I have a '94 C280 I drive it all week long to work and back. Closing in at 300K miles too. I love the W202. I had a 190E 2.6 before it and they ironed out all the trouble spots of the W201 in this car.
W202 was/is an awesome car, durable, comfortable, more quiet than a golf 7 (even with a diesel) and good looking. the perfect car for us slightly comfort and quietness starved europeans.
Had a c230 Kompressor a few years ago and now came along buying a 99 c280 both bulletproof reliable engines, the c230k was a bit more faster, but the c280 is much smoother to drive, better luxury interior, got magnflow muffler with y pipe, kn filter, Bench Tune, and sprint booster and man city driving and merging in the free way is so fun and peppy.
I'm from germany and i can actually see much more of the older Mercedes 190 here today than this W202 C-class. The Mercedes 190 had much better build quality.
This was late to market, as was the 1996 E-Class. Not sure how MB cut costs on these, yet still took 7 years to release them. John is wrong about "40 months" to develop, as the W202 began development in October 1986 and that's 7 years later in 1993, not 40 months. MB finished the design work in 1989, so that makes more sense against production start in May 1993.

It's slightly funny how revered the 190E is today!

These are sweet. I love that clean square body. Comfortable on the inside. Beautiful car. 💯
I love these Benz C280s.
I Love Mercedes C220, C280, beautiful and solids and great quality
There are lots of W202s here, in Armenian Republic.. Always used as taxis due to their durability and convenient shape for city usage.
Beautiful the Mercedes C280

These were great cars. They looked good, still had Mercedes solidity, had modern safety features, and they would last almost forever with care.

This engine would do good in an SUV.
Cost cutting joke, but not as bad as the W210 E
maybe it was good, sensible cost cutting then because the w202 had alot of things going for it including durability.
