As someone who just found out that these things exist it’s disappointing to find out there are so few videos that actually cover wtf it is these things do and what they’re all about. Is this video as good as it gets ?
We have an LEF 300. Keep in mind ink is ~$100/ cartridge and the printer requires constant cleaning by jetting ink into a wast bin (which it automatically does) to keep the head viable. Plan for $700 in replacement every few months whether you print or not.
Hi, what you don't mentioned is that the user need to know how to use Photoshop and and illustrator or Corel draw to use this machine. Making the a print is slow and the actual print is very slow. I have one and it took a while to get it setup correctly and still difficult to use.
The uv light cures the ink immediately - so whatever you print comes out pretty much dry. That's how it works :) the ink isn't suited for objects that come anywhere near your mouth though.
I heard UV printers are meant to be used regularly, so the printheads do not get clogged. For an occasional user (as I would be) it would be an expensive nightmare replacing the very expensive printheads after each printing pause lasting more than 24-48 hours or so... Is it really so?
yeah, it is a serious investment. On par with something big like a cnc router. Probably not many home gamers in line for it, but makerspaces and other facilities can make sense
700$- Hell yeah what a steal 1,700$- Not bad at all...I'll just pay in installments every month 7,000$- ....I guess if I sell the cars and charge to the emergency credit card we can get it 17,000$...oh and the ink is like 400$-....Alright somebody is getting punched in the face
@@daa3417 I realize that once seeing the price, but since you can get other related techs (3Dprinting, CNC, lasers) of a similar size (only about a sheet of paper+ some height) for a few hundred to a couple thousand, I thought it would perhaps the same (especially since you also need crazy expensive ink). I'm guessing if this becomes popular, the prices will plummet soon, since 90% of the machine is already cheaply available by way of these other areas
Worst printer i hav can't print on metal or plastic. And also the ink price is too high. I several times complained the service person about this and now the mother board is dead delay of ink supply and parts it's not only our problem same machine was bought after us by our recommendation they having Same situation it's really a worst product from Roland and hear after wil newr suggest ur printer especially flatbed 😔😔😔 newer expected this from ur brand
Nicholas Heidl we have the biggest one for about a year and a half now. It’s kinda temperamental and needs us to stay up on its maintenance, but results are amazing. We use it every day, and it paid for itself within about 6 mo! Super happy we got it.
Can you imagine one of these at your makerspace? What would you use it for?
having this sitting in my space, I went through journals, keychains, laptops. I keep thinking of stuff I could put cool designs on.
Print money on paper?
They use these for cell phone cases. They can do like 10 at a time in some machines
Phone cases, Lego and other things
How can you print on inside of laptop got printer today and its not big enough to fit a open laptop on?

Hey dude, what are the printing costs roughly?
why would it need to be replaced if it's been cleaned and not used?
I always appreciated Roland for their products like plotters and embroidery plotters I saw back in the 80s 👍
You get to test out the coolest stuff. This is awesome.
I concur with this assessment!
Awesome video. Would have loved more samples and video of it printing this was an excellent overview.
awesome video - especially appreciate you talking about the software and printing on uneven surfaces. Thanks
Thank you for making this video! It was so helpful and full of the information I've been looking for
I thought Roland made electronic instruments and related equipment. Nothing like this. That is AWESOME!!
Their two different companies, I had to look that up to. lol
thought you were wearing a bathrobe if you had more grey hair you would be the dude haha
I'm slowly working my way that direction

The price is insane.
$17,995.00 for the 12" model
It will drop in a few years, like everything does. The age of whinning, god damn.
@@armentumhominum9931 excuse us, Mr. Billionaire 🤣🤣
@@arnaldofernandez State your case as to why the product is overpriced then. "I can't afford it" isn't a valid argument.
There are quite usable Chinese alternatives in the 2500-4000 USD price range. They usually have a printhead form EPSON.
Hey Lebowski, dude.
If it can print texture do you think it can be used to make embossing folders ?
Hi i what print on polythene small size bag it posible
Need a business model to afford just the operating cost, never mind the initial or ongoing outlay.
Can it print on plain white "cricket gloves"?
I still don't know how a UV Flatbed printer works. Is it like an inkjet printer just with more splash-range? And where comes the UV part into play?
How fast is it? ... does it smell? ... is it toxic? ... How much ink does it use? ... etc. etc.
Tons of questions unanswered.
The UV part probably has something to do with instant curing.
Yes, I want to know aswell!. And how do you remove it?
A scratch test with a fingernail would be nice to see. Do u need to clear coat prints?

... So where do we see you actually using it?
how much price
I was waiting for a few seconds of the printer doing its job, to hear the sound, etc.
@make: Did you guys try to use it as a resist printer for etching?
I’ve tried with clear primer for salt water electrolysis and it didn’t work. Might work for ferric chloride though.
There are also bigger models LEF2-200 and 300.
Durability of the prints?
Can it print translucent images?
Can print on latex balloon?
this thing is amazing- id love to own one... but 18k aint no artists pocket change...
Big Lebowski vibe....
18K? ... Not for me then :/

They aren’t marketing it at you, nor is the one they sell for $150k...
What UV printer company do you recommend
look at here
If the government doesn't interfere, market competition will drive the price down.
Looks like it includes white ink for dark materials. That is just the ticket for making Vectrex screen overlays!
wow having something like this you can start up your own business if i was rich that's what i would like to do

And then you woke up right? This is clearly meant for professional print shops not hobby makers.

Nicholas Heidl medium durability. Not affected by water, but can scratch similar to paint.
Mike Cheung what is your experience with this printer?
