Good transmitters. The fact that you can add CRSF for really long range or run head tracker for fpv are outstanding features for a surface transmitter.
I agree, it's a solid radio with a lot of potential for the price.
Great introductory video on 1st impressions of the RC8X. I’ve had the RC8X since
March of 2023 and am still discovering new features like failsafe and double ratio, 9different than dual rate). In fact, double ratio can get more complicated by using the DT levers to toggle certain attributes of how the RC responds simply by the flick of the DT lever. Radiolink has also recently started allowing its receivers to accept up to a 3S power source while the RC8X can accept up to 15V. You mentioned the range and it truly is great but when operating in high interference areas, signal can still drop. This happened to me recently so I did a little digging and found that the TBS Crossfire module is compatible by utilizing the DSC input. I can now run a CRSF or PPM output for a professional grade signal strength. No more lost signal when the speed run car hits a dead zone. Just wanted to share that the rabbit hole goes deep with RadiolinkRC8X and there are some very very interesting features:)

I should have the Crossfire receiver later today and will let you know if it truly offers an overall better quality connection to the RC. I operate at an airstrip, so there’s plenty of concrete and aluminum, along with all the frequencies in the vicinity that like to create dead zones for me. I’ll know pretty quick if the crossfire is a win for the speed run community or if it is only slightly better.
Side question related to “Does this Lipo Suck?”:
Onyx Power Systems offers some game changer Lipos and have become the “gold standard” for high-end competitive power sourcing. There are two very different cells that respond in different ways so it’s really down to driving style as to whether one driver might prefer a certain version of their cells over another. I like both but I have to “throttle ramp” by RC differently based on which lipo I am using. Here are some different but noteworthy cells to check out: The 4S2P 6600 LHB modified packs [incredibly responsive, even for light throttle finger drivers]; the 4S2P 8000mAh are a flagship pack but need a little bit more on an experienced driver to apply throttle in a certain way to “wake up” the cells], and finally, the HV 4S2P 10400mAh packs line of packs are my favorite, but absolutely require better throttle control/manipulation to tap into the real power they have. Those are also quite a bit larger than your conventional 4S lipo. What I like about Onyx is that they do not spend much time or energy into C-Rate Discharge, since they know it’s all overrated and that their drivers already understand that the higher the mah, the lower the C-Rate DC will be. It’s nearly impossible to have a 11500mAh pack with a 100C-Rate DC because of the physical constraints that are intrinsic to the cell form factor, as well as internal conduction relay in order to instantly discharge “100C”. Of course, the 6600mAh will have a fantastic C-Rate, but they are looking for that true sweet spot that offers 70% of the best of both worlds, mah & C-Rate DC. Anyways, they also use 7AWG wire and it makes all the difference.

I'm surprised how many people seek out the crossfire system or atleast range extenders.
So, for me, personally, it’s not the range as much as the quality of signal that has become a nuisance. I had a very costly speed run RC build [dual motor HoBao VTE2] that had a fantastic trial warm up run at 45% throttle limiter (using the radiolink RC8X limiter feature) at a nice 148mph. I let off the throttle and all of a sudden, lost signal. The RC took a hard left hook and crash into the airstrip runoff… some cosmetic damage mostly but I cannot afford to lose signal when only about 350M away from the RC. Now, in most open areas, I can get the full 450m+ (up to about 500m max). So the signal strength is the biggest challenge to date. The crossfire helps with a better quality signal (in theory). I will be testing in the next day or so and let you know what I think about it.

I havent been able to find a surface transmitter that meets all of my requirements... so building my own OpenTX one from a donor air transmitter with a multiprotocol module. Cant believe there isnt one commercially available!
Yes. We need some radio suface radio with open sourc. EdgeTX is even better. And can be used with ExpressLRS
@@R.B_B We really, really do need this. Having to spend $300+ to use ELRS with a pistol grip TX is 0/10.
What feature on the radio do you guys need?
@@RCexplained the big one for me is multi protocol RF system. A lot of waste pulling out OEM receivers to put your preferred brand in. But yeah in addition to that all the good stuff that opentx/edgetx provides. Special functions, voice callouts, mixing, "flight" modes, almost unlimited channels.

Having EdgeTX would be incredible, but I don't really *need* that. I just want to run ELRS for long range stuff without hackery.
The Radiolink RC8x is a nice radio, but the RC6 can be got from 71 to 99 dollars, Not trying to take away from the RC8, but at over 270 dollars, that is quite an investment
The RC8X is a big step up from the RC6GS.
@@RCexplained, I do agree and if i had a serious speed car or a nitro, I'd consider it as a little extra security from runaways, But the budget basher I am, still see the RC6 as the value. Like i said if i had the hardware worthy of the investment, I agree with you on the value
for me lipo powered controller is a big no-no and don't really like that trend
I got the RC6GS V3 last year to replace my DX3R and converted it to dual 21700 5000mah, so double the capacity the stock 6xAA configuration has
I got a 4 slot 21700 12A charger so I can charge 2 sets almost as fast as my 4channel 500w lipo charger charges all my lipos if I ever needed but normally I charge it slowly in advance
