    Intellectual honesty at its finest - if I'm an advisor and a student comes in with all these kinds of documents and sources and asks me to work with her through them I find a piece of paper with only text I ask her where did you get this? Notebook won't do that it's just assumes it's the the user's text and won't say anything

    Wouldn't hallucinations be dependent upon the LLM? The LLM is the reasoning engine notebook is the layer above it. I think you just created a contest to see if you can make notebook LM hallucinate by creating inputs only

    I wonder if the attribution gets lost when pasting in a transcript from a TH-cam video . notebook will then blend those ideas in with your other sources and your own thinking

    • @The_AI_News9
      @The_AI_News9  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Totally true, all the knowledge from the transcript becomes a text notes source you entered manually.
      Infact, Google has a lot of work to do to ensure the attributions are retained through this whole research process. It's missing a lot of places and I've been giving feedback on them. Ex: Website links are not stored as reference when source attributions are created, the reference stops at source name not all the way back to Web site. Attributions also get lost when we save notes, convert them to sources etc., They are actively working on them.

    In your Playlist "NotebookLM Tutorial" this video (i.e., NotebookLM Power Tips That 99% Don't Know (2025 Guide)) appears at position #4. Given its basic overview quality for beginners, I suggest placing it as the very FIRST video in the playlist.

    "Notebook LM never halucinates"? It's not true. It halucinates all the time. Creates stories and gives false answers to the questions about attached documents. I'd like to have temperature slider here, as for now Notebook LM imagination is off the scale! And still it's really usefull tool.

    • @SteveCrane
      @SteveCrane หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would agree. It is a heavy user of hallucinogenic substances.

      I've never experienced this.

    • @The_AI_News9
      @The_AI_News9  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I'd say they are non-deterministic OR unpredictable. Neither always nor never :)
      You must've seen in my video where I demonstrated that using Walmart Pollution emission numbers when It declined to provide that factual numbers because they were not provided in the source.
      Same time when I asked it to create a correlation score between Pollution and Health issues, it used its own trained knowledge combined with sources was able to assign a high/low/medium rating. Now you could call this hallucination and some call it a feature :)
      But you bring a good point to control temperature/creativity, it's a good feature request we can file with NotebookLM and see if we get enough support! Lets give it a try ?

      @@The_AI_News9 'you' for user -; a big limitation of Notebook LM is that if you upload a link or a document, you cannot retrieve that link or document once it's there, you can only work with the text itself. For researchers, that's a huge problem.

      I'm hearing this from researchers who need to be able to refer back to the actual source as part of references. It's a big loss of information after you create the source from a URL.
      This must be part of the citations. Citation shouldn't stop at source but all the way back to ultimate source URL.

    Here is my method - it’s not perfect
    Each prompt is to be run sequentially:
    Add a Harvard.pdf document giving examples and explaining the referencing process to your sources
    Prompt 1:
    Define [Concept] in your own words using only the provided published sources. After each sentence, include an immediate in-text note identifying the source(s) you used (e.g., (Author, date [CITATION NEEDED])). If any information required for citation (author, date, title, publisher, URL, etc.) is missing or unclear, use "[CITATION NEEDED]" within the note, along with any available identifying details (e.g., page number, organisation name). Do not produce a full reference list or bibliography at this stage.
    After you get output run prompt 2
    Prompt 2:
    Next, (a) Replace all source identifiers from Prompt 1 with properly formatted Harvard-style in-text citations following the guidelines in 'Harvard.pdf'. Use the author-date system. If a citation still contains "[CITATION NEEDED]", leave it in place and add a note at the end of the definition listing all sentences that require manual citation review.
    (b) Provide a complete and correctly formatted Harvard-style bibliography for all fully cited sources, constructed according to 'Harvard.pdf'. Do not include any source that still contains "[CITATION NEEDED]". Use DOIs in full URL form (doi.org/[DOI]) where available. For direct quotations or specific data, supply page numbers (e.g., (Smith, 2023, p. 42)). Ensure all bibliographic details (author, publication year, title, publisher, volume, issue, page numbers, place of publication, etc.) are included if available. Include access dates for online sources if required by 'Harvard.pdf'.
    After you get output run prompt 3
    Prompt 3:
    Revise the bibliography entries from Prompt 2 to ensure they fully comply with 'Harvard.pdf'. Pay close attention to all formatting details, including italics, capitalization, and punctuation. Incorporate any additional missing citations that were listed as requiring manual completion in Prompt 2a’s note. Follow 'Harvard.pdf' meticulously, adding any required page numbers, publication details, DOIs as URLs, and publication years. Do not include access dates unless specified by 'Harvard.pdf'. Present the final, complete bibliography in full compliance with the style guide and ready for inclusion in the final document.
