I think its nice to hear people advocate for keeping this stuff stock. I like custom bikes but it's a bummer looking for old cb's and seeing a lot of hacked up half assed builds.
The advice of keeping stock stuff is something everyone needs to take the heart. When working on my CB360 in the "cafe racer" phase, I binned a lot of perfectly usable parts. Years later when I changed the theme back to stock, I cursed at how much money I was spending on ebay for the same parts that I tossed!
Not only are you rebuying parts, they unfortunately are of lower quality. I had to replace the gas tank cap gasket on my ninja 250 (they don't sell the gasket separately, you have to buy a whole new assembly) and the new assembly was visibly much less sturdy to someone trying to break in.
I had one just like it in the seventies it was gold and black and I drove that thing all through Western North Carolina Tennessee Northern Georgia through the mountain kick ass little bike
Nice bike Caleb. Also a big thank you to everyone at Common Motor Collective for the wonderful instructional videos. I am making a list of parts for my CB450 and will be ordering them from you awesome folks.
Yes sir pretty clean! I like the latest rebuild, the wrapped pipes look cool. I too am rebuilding a 74 CB360 and i am going with the cafe racer look and have quite a lot of parts from Common Motor to throw on. Happy Building!
Old video but hopefully you see this, I recently picked up a 75 cb360t. Do you think the stock manifolds and mufflers from a cl360 would fit easily to a cb360? I know Id have to bolt it on or do some light welding but im looking to know space wise if its worth while. Thank you and I appreciate the work you guys do. This is my first bike, was not running when I picked it up but I got it going. Need to figure out the left cylinder, and replace a load of parts but Im optimistic about it
Great bike Caleb! Is the seat a little thinner than stock? I have a CL350 k5. Looking at that seat but hoping it’s a bit leaner than the stock seat. Also, I can’t make up my mind. Shinko tires like those (I would need a 2.75 up front because I’m on a 19) or the heidenau scramblers? Thanks for your time!
I have an aftermarket texavina seat on this CL360 versus a stock that does have a slightly thinner profile. Shinkos can be good but I gotta say after a few months the 244's rode absolutely awful when I had them on mostly because of the offroad tread pattern. Parts of the knobs broke off and left them slanted, causing it to ride incredibly bumpy. I much prefer the golden boy shinkos for basic off road use. The heidenaus are fantastic if you are mostly riding on road.
I bought the motorcycle off craigslist for $1700(too much from what I know now). As for the budget haha I'm not sure, I spent too much going through several iterations to what it is now and redid a-lot of the bad "custom" products I had bought when I first got it. I thinking nowadays I could probably build the same motorcycle for no more than 3,500 if I found a good starting motorcycle.
Cool bike. I can't believe you cut out all of the bullet connectors and soldered all the connection. Glad you realized that was a bad move. I didn't realize you could blow a whole in a cylinder by being too lean. That's scary, I better double check my spark plugs and make sure they look healthy. Must have been extremely lean to do that kind of damage. Common-motor, you should have chased down the person who said they have a Sunbeam so you could do a video about that bike. I know it's not a Honda CB, but those are cool motorcycles. Honestly, I think they said Zundapp (not Sunbeam) which is also a cool vintage bike.
Oh yes it was a bad move for sure! I just enjoy making it impossible to work on my bike apparently. Jetting too lean is definitely catastrophic I would always stay on the rich side of things as barely edging towards that line especially the first time re-jetting. They are cool! He stopped and talked to me about it but it was his childhood bike he didn't still have the zundapp.
Your bike is awesome, Caleb! I just picked up my first motorcycle, a '75 CL360, too! I'm slowly picking up parts to create more of a cafe racer style, and just picked up some Shinko244s - wondering where your rims are from, and what size they are? You did a really nice job, and thank you for the video!
Thanks Brandi! I actually have the factory 18" CL360 rims on the bike, I just painted them black a few years ago. Message our support over at common-motor.com if you need any help during your build!
Awesome bike! Quick question from a noob to bike mechanics but are you able to switch a standard muffler that goes under the bike to having it run up and along the side? Like you have going on with this bike?
Its going to depend on whether or not the high scrambler style pipes are made for your motorcycle. Either that or finding someone to make a custom set. Its all about the actual pipes though and not the mufflers though for that.
Just put 1 in each through the front. Since these mufflers have a baffle in there it holds the wire pad in. Just make sure you use a Stainless Steel Kitchen scrubbing pad. It has thicker wire that will stay inside your mufflers and the stainless steel will not rust.
I love everything about this bike! Great work! I'm in the process of rebuilding my dad's '72 cb350 and I love your handlebars on your bike. What kind are they? Thanks!
amazing summary i rebuilt 3 times as well and feel the exact same way. just nuts and bolts. dripped a circlip in one time...that was a pita. will look into vintage 1000 for sure my 360 is ready.
I'm building a CL360 right now... My wireing was shot and I'm doing a minimal cafe harness from scratch. Mind doing a video on pros-cons of running a kick start only bike without a battery for those of us toying with the idea of doing a battery delete?
Hey kenneth, you actually need to run some sort of battery in the 360's but theres definitely an option of running kickstart only bike with a significantly smaller battery. We do have a video comparing the pros and cons of the different types of batteries you could run though: th-cam.com/video/S7AZuResoOk/w-d-xo.html
That rack is a $15 STEAL I found at a swap meet. Most the people I know that have a rack on their bikes seem to have acquired a used one in a similar circumstance.
I tried making a seat! Haha didn’t turn out great. This one is a seat made by texavina. They make replacements that mount in like the factory ones. Searched hard to find them because I wanted one that mounted on the factory hinges too.
@@Common-motor Texavina is great! They build nice replacements, and mount up solid to the stock hardware. Their seat pans are a little "soft" with regard to the metal in my opinion, but overall, a great option when the stock seatpan is unusable, or you want to have a custom cover. I just had one made for my CB175.
Hey Jim, when I uploaded the video we were out of stock of our black speedos and tachs. Common Motor Collective sorry for the late reply, the reason i noticed is i’m looking for a speedo with the indicator lights. I building a Frankenstein 450. I started with a cb 450 motor I bought off craigslist will keep purchasing and refurbishing parts craigslist and ebay until I have a whole bike.
Great points! The original Honda engineers knew what they were doing, keep it stock.

