Discovered your video clip today, and watched it because I'm a HUGE John Wayne fan. I thoroughly loved him. My father raised me God and Country and he watched the Westerns when I was growing up. I consider myself an American who happens to be Black. God knew where He wanted my roots to be, and it's here in the Most blessed Nation outside of Israel. I've often said that in my world there were 3 that walked on water Jesus, John Wayne and my daddy 💜 I had the treat of doing to the John Wayne birth place museum, and want to go to Monument Valley. So, thank you for posting this. You've made my day. #God bless #GodBlessAmerica
I had the privilege of meeting John Wayne while he was standing in his driveway, I was visiting his next-door neighbor. I forgot the small talk. I was a young Marine at the time who had a friend that lived next door to John Wayne. I do remember these words as I got out of my truck with my friends. The Duke asks him, " Who is that young fellow with you?" We talked with him for about 15 min's in that driveway, now I brag about it now and then, LOL! That was in 1977, I,m an old man now. :)
I m not sure that would have been respectful back then? I met many actors and actresses then, I hung out at the Bob Hope Hollywood USO. and the movie studios. actors back then would invite Marines to hang out with them. One day I hope that you do a video on El Toro Air Base and the Hollywood canteen you cannot find much about either of these places on youTube. { My nephew was a child actor. } Thank you History Hunters.
it’s alright to recognize his contributions, but it’s also important to recognize his faults. “ I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility” “There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves” “I’ve directed two pictures, and I gave the blacks their proper position. I had a black slave in The Alamo” ^all direct quotes. the guy was problematic.
Thank you for paying homage to man who believed in our country. Your words were well spoken and received by your fans. It surprised me his burial marker was ordinary for being such a big star. Very humbling. Thanks!
Thank you for visiting and showing us the Duke's grave and paying respect to man and what he stood for. I'm sorry to see someone desecrated his grave by gluing that coin to his marker and people should learn to leave things alone and not assume that everyone needs to believe as they do. I do know for the longest time there was no marker to his grave and he didn't want his gravesite to be turned into a shrine and an attraction. I was in 8th grade when he passed and it was like losing a relative you knew and cared about and I was glad to have grown up with him as a role model in moves and television. May he always rest in peace.
Thankyou for showing us John Wayne's Grave. My mum, bless her was a big JW fan..absolutely loved him. I remember the day we heard he had died, it was June 11th 1979. That was the day I started working from leaving school. My mum was in the kitchen when they announced it on the radio, I heard her quietly crying 😥 He was a Mountain of a Man! A True Legend!
My grandparents married June 13th, 1964, so June 13th 1979 was their "Crystal anniversary" (as they call it in Germany) and my grandpa, who loved western raised his glass and said sth like "Rest in Peace John". My grandma bought flowers the next day and gave it to my grandpa thinking that someone at his workplace died.

She grew up in Bluff, Utah and was able to go watch them film Stagecoach and Fort Apache. My grandpa and his horse were Extras in Fort Apache! I have pictures of my mom and grandma with John Wayne. They both have always said he was the kindest man and went out of his way to mingle with the locals!
What a wonderful event in their lives meeting the Duke! Someone surmised that all of the cast and crew of one of those desert location films died of cancer and they suspect it was related to exposure to the nuclear test radiation detonated nearby. Did you hear that too?
@@jbenziggy The thing about all the people on the film, " The Conqueror" was though there was nuclear testing there, all the people from that film that died of cancer were smokers from what I have read.
Absolutely true! He walked up to me and my friend in Houston at the Enron parking lot, the building where he was filming (1968), "The Hellfighters", the story of Red Adair (firefighter). His opening line was, "Hello, ladies!".... in his booming voice with a big smile. A great memory.
I know the territory, used to raft the San Juan past those red hills and Mexican Hat near Bluff where those movies were shot. I was watching one of his colorized movies where they showed a military wagon train crossing a river , thought it looked familiar then I saw Mexican Hat in the background so I knew why it looked familiar to me. Made my day.
I love knowing where John Wayne is buried. I was in basic training when he passed away. For reading part of the headlines, I ended up having to do 100 push-ups for reading the article. Those were the only push-ups that I didn't mind doing. I love all of the " Dukes " movies.
