In this video, we show you how to make your own footprint using KiCad.
We show you how to create copper pads, add 3D step file to your footprint and how to link it to a schematic symbol.
If you have not watched our "How to create a schematic symbol" video yet, please feel free to watch it below. Schematic and PCB go hand in hand :)

    Great tutorial!
If you did it for a subscriber, warn him that second row of pins should be backwards, first row down, second up 1v ^16 :)

Great tutorial ! I'm a rookie with Kicad, so i made great use of your videos ! Would you explain how to create custom shapes through hole pad with Kicad ? Thanks again...

When you placed the pins on the footprint, Pins 9-16 are reversed. 16 should be across from 1 and 9 across from 8. Pins go around the the chip counter clockwise.

Hi Jeffrey, thanks for picking this up :) Seems like I had a little brain fart here. Will fix this. Thanks!!

Thank you. If there is one detail I would like is expanding on how through-hole part pads are handled (a) on inner layers and (b) for pour layers, ie: thermal relief or solid ? I will be looking for more information on the multi-layer pads.
    Cheers and Thank You again!!

Hi Bryan, Yeah😪 I need to come back and fix that. I think someone mentioned it before and I was suppose to pin that message. Thanks for letting me know though👍

I followed your informative video. I can connect Route tracks to my newly created footprint HOWEVER the track will not connect to any other components. It stops just short. Can you suggest anything? Thanks

I'm aware that this is a somewhat old video by now, but I would have liked to know how f.fab is important. Other than that this was very helpful. I'm trying to create a footprint for an usb c type female SMD connector that I want to get placed by jlcpcb.

Nice video as always. However, I want to create a footprint for an NT72C-S10 which is a relay with 5 throughole pins. I cant find a matching footprint anywhere on the internet otherwise I'd simply use that. Thanks in advance. Benedict

My only little gripe is that you are a bit fast in the showing of this and it is too quick for me. At least there is a speed control on you tube so I can slow it down. Otherwise an excellent tutorial though.

Such a disappointment compared to other videos. Instructor speaks far too fast and unclearly. Also moves mouse all over the place making selections without explaining what he's doing. He clearly knows what he's doing, but I don't - that is why I'm watching the video!

    • @stuartpower6686

How can it be a disappointment when he's doing this for you for free?
