    Thanks for video! I used a 3/8 tap. About 2 in deep, threaded rod into bolt and a 3/8 coupling nut to do the pulling on various spacers. Worked like a charm on one stuck rusted swingarm bolt.

    Well I hope this helps getting my 92 and 93 xr600r swimgarm bolts out cos they feel like they are in there to stay.

    I’ve encountered a stuck swingarm bolt on two XR-250’s. I removed the gas tank and laid the bike on the left side. After removing the swingarm nut, I began spraying the end of it with penetrating oil. After a day of this, I sat the bike upright and spun the swingarm bolt with a pneumatic impact wrench. The bolt would barely turn so I laid the bike on it’s side again and continued applying penetrating oil while continuing both of these procedures..
    While performing these procedures, I would periodically try driving the bolt out with a hammer and brass punch. Once the bolt began moving, I continued driving it out and in about an inch on each side. After about three days of this, the bolt was loose enough to be removed.

      Yup that works too iv done it that way befor I found the puller tool I made helps speed the process up

    What size tap and bolt did you use?

      Off the top of my head I can't remember but just go threw your tap set and find the one that looks like it will cut threads In the end of the swing arm bolt

    Just got a 2000 XR400

      All xrs have this issue unless you take it out after every rideing season and clean and grease best preventative maintenance you can do on an xr but alot of people don't do it and let it get cized in there

      We put a gas torch on the swingarm, mainly on the bit that goes through back of engine.
      No go as the casing was getting a little to hot. Not frame/motor/swingarm are in a 20ton press . After 2 days no movement. Contacted machanic after a week and he said slowly coming out. Talk about neglected maintenance.

    I tried this method and snapped two bolts, still stuck considering cutting 🤔

      Soke it in your favorite penetrating oil spray a bit on for a few days then try again iv let them sit for a week befor spaying abit more on each day and this method has worked for me on 4 400s now

    • @Stoneyx420
      @Stoneyx420  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem I see with cutting it is now you got potentially 4 stuck peaces to deal with instead of one

      @@Stoneyx420 yes I shall keep trying, cutting is my last option really don't want to do it, thanks for the reply. All the best 🇬🇧

      Why does this bolt need to be removed? Does it risk breaking? I’ve got an xr400 and have never touched it.

    • @geoff4018

      @@rippinmachines General maintenance as there are bearings in the swing arm that need to be greased or the engine block may need to be removed for works to the frame or engine but until you need ether one leave the thing alone.