I sincerely appreciate the tour! I knew a stunt man that worked on Rooster Cogburn and the lady.(1975) He got me an autographed John Wayne photo. It said "Good Luck Ronnie, John Wayne"! I had autographed photos of Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, 2 N.C. governors, 2 Senators and and Jimmy Carter. These were all while in office. In 2015 someone broke in our home and the only autographed photo they took was John Wayne's. I wish they'd taken the rest and left his. He was my idol growing up! I subscribed because of this video. I'm enjoying your others now!

John Wayne played so many great roles. He was one of the few actors that was a conservative. No politics here, I'll shut up. Great video Jeff and Sarah!
I thought my Hero John Wayne would of had a grand grave stone. My Dad was a Glass and Screen guy and replaced a window at John Wayne's home or retreat at Balboa Island. My parents divorced when I was 5 and my dad wasn't around so I latched onto Mr. Wayne cause to me he was the ultimate man and strong figure I desired. I wrote him at 8 yrs old and send him my picture. He wrote me back and sent me an Autographed Photo. When I was 12 he sent me another without asking and said, "Courage My Boy!". @@la_old_salt2241 That comment is correct. I visited the site 25 years ago and was told it wasn’t marked because they were afraid someone might dig up or disturb his gravesite, so they decided to leave it unmarked.
Always great to watch your videos. As a UK person it would almost be impossible for myself to see the places that you guys Jess & Sarah visit.. Thank you for bringing history closer to us!
My Dad was a hospital administrator for a nursing home in Newport Beach, where John's mother was a resident. I'm not sure who has the pic now, but it's John, his mother , and my Dad
I had to look up his parents after reading your comment! Thanks! I had given no thoughts to his parents but his mom and dad are in different Southern California cemeteries.
Thank you so much for doing a piece on my hero John Wayne. I too just finished high school and was in the Marine Corps when John Wayne passed away. I still watch his moves and will until my last breathe. He did good for this country, never talked bad about it. May he Rest in Peace and again thank you and looking forward to your upcoming videos.
My father was a huge John Wayne fan. My dad passed away in 2006. John Wayne holds a special place in my heart because he reminds me of my dad. We would watch John Wayne movies together I received a phone call and my dad would say hey boy John Wayne's own TV not telling might be right over and been watching the movie. Now that I'm almost 60 I understand John Wayne's philosophies a lot better. Anyway great job love your channel can't wait for the next video.
Good episode guys ! I want to visit some time. John Wayne was a local down there. Balboa Island is down the street from the cemetery. That’s a cool little place. The Duke was a regular down there. So was Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen. A few movie star’s had houses and boats on the bay. Thanks guys.
John Wayne was a great actor as he was a great Man! A true great Hollywood Legend, Icon and Western Movie Legend! I'm a huge John Wayne fan and my favorite John Wayne Movie is RIO BRAVO! R.I.P. John Wayne! 😇❤
Great vlog as always Jeff! Man I watch that show Botch and I always thought "is Terry Dubrow related to Quiet Riot Kevin Dubrow?" Well now I know! Thank you for that! He was a great singer, my wife saw Quiet Riot back in their heyday. Take care Jeff
@@chasjohn57 Yes. His wife said he overcompensated for that by being a patriot the rest of his life. It was also said that he was bisexual so I'm sure some people would criticize him for that. I don't judge a man based upon his decisions at one time but more about how he developed as an individual throughout his life. Some wouldn't have even let the lack of service bother them but it bothered the Duke. It seems to me that this flawed individual still had many redeeming qualities.
God Bless John Wayne. My forever favorite actor. I still love watching his movies. Anyone who stands up for self reliance is standing up for freedom and liberty!!!
Cool video guy’s! Amazing and beautiful cemetery like you said. I really like the background and the “not so known” facts or tidbits you tell us about that person or place. It deepens my interest and sometimes I’ll find myself googling that person or place to find out more! LOL. Oh, and I definitely like the background pictures or videos you include in the video like you did with the interview of John Wayne on this one. And one more, which is my favorite, is when you do the location pictures and overlap the old shot with the current location to see how it looked then compared to now. Great work again guy’s! Thank you for the video and look forward to the next one! Take care now pilgrim! Frank from Philadelphia, PA.
