Many thanks for the video, Jeff. I discovered the following approach works for me: Once I’ve gathered the information from the sources, I can consolidate it into notes for new sources and then delete or free up the original ones. (this works for selected notes as well as for all notes)
Love the bit "excelling not by creating new ideas, but by connecting the dots hidden in the noise of scattered sources." But some of those scattered sources are points of view in a person's head. Whether a podcaster, professor, scientists, business executive, how can we get the creator's POV out into the world as quickly as possible? -Jason, cofounder of Jellypod
As I was watching this video my mind was wondering about all the possibilities I can use this for.... This is truly amazing, really appreciate the video.
Off the charts value here; really appreciate how you pack compelling and relevant insight and razor sharp pro tips into concise use cases and explanations. And to boot, it's friendly, personal and approachable. Do you ever explain your video production methods and tools? It's extraordinary how energized, helpful and clear your tutorials are and I personally would love to understand your method. Thank you and keep up the great work. -M
How do I combine multiple sources into one file??? I'm doing Master of Laws, so I have alot of sources per topic. Will notebook LM also pin point footnotes in the sources?
@@JeffSu some PDFs are scanned and some characters can't be read. I might have used a wrong word. I meant vectorized PDF or PDFs that have passed through PDF to OCR vector tools. Experienced this with Claude wherein it said that it can't read anything with the uploaded data.
For me notebookLM doesn't respect check boxes for sources. It's basically either all or nothing regardless of which ones are checked. I can't seem to get it to only acknowledge certain sources. Yes there's a long workaround create a new notebook but it's a PITA. You seeing the same problem?
@@MrNeutronics Yes that's possible but I'd argue the vast majority of people won't want to do that and instead prefer the user-friendliness of notebookLM 😂
How about privacy? You put in it a lot of private data. Maybe it is not learning on it (are you sure?) but still you are uploading those docs into to the web...
NotebookLM limits... 500K words per source 50 sources per notebook 25,000K (500K * 50) words for all sources in a notebook 1,000 notes per notebook 100,000 characters per note ( Per Note, Not Per Notebook ) 20 podcasts per 24 hour period
Although I enjoyed the video I still have some reservations regarding the use cases that are shared. Some of the use cases highlighted promote sharing sensitive personal information e.g. medical records which shouldn't be shared with any AI/ML model regardless of the promises made by the parent company. There are plenty of sources that dive deeper into this topic but I just want you to be aware Jeff. Additionally sharing other people's personal info is also not a good practice e.g. name, address, phone number, etc on a candidate's resume. I suggest spending sometime to be more thoughtful about privacy and some best practices as your videos do influence the actions of a lot of viewers. Note that my goal is not to cause you to change this video or append additional info but rather influence future videos that may promote similar practices in the future. With that said I did leave a thumbs up!
This is great feedback, don't ever be afraid to be direct and upfront with me! 😁 That being said, I personally do believe Google when they say none of the sources are used to train their models so I stand by the examples in this video (for now)!
It would be helpful for learners if you slowed down a bit. Your explanation is way too speedy, so it's not useful for those who might need it in my class.
@@JeffSu that comment had me watching and waiting for you to be a creep but you only joke about yourself and I think it’s quite quirky and not creepy at all. You’re right. Don’t change. 😊

Excellent tip, thanks for sharing!
The use cases are SO HELPFUL in simplifying new AI tools like NotebookLM. My favorite is the "Targeted Insights" one, applicable across fields.
Wooohooooo thanks May!
That's a hard yes for more pro tips for NotebookLM, please!
As always, great video

Ask everyone to be a creator :)
@@JeffSu Haha that's the goal! Plus give them the tools to create podcasts quickly and consistently.
Been patiently waiting for this one!
Hope I didn't disappoint
Jeff, what a nice description of Notebook LM! Thank you!❤
Anytime 😁
Thanks!
😁😁
A blessing for my bachelor's thesis! Thanks for the tips!
You're welcome 😁
Another easy to digest video, Jeff!!
Woohoo thanks!

When researching, I find it useful to ask questions of Perplexity, which usually leads to some pretty good sources.
I love perplexity as well!
Love your vids. Definitely the best in the tech space. Please keep them coming!
Will do!
Always providing value - thanks Jeff!
My pleasure!
Finally, Jeff with NotebookLM🥰😎
😁😁
really useful info - thanks Jeff 😀

😮 Amazing video. Thanks a lot
You're welcome 😁
Thank you Jeff. Please do more use cases...
ok!
Thank you Jeff!! Amazing view on it
Thanks 😁
I know people are getting tired of AI, but this is really cool. One question, can you train it to write like you?
Add a source with your previous writing!
I _did not_ notice that you could convert notes to a source. Nice one!
No problem 😁
Yo! Adding the user manuals is a great recommendation.
I know right??
🏆 Now I'm off to give it a go...
Let me know what you think!
Thanks for this, Jeff! Should the PDFs be OCR'd?
What do you mean whether or not the PDFs "should be" OCR'd?
Just a correction: the maximum number of sources is 50, not 20.
Ah yes!!!! Thanks for the correction
Great video as usual. But does uploading Tim Ferriss’s book (or any other book) violate copyright law?
Please let me know when/if you find the answer 😂
Love this!
How do I combine multiple sources into one file??? I'm doing Master of Laws, so I have alot of sources per topic. Will notebook LM also pin point footnotes in the sources?
Combine PDFs together or put them all in 1 google doc
Thank you! Please bring more tips
WIll do 😁
Great for people doing research and reading lots and lots of peer publication.
Yes for sure!
Jeff, do you still use Chat GPT? If yes, in what cases?
Thanks a lot for your insightful tips and recommendations 🙏🏻
Did you watch my ChatGPT videos? 😅
@Jeff Su, Nice video, gonna use it then, btw could you share the strategy notes which is quite interesting.
What strategy notes?
@ the Ai strategy summary
Thanks for this, Jeff. Should the PDFs be OCR'd? Some LLMs have difficulty with PDFs that aren't OCR-ready.
I'll be honest, I've never come across a situation where the PDF isn't "OCR-ready" can you give me an example?
@@JeffSu some PDFs are scanned and some characters can't be read. I might have used a wrong word. I meant vectorized PDF or PDFs that have passed through PDF to OCR vector tools. Experienced this with Claude wherein it said that it can't read anything with the uploaded data.

audio .wav file

I noticed this as well, so I indeed always created a new notebook. But tbh, I haven't used it in a while. Maybe it has improved?
@revirdkcalb apparently unchecking specific sources works for chat, just not audio.
Yea the audio overview takes all the sources into account for now
Hey Jeff, do you think I can share anc connect my Notion 2nd brain to NotebookLM? 👀
That would be an amazing integration haha
More NotebookLM please

Can I write a business plan with this?

Not that I know of :(

Amazing, I come from Bilibili.
Welcome!
What do you think the difference between NotebookLM and creating your own GPT?
How would you be able to add different combinations of sources to a CustomGPT...?
@ in the backend when you build it, you can upload files for sources. Along with also adding websites while using the gpt

Personal preference I guess. I get more out of the tool than the risk of privacy issues so... yea

Privacy has been dead. All that's left is an illusion. Might as well squeeze some benefits out of reality.

NotebookLM
Yup
This tool will not stay free forever, think I would pay for it though if the package it with Gemini
Hopefully it stays free...
I wasn’t using NotebookLM so far…

50 sources per notebook.
Yes! Thanks for the catching that!

What about the people who complain when I go too slow? :(
so it's not just for making cringy podcasts :D
