    Since we have float why the whole philosophy about the cleat inward and outward positioning and stuff? Just make sure it's right under your toe ball and the float will handle the rest. Or am I missing something here?

    • @thepostalcadet253

    I have a unique problem, Ben.. my right knee was broken as a kid and my entire right side moves differenttly than my left side... i am 56... no physio ever.
    When i walk i need to place my right foot on a deliberate outward angle in order to maintain posture and not wobble
    Is it possible to use mixed cleats for someone like me?

    • @andrewbosco1010
      @andrewbosco1010 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      speedplay has the largest degree of float in or out. Ideally you want to achieve the same or similar foot/knee alignment off and on the bike. So you want to make sure you have a pedal/cleat system that will allow for you to do this. However a cleat adjustment is only a piece of the puzzle for someone like yourself with a more complicated issue if you fix one thing you might brake something else. So getting a complete and proper bike fit would be the best idea

    This is way too complicated. Easiest way is to mount everything so the bolts are slightly snug. Then do a few revolutions. Your shoes, clips and pedals will self-align. Carefully unclip and tighten down.

    • @Mike-up6go
      @Mike-up6go 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did same thing on my stationary trainer. Tightened the hex head bolts to the point they were snug but not too snug so they would move and peddled a few revs until I got it where things felt right. However, I loosened the straps that held my feet tight in the shoes and removed my feet from the shoes while the shoes remained clipped in the pedals. Tightened the front bolt ( the two in the rear are covered by the pedal ) then removed the shoe and tightened the two in the rear. Also want to mention I adjusted the pedals to the lowest release tension while doing this as an added precaution to prevent cleats from moving while unclipping. The tightening on the front bolt was sufficient to keep the cleats from rotating while unclipping.

    WHERE TO PLACE THE CLEAT: On your naked foot print a dot, in ink, right on the ball of the foot. Put our foot in the shoe and step down. The idea is to transfer the ink dot to the sole of the shoe. Drill a tiny hole through the dot. The drill hole should now reference where the pressure point of the ball of the foot lies within the shoe. Place the cleat so the 'dot' is directly over the center of the spindle.

    I have back knee pain at my left leg. I suffered it band syndrome and edema. I went a pt and they fixed the issue but issue come back again nowadays. I ask them to yellow or red cleat and explain them about float. My left knee is not going straight, I can feel that but noone is listening to me and they said stay away from red cleat. I think my left leg needs right alignment when I am cycling.

    I always have trouble breaking away from my cleats when I am stopping why would this be

    • @mark-1234
      @mark-1234 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it should take a pretty good effort to get out but it may be that the spring tension on your pedal clips is adjusted too tight, or your cleats are adjusted in such a way as to position your heel too far out. Either one will make release more difficult. If you back off the spring tension on your pedals, don't get them so loose that you inadvertently release while up out of the saddle and pedaling hard. That could result in a nasty crash, or at the very least an uncomfortable groin smash on the top bar. If it's a cleat adjustment to get the heel farther in towards the bike, make sure that's a natural position before adjusting for it. Following the advice in this video will help you decide if that's the case.

    Some day someone is going to discover that cleats are not as good as the leather pedal straps. It seems like the cleats really restrict your movement to a set position that maybe is unnatural to complete body movement from hips to legs to knees to foot.

    Interesting and informative video. However, more focus and attention should be given to the anomalies of the anatomical disposition in the Riders gate. She needs a proper physical assessment to uncover the weaknesses, the tightness, and the reasons, for the over pronation or supination, and also for the over eversion and inversion of her feet. Cleat adjustment only satisfies the symptom not the problem. After those physical issues are address and corrected, that entire process would have to be done again and the outcome would be completely different.