John Wayne's grave was unmarked for almost 20 years because his family was concerned about grave robbers. Perhaps Koby Bryant's family has the same concerns and will reveal where his is buried in 20 years.
Hi Jeff! First of all, thank you so much for going, and finding John Wayne’s gravesite. I really enjoyed and appreciated this episode. I am “one” of the bazillion John Wayne fan❤. I was two years old when John Wayne passed away. My incredible love, and passion for John Wayne came from my grandmother, who was addicted to him her entire life 😊😅. My grandma , pretty much raised me, and the only thing on her TV was John Wayne, quite literally. She had the same values, the same love, that same enormous heart and spirit that John Wayne had. And now that I’m a John Wayne junkie lol, I have, of course, passed that along to my three children, who absolutely love and adore him.
I'm surprised too that he has such a humble looking marker for the hugh famous star☆he is/was! Seen Quiet Riot at the Stone in S.F. early 80s before dubrow was a big rock star. Thanks, another great tour! "Bang your head"

That was very interesting. John Wayne spoke his mind, whether people agreed with him, or not, didn't appear to matter to him. I am not familiar with the ladies, but apparently they did make quite a few movies. All research does indicate or make it appear that Kobe Bryant and his young daughter are buried in the area you were in. Once again, thank you, Jeff and Sarah, for your research and visit to this cemetery. 💙🪦🪦🪦🙏...
Thanks for all the information, my former grand mother-in-law was a seamstress for the movie industry when they were in the SF Bay Area and she adjusted John Wayne's trousers for a movie they were filming up north in San Rafael, CA. She saved the fabric that she cut off his pants and told the story many times prior to her death.
His grave is fitting with the Man that he was an american Icon of the people and for the people. Nothing fancy just a marker like all the others around him. God bless him and the America he loved. " In God we trust. "
I do love your stories and work. Really liked your story about John Wayne. He was very special to me and like you I felt like I'd lost a friend or family member when he died. Than you for what you and your Mrses do ❤❤

Just found your channel. Thank you so much for showing for showing us the " Dukes" grave. I love the history that you gave, many of his beliefs still ring true with many people. Best Wishes 🇬🇧
I'm surprised that Wayne's grave marker is not as elaborate as other celebrities. I guess as you mentioned the cost of such a tribute would be expensive. But since he was "the duke" it would have been appropriate. My same thought is that of Sinatra 's grave marker. Not reflective of his contribution to entertainment.
I have the same thought of Chris Cornells grave marker. First of all it looks like a foot marker not a headstone second Johnny Ramone isnt even buried there and he has a better headstone and a statue. Chris has a statue in Seattle that doesn't look like him.
...you should check out ,Charle Bronson's, grave site...simple, similar with an iron armchair, on the grave site to sit on,and a beautiful inscription on his grave.
@@jbenziggy I'm certainly the tallest and best looking... Doors that count? :) I've yet to see a bad episode, or one that I didn't really enjoy and learn from. You turned me into a history fanatic.
For John Wayne fans I recommend the Randy Roberts and James Olson biography written in 1995. It is better than the recent Scott Eyman book. During the shooting of "The Alamo", Wayne was smoking 200 cigarettes a day. (I'd say he lit 200 cigarettes a day, and maybe smoked half that.) What is interesting to me is how many of Hollywood's old stars prematurely aged- probably from the smoking, and drinking, and speed (They used it recklessly to lose weight fast). Spencer Tracy was 67 when he died and looked over 80. Bogart was 58 and looked in his late 70's. Ward Bond -57, and so forth.... A nice video from our friends at History Hunters. I wonder when California is going to start charging for cemetery visits? And then add another tax.....
I hope not. We already have 9.5% sales tax, gas around $5.25 a gallon and $1,400 a month for a studio apartment in Los Angeles unless you rent a dump in a depressing junk neighborhood where you have to worry about crime. 🙁
Seems we have "Red River" and "Sons of Katie Elder" on repeat here, any Duke movie is s good one! And, I was just about to say, "take US (landlocked) to the beach!" ...and you did! Thanks!
