but the speedrun community never ceases to amaze me. The stories, the skill involved, how meticulous the players need to be. good stuff.
New Karl Jobst video comes out ----> "mmmm it's fine, I'll watch it I guess". New Quake Speedruns Explained video appears ---> "OMFG drop what you're doing and watch this now!"
about a 15 ER i strongly believe it can happen ive had a little strat to use one of the spike launchers in the ceiling to boost you forwards and downwards which lets me rocketjump earlier which seems to save around .25 over my 16.4 ive also gotten some nasty fiend boosts which could squeeze out other time alongside better movement i think a perfect run with what ive had so far could be about a 15.8 or .9 which i consider grinding for again soon also the framerate change stuff to save like .1 but im not too keen on that yet also really amazing video loved the explanations!
A bit surprised you didn't mention that Chambers did one less bunny before rocket-jumping to that teleporter! 😀 Quite incredible that a full second was shaved off of that already awesome-looking run. Edit: as I'm quite late to comment on this, I see now that someone (not Chambers) has done 0:15 in the ER! I can't wait for your video on that one. :)
Regarding rocket jumping and the height of the levels sections, I'm not sure "it just so happens..." Id was aware of rocket jumping, and Romero was an avid speedrunner. I'm sure they knew about those skips.
@@h4724-q6j Well, if you've played the game, you'd know there's a rocket jump secret in one of the levels. Wolfenstein's instruction manual says Romero set the par times by running straight to the exit as fast as possible. You could also check out Sandy's videos about the development of quake (and Doom). There are also various interviews with Romero, as well as keynote speeches, where he makes such comments.
@@robertmcknightmusic It is true that there's a grenade jump secret in E4M4. Romero doing something which can technically be considered speedrunning for Wolfenstein does not make him an "avid speedrunner", and it does not mean that Tim Willits designed E1M5 with rocket jumping in mind. Sandy's testimony is not to be trusted.
@@h4724-q6j [citation needed] And seriously, are you being so anachronistic as to apply the meaning of "avid speedrunner" today to the 90s? Do you really think TW is the only person to ever work on that level? I'll wait for your sources on all your points, including Sandy's credibility.
"Quake has ghosts now" Holy crap. DeFrag style speedrunning servers with ghost players when. I don't care if we need a whole new NetQuake specific anti-lag netcode for that.
I can EASILY do this map in 8 seconds with 100% completion on nightmare without firing a weapon. 6 seconds if my monitor is turned on but usually it isn't. 4 if I use my hands instead of my eyelids. And 3 if I'm sitting down instead of fighting an juiced-up alpha grizzly bear during the run. I can't be bothered to record it, though. You should be cool like me.
Was very enjoyable listening your commentary Connor. Thank you ❤

15 seconds just happened, and by a new runner "raidbell" Its up on speed demons archive. Just insane
Yep, it's nuts!

First time on your channel, great breakdown of what’s going on here for the untrained eye. Love the recams.
Thanks! And yeah, Joe's recams make all the difference. I'm learning how to make them for future videos.
Fiend boost in vertical direction is really elite level playing. Not just luck, even though that can be needed also.
Great video Connor!
Great video as always! Good job Connor!

Spike-boost sounds amazing. Yeah watching your 16.4 makes a 0:15 seem (just!) possible. Keep going!!
Go for it!! 👊👊
Great video as always! Happy to see you back.
These Quake videos are extremely interesting, thank you for making them.

I’m so glad that I found your channel. Love quake and love speedruns. Hope you’ll cover E3 and E4!
"Chambers broke what is almost certainly the last second barrier"
Ah, they never learn 😏 Great channel, though, this is a cool discovery!
haha of course who knows... but no-one can see a 15 seconds run happening on nightmare skill ;)
Nice video. The recams are sick!
Not only he has broken the record, but he has finished the level with 2 HP instead of 1, thus breaking also your explanations😆
Great video, as always!
8:15 If there just one demo added in 2022 it were 1337 demos , my ocd hurts a little now hahahaha , great vids and anylizes
Swiggity sweckards, Chambers' coming for those records
Amazing video !!!!
"double fiend slope jump" sounds like an acid rock title or some shit
Well this should be getting a sequel soon
Great vid, here's some engagement~
chamber god
Awesome videos Connor!
Would it be possible to slice off a tenth by curling out the end tunnel to get some momentum for the last jump?
Hey Daniel! It might be possible. But Raidbell just recently finally hit a 15 second run, so I'd say the map is officially 'done' now :)
I have actually started to watch Quake IM speedruns in slow motion and I reckon I'm still missing a few details as I haven't played the game in ages
15 seconds was made omg
hello can u pls include the nice guitar music in the intro next time
Your voice is so cool
very, very cool
Excellent video, instasubbed.
Love these vids! Where can we find the ghost mod for quake?
It's now built into JoeQuake, which is the official engine for speedrunning :)
@@quakespeedrunsexplained Awesome! thanks for the response
nice!
