    I am very torn on this one. I really want to try LC200n and have never had a Native before so it would be a great way to kill two birds with one stone, however try as I might I just can't bring myself to regularly carry a knife with a backlock. I've tried with a delica and endura but a compression, axis or ball bearing lock always kick the backlock out of the rotation. Maybe the Native can convert me, but if not lets hope a Manix lightweight in LC200n is coming in the future! Great review btw

      Justin Barylski I carry this as secondary knife, and it works great for that. It’s a fully capable fifth pocket knife, and I want to try a g10 version eventually. I really hope they start making more knives in lc200n. That stuff is magical.. thanks buddy:)

    Naticve 5 was the knife that showed me a well designed knife can be small and useful ...
    Caribbean has Ti screws and clip...
    That's wierd this doesn't.
    Let me guess spyderco fanboys.. cost? Lol
    Great review bro... as always

      Yeah man... it gets some much done, comfortably, in such a tight little package, I want to try a g10 version eventually. Man... that milled carbon fiber s90v honka honka
      Yeah, I don’t get it🤷🏽‍♂️I feel like the price warrants ti screws. $120 for a fairly small knife, with mostly mounded plastic. You’re pretty much paying for the backspacer, the blade, and the hardware hahahaha
      Thanks buddy:)

    • @Pmike404
      @Pmike404 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      InThePocket there’s two different versions with the G10 handle scales.
      The 2017 and earlier G10 models are S35VN steel, have full steel liners, and phosphor bronze washers. They weigh 4.7oz I think.
      The current G10 models are S30V, do not have the full steel liners, or any washers. They do weigh 3oz if I remember correctly though. $160 vs the FRN models are about $115
      The only model of the native 5 that they sell right now with the full steel liners + the washers is the blue G10 but that is also S110V. MSRP is $188 for that one though.
      I was looking into getting a native G10 but couldn’t justify the price of the S110V or buying the S30V with what I would consider missing features. Personally I don’t think the G10 is worth an extra $50 over the FRN.
      So I recommend looking second hand for the older S35VN native 5 G10. I picked one up on eBay for $100 that was gently used. But I had seen them go anywhere from $90-130 on there. The action on that model is very smooth and I like the weight of it a lot too. I think it is far superior to the other models available.

      @Jack Blade Well, the blades themselves are the same amount of rust resistant, both being LC200N. If you're referring to the hardware on the Caribbean ALSO being LC200N, then I see whatcha mean. I have both, and maaan are they both really sweet carries and in two completely different packages, save for the steel.

    Thanks a lot! This is a GREAT review, down to earth, and insightful. However, if I could give you (unsolicited) feedback, it would be to fiddle less with the knife. You can move it a few times, but it would much better if you left it resting on the mat for longer time, instead of moving it around so much. Specially when you open it and close it so many times in the same way.

    Great review. Thanks.
    I have the Caribbean sheepsfoot and the edge retention on LC200N is surprisingly good.
    My only reservation with the Native 5 Salt is the FRN scales being molded on the inside to act as washers. I keep running across people saying many have blade play as a result. I could see the washer pads settling flush over time though.
    Now for my obligatory pointing out how ridiculous it is that we allow people with pens to tell people with guns to tell us how long sharp objects in our pockets can be... for saaaafety. People with guns and qualified immunity, no problem. People with sharp objects in the pockets over 3 inches... Well now it's pay a fine and get in a cage time.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Poet Fisherman thanks:)
      Yeah, I don’t love that that fact either, but as long as I tighten down the pivot it doesn’t really have play, but it also won’t be as easy to disengage. Dropping down at least...
      Yeah, there’s a whole bunch of bull shit , and misconceptions that just promotes stupid laws. It’s sad...

      @@inthepocket7405 ok so I have this knife now and can't keep it out of my pocket.
      The weight, the blade geometry, the overall size, the cutting performance, the ergos, ease of sharpening and the total lack of concern over corrosion all come together to keep contenders out of my pocket. I picked up my Mini Domin tonight and forced it decisively into my pocket for work. A second before I walked out the door, I also grabbed my Native 5 Salt.

    Hi,
    With a Salt 2 in LC200N, based on the Delica 4, coming up, what do you think about the ergoes? Have the DLT Delica in 20CV and sometimes wish the handle would be more handfilling for harder cuts. On the other hand I do like the slightly longer cutting edge of the Delica, especially with an added sharpening choil. Would use them for the beach, fishing and kayacking. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you and Best regards from Germany.
    Cheers Lars

    Hardware is coated precisely because it is made of steel (as your magnet test indicates) and would rust easily in the environment this knife is intended for. Blade is made from super waterproof steel, hardware isn’t, and that’s why it requires coating.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand why they did it... I just just wandering why they wouldn’t just go with titanium. It would probably be the same cost anyways after adding the cost of the coating.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timbo437 it’s a great little knife, and you really can’t go wrong either way. Maxamet is a beast, and it’s on another level, but like you said, lc200n is no slouch. The more I use that steel, the more I like it.

    • @alphaneuron9045
      @alphaneuron9045 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I gotta warn you, LC200N requires sharpening like weekly, if not daily depending on how much you use it. The maxamet might be once a year. There's a huge difference. And, yes, maxamet makes LC look like a slouch. But LC will not rust even after 2 weeks under salt water.

      BirdLaw 101 no, I know man. I was putting the magnet to see if it was titanium, and I was saying they might paint the titanium to prevent galvanic corrosion, where two different metals are touching. I’m not sure if that happens between stainless steel and titanium, like it does with stainless and aluminum.

This is a great knife, and I’m going to have to get a g10 version next, or just go big, and go for the cf fluted😁 I actually don’t mind it... it doesn’t poke me in the palm like the stock clip does, although the color and finish doesn’t match the knife at all. I’m going to anodize it anyway, and I might polish out the bead blast too.

    Just ordered the dragonfly in H1 for 60$ off blade HQ. Probably still gonna end up buying the native. I love those yellow frn scales. Can I put a wire clip on the native? How is lc200n in comparison to H1?

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rick Sanchez Nice, that’s a good deal bro👍 You can’t put a wire clip on this unfortunately, but the wire clip would be really good on the native. I haven’t tried H1 personally, but lc200n should have a much better wear resistance, and that what I’ve witnessed in any cut testing I’ve seen with those two steels. Although, I don’t think the corrosion resistance is all that different. Lc200n also has great edge stability, but I don’t know how it would compare, from experience.