I loved the duke. I wzs in the Marine Corps when he died and on color guard duty so we asked the Lt. could we fly the flzg half mast. She said he wasnt a Marine. I said he played a Marine in alot of movies and played a marine better than some real marines...
My dad was born in 1907 also but died a few months before his 65 th birthday. He had a good life, heart attack killed him. John Wayne one of my favorite actors. Some day he was a hero? I think an actor who played a hero. Nice video thank you.
When Kelly Lee Tarentello was 29, her heart began to fail, and she was faced with additional health challenges. Her doctors advised her that her liver was not removing the toxins, and she also needed a liver transplant. In September 2016, she underwent a dual heart-liver transplant at UCLA.

@@RStark-ek7mh Nicely put 👍
It was many years after he passed before he had one at all.
@@la_old_salt2241 That comment is correct. I visited the site 25 years ago and was told it wasn’t marked because they were afraid someone might dig up or disturb his gravesite, so they decided to leave it unmarked.
Make America John Wayne Again! Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Awesome location. Thx. Enjoyed alot. ✌ Rest in peace Mr Wayne.🇺🇲
Lovely video as always. Thank you for sharing The Duke's grave with us.
Always great to watch your videos. As a UK person it would almost be impossible for myself to see the places that you guys Jess & Sarah visit.. Thank you for bringing history closer to us!
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed this visit with us!
What did your Dad say about meeting John Wayne?
Like what was he like in person?
Thank you so much for doing a piece on my hero John Wayne. I too just finished high school and was in the Marine Corps when John Wayne passed away. I still watch his moves and will until my last breathe. He did good for this country, never talked bad about it. May he Rest in Peace and again thank you and looking forward to your upcoming videos.
Thanks Tony! Thank you for your service to our nation!
My morning cup of coffee and History Hunters. The beginning of a perfect Sunday.
Beautiful cemetery! Thanks for taking us with you!
Thanks for tagging along with us on this journey. We appreciate it, Jordan!
The cemetery is very well cared for. I attended a funeral there this year and noticed that. They also do cremations.
Very good tour ! Thanks
John Wayne was my favorite actor. I watched most of his movies he was a very good actor on of a kind❤
John Wayne was a great actor as he was a great Man! A true great Hollywood Legend, Icon and Western Movie Legend! I'm a huge John Wayne fan and my favorite John Wayne Movie is RIO BRAVO! R.I.P. John Wayne! 😇❤
I love your work! Thank you so much for sharing with us!
A fair, balanced and respectful look at a great, great man.....and others. Where do I pick up some John Wayne toilet paper?
👍👏 I've been looking for some of HIS brand of TP for a long, long time.
Rough, tough and, don't take XXXX of anyone.
I like John Wayne's perspective on being American. Seems we could use a lot of that right now.
You are so right Andy always said it so simple
You mean the guy who stayed home during WWII while other actors and sports figures left their professions to go fight for America?
Yeah bit more division just what America needs.
Jonn Wayne grave
Thanks you for show John Wayne graveyards.he was to me one of the best actor in Hollywood.to me.
Awesome Content as always! Your production is worthy of TV; you should have your own TV show!
That’s really nice of you to say so. Much appreciated, Peter!
Great tour Jeff and Sarah! Thanks for taking us along!!
John Wayne's grave was unmarked for almost 20 years because his family was concerned about grave robbers. Perhaps Koby Bryant's family has the same concerns and will reveal where his is buried in 20 years.
@@RStark-ek7mh Unfortunately, they also steal the markers.
@@RStark-ek7mh lol. If there were money or power in the grave robbing Ovomit would be doing it.....and getting away with it

So happy that you liked this, Misty. He was a much admired American!
I'm surprised too that he has such a humble looking marker for the hugh famous star☆he is/was!
Seen Quiet Riot at the Stone in S.F. early 80s before dubrow was a big rock star.
Thanks, another great tour! "Bang your head"
Yeah Kevin Dubrow has a very sad ending. Like many rockers he got tripped up in drugs. Some people can’t handle the fame.