Came for the Honda scrambler. Stayed for the scrubbies. 🧽

GET ONE AGAIN....
Looks so much better with the black seat. Very nice bike.
Thanks for sharing this video! My first bike was a used 1969 CL 360 Scrambler which I bought in 1975. It served me well!
Nice bike Caleb. Also a big thank you to everyone at Common Motor Collective for the wonderful instructional videos. I am making a list of parts for my CB450 and will be ordering them from you awesome folks.
Glad to help!
Very inspiring! Been loving all the parts from CMC. Struggling to get it started, but it’s coming together. Thank you CMC!
YOU ROCK AMIGO...COOL BIKE!
Nice bike, Caleb. I'm rebuilding a CB360 at the moment, but I'm doing mine standard. Got a lot of bits from Common Motor.
Alistair Shaw Me too!
Sounds great! Like I said I'll DEFINITELY be doing my 450 more standard. Send us a photo when you get it all put together!

Hey Caleb,
Great job on the bike, looks awesome!
Keep up the good work !
Just wondering where you got the seat? It looks amazing!
I’m thinking of taking my chainguard off. You have any issues with it off?
Asking myself what exhaust to put on my "new" cj 360... Think it's done, thanks!
Did you get your original seat pan reupholstered? Looking to do the same on my cb350.

Those are just the stock air filters that have the badges glued to them instead!

Nice, vid Caleb. Curious...how many miles do you have with the scrubbies in the mufflers?
Probably somewhere around 2,000 with these mufflers/scrubby combo. Was out of commission for awhile when I blew that hole through my piston haha.
I love the look. Which seat did you use? Custom made or bought somewhere?
I bought it from Texavina actually! Only place we’ve found that sells seats that hook up with the stock hinge.

What tires you got on there mate?
Building 75 cb360 as a scrambler currently. Cheers.
I'm running shinko 244 dual sports already. At the time it was the only aggressive knobbier I could find that'd fit my bike and budget.
Thanks heaps for the reply mate.
Bloody champion.
Which size in the shinko 244 buddy?
3.00x18 in the front and 3.5 x 18 in the back!
Where can I find those blinkers??
I bought them back in the day from revival! I'm not sure if they still carry them

It's actually a whole replacement seat from a company called texavina. Love their seats!
