There is no "output gain" on the original. Maybe they didn't want to mess with that aspect? But a "passive attenuator" would be nice, especially since it's a stereo unit. Actually, TWO separate attenuators would make it an amazingly functional and more versatile limiter, but I think that the overall sound, from what I can tell on this video, is very, very good.
I think this demo is incredible. I usually wouldn’t have the patience to sit through something like this, but the sound, character, an extraordinary tunnel qualities of this compressor, made me listen to every instrument all the way through the final conversation. If you can’t hear what this device is doing, whether it’s level matched or not, that’s unfortunate! I wasn’t expecting this at all, this is a shockingly, beautiful piece of equipment, obviously meticulously made, and sounds absolutely incredible across the spectrum. Listen with headphones An extraordinary detail!!
@@dirface what on earth are you talking about. compressors are for compression, not gain. and listening to a demo where the on/off levels arent matched closely is a waste of time.
@@MartinMartin-yi9to Mu is an engineering term for gain, so this is a variable-gain compressor. In essence, the side-chain signal continuously adjusts the bias o the valve to alter its gain appropriately. Happy 12th birthday.
The compressed sound seems to have a beautiful articulation and depth, and, as others have mentioned, with the levels not matched it is very difficult to judge. I think it more fair comparison would be appreciated by potential customers.
Everyone seems to be unable to sit through what they are calling a "long video." Personally, I'd like a slower approach. I like details when evaluating audio equipment. Yes, I move fast in the studio in order to "capture the moment," but this is a controlled environment.
It's nice to provide some files ! The unit sound has that "weight" to it on the drums example, lovely. Though, the drums files in the drive are different from the ones in the video.
Hi Steven, thanks for the feedback! The files on the Drive folder are fully dry and fully processed with the GRANDCHILD set up as last shown on each example. The idea was that with the DRY and WET tracks everyone can do their own A/B easily as the audio from the video is processed in real time and will require to watch de video to see what is happening. We do have the wav files of the video as well and can share them if it is helpful to anyone.
Why is this not level matched? This way there's no point in comparising. A bit disappointing coming from an audio company. I was looking forward to finally hear this unit but this is not the way I'm afraid.
If you're aware of the volume changes, just turn your volume down a bit to try and match them yourself. If not, be aware of the tonal changes in each comparison. You're aware of how volume affects perception, this complaint is useless.
@@AmiliaCaraMia You know that even the slightest difference in volume has a big effect on perception. I'm interested in this product and would like to see an honest comparison to see if this product could be useful to my work. It's just a matter of professionalism I would expect. Of course I can download the wave files and level match them myself, I should't have to in my opinion. Nothing useless about my comment, if you're serious about these type of things, you would understand.
all this insistence on level matching...when mixing analog you arent always 100% level matched. the gain itself has a color here, especially when pushing the unit. I didnt find it disgustingly louder in the examples. its a quick and dirty demo
This is a demo so it would be fair to level match the examples. In real life it's also good practice to level match if you wanna know what it is you're doing to the mix and have the least possible chance you're just fooling your ears because it's louder. But especially for a demo, it should be matched cause otherwise you can't clearly hear what this compressor is doing.
The gain will still have its color with the processed signal level matched in post, that’s the point, people want to evaluate that color without the influence of a louder signal, even slightly, it’s deceptive.
Why aren't there any professional reviews of this unit yet? Is there a review embargo? If so, why? $2000 is a lot of money to spend on a unit that, apparently, HA is too scared to release to reviewers.
You can't hear the differences regardless of gain? Listen to the snare. Listen to the kick. They're not just louder. They're reshaped in so.e dramatic ways.
@@WisdomHouseCreative of course we can. but we also have done enough blind listening tests to know that a volume difference is a complete deal breaker, no exceptions. this 'dramatic reshaping' may be good or may not be good when level matched and theres no way to know unless you do it.
it sounds awesome
perhaps gain matching would give viewers a bit more to go on?
Great guys, it would be great to hear more Hiphop trap beats or House (electronic beats or bass synth) as well as vocals .. thanks 🤩🔥
Noted!
amazing! but not even a little knob to compensate the output?
I imagine there wasn't room... really important to have that though, I thought the same thing

Thank you Chris!! Really appreciated!!
It adds a lot of weigh and dimension to the music - sounds more like a finished record.
Thanks!
It looks really cool.
Thanks!
very nice sounding
Thanks!!
Hmm. I’m impressed. I’m definitely going to consider this for my master channel
Awesome!! Thanks!
u did it! well done!
Thanks!
The way louder processed audio. Always a seller...
Rightfully so. Vari-Mu means 'variable gain' and the whole point is to add gain and compression.
@@dirface what on earth are you talking about. compressors are for compression, not gain. and listening to a demo where the on/off levels arent matched closely is a waste of time.

@@m9shamalan In a vari-mu compressor, increasing gain amplifies the input signal, leading to more compression.

It makes the stereo field seem different (wider?), is that possible, or am I just mischaracterizing what I am hearing?
Depending on how you use it, it can definitely add more space to the stereo field.
Nice 👍
Thanks!

Have you used a sidechain filter in these examples?

There’s 4 , 2 each channel
is there a video anywhere on how easy to change…

A guy named @MillSounds said on Gearspace that he has a review unit coming in. He's on TH-cam.
So is it stereo?
Yes!
Why are you cranking the damn thing SO loud with every example!?

I did gainmatch on the fly (-5db? ish when it was on) It sounded very good. Would be awesome to own like 10 of them, but, money hehe.
Thanks Casper! We can get you a great deal on 10 😇