Thanks for sharing Jeff &Sarah.
I shook The Dukes hand in 1974 when he was Grand Marshal in the Rose Parade !!
That would have been a memorable moment for sure! I saw Gregory Peck in the 1989 Rose Parade but didn’t get as close as you did to Wayne!
What an honor that must have been.
Wow. Nice.
Awesome
@Lauren Alexandra no but we have a Facebook page!
Love it big fan of John Wayne. Watched all of his movies.
His last movie was "The Shootist." Great movie with Lauren Bacall and Jimmy Stewart. Great way to end his movie career.
I would very much like to see that one again
My brother-in-law worked at Warner brothers studios in the 70’s. He got my sisters on the set of the shootist how cool is that. They met the Duke.
His movies are my favorites all of them. He was a great real man. Need more like him.
@@deloreskelley2330 Hi Delores, My favourite film True Grit ' a Momentous performance by John and good co star Glen Campbell. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🕊🕊🕊
Actually quite sad movie, knew what movie mean’t. We lost a big part of Americana forever, what a legacy.
John Wayne is a true legend. I was brought up on his films. I used to watch them with my Grandad. Happy happy memories. Love you grandad.
Than you for what you and your Mrses do ❤❤
Another great episode as usual!! I love the clips and narrative you insert. So well done. Thanks for taking us to the beach as well!🌊🌊🌊💙💙💙
Wow, that is a great cemetery. I love how much research you do and share all the information. I know it must take so much time. Plus fun time for you two on the beach. Thanks!
Great job again ! WOW the condition of the Dukes grave is sad for me to see.
Thank you, Steven! We appreciate the comment!
My bucket list been to his birth place Winterset Iowa And nice new museum that they built I plan on visiting his grave this year or next love all his war movies
I hope that you can get out here in good weather and enjoy the beaches on the same trip. It was gorgeous there!
Wayne’s own epitaph for himself was the Spanish phrase “Feo, Fuente y Formal”, meaning “He was ugly, strong and had great dignity”.
I'm glad I find this video of yours because this one you will show one of my favorite actor John Wayne Keep up the good work,Jeff
You would think that John Wayne's grave would be bigger then that keep up the good work guys love the show.
Yes he was deserving of something grand but I guess he chose the more humble marker. Thanks for enjoying our show! We trust that you have subscribed.
@@jbenziggy Yes I subscribed long time ago I have emailed you a couple of times about a drone that I had if you needed stuff like that and wanted to see if you guys would do an episode on the old gravesite out at White rock Road in Planada ca
Awww..love that you present the old films of the forgotten stars. Second bananas are still special.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
So true!
Thank You For Sharing 🇺🇲
It was 20 years before Duke Wayne had a marker. The family was concerned for someone desecrating it.
And then someone did by gluing an unwanted coin to it.
Very interesting back stories to the famous graves Jeff and Sarah. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love that saying on his stone... So Beautiful! God Bless Mr Wayne in heaven! God Bless our World, we need it badly!
Great video very informative thanks guys
I love John Wayne ...and his politics. I have all of his movies on DVD. A great actor and a good man

Jeff and Sarah,
Excellent video 👍. I’m a huge fan of John Wayne, excellent history
I've also heard the cancers were caused by filming in areas where atomic bombs were tested.
@@greyferguson9319 During production of an horrible film, 'The Conqueror' (with Morrison as Genghis Khan).
I hope not. We already have 9.5% sales tax, gas around $5.25 a gallon and $1,400 a month for a studio apartment in Los Angeles unless you rent a dump in a depressing junk neighborhood where you have to worry about crime. 🙁
Jeff and Sarah , thank you easy listening....please do this again .
And I agree with him 100 percent!!!
My hero when i was growing up,my dad's too,we really enjoyed his movies.🙏
Seems we have "Red River" and "Sons of Katie Elder" on repeat here, any Duke movie is s good one! And, I was just about to say, "take US (landlocked) to the beach!" ...and you did! Thanks!
Thank you for this tribute to John Wayne, an American patriot! 🤎 🇺🇸

Thanks for the Kevin Dubrow piece of video. "Slick Black Cadillac" is a favorite I still enjoy.
