I just started getting hook on those right side straighter shots. Definitely finding the pockets, reading the lanes for slick and dry spots. Now I’m starting to stay on the left side and hook the whole lane. My hand position and release are much better and now I can focus more on the lanes themselves. Your videos have been SUPER helpful and I just bowled my highest game of 214 last night. Thanks guys and keep ‘em coming!
So now I’m an Up 10 Dumper LOLOLOL Love it...now just need to perfect it. Played in my 2nd ever Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament this past Friday with a new Purple Hammer...my league average is 172.... I rode 10 like a champ on 41 ft pattern and we won!!! Was pretty exciting...just didn’t know I was a dumper until now. Good tips, keep up the good work.
I started playing straighter about a year ago and it transformed my game on the house shot. Literally 20 pins on my average. Now I am supremely confident when I step into league night
Want to say thank you for this video - I have been struggling with carry at 1 particular center this season and I tried to use this concept to keep my angles straighter and my hand up the back of it more to keep things more in front of me and my carry improved tremendously last night shot 720s and finally feel like I helped the team and didn't hurt them. So wanted to give you a shout out for the help.

Great advice on house shot bowling. I've bowled for 60 years now and this advice is spot on. When I am confronted by dry lanes, urethane is the way to go but sometimes I also need to use less hand and roll the ball more end over end to get to the pocket. Pin action is less when doing this but it can be the only way to get to the pocket and have a chance for a strike. Make me a shirt that says, "10 pins... GRRR!" lol
I uploaded a video of me bowling recently and I got made fun of for how short my shorts were. Even though in my opinion they are a good length. So I felt this one but both were funny for sure.
Coming from resident up 10ish player, my goal has always been to find where I can miss left a board and have it hook in the dry, hit my mark and go flush, and miss in and let the oil push the ball toward the pocket. Once I have this set up, it can be automatic 220-230 games.
Bowled in MD Senior Tournament and you guys have been living in my head. Played straighter angles and shot -3 for a 6 game block. Should've had 6 200's but missed spares (video suggestion on the importance of great spare shooting) cost me a chance to at least get to 1300 scratch. Keep up the great work. Proud to support The House!
I love how you guys explained this! This has been a problem for me and last night I noticed it being more of a problem as someone was throwing urethane right on my same track. Thank you for showing an easy solution to getting out of that
I don't know how much this will help anyone else, but I was always given the general rule of thumb about house shots having 2:1 moves where you move your feet twice as much as your eyes (target). Essentially a 2 board move left would equate to a 1 board move in your target and a 6 board move would be a 3 board move with your eyes. Most of the time with harder oil patterns and oil patterns where the ratio is a lot lower between the middle and outer lane I was given the general rule of thumb to make parallel moves, which equates to more 1:1 moves where every board you move generally moves your target the same amount. Again, a general rule of thumb but I think it goes well with the straight angles talked about in the video.
"Down-Ten Dumpers" Simply Priceless! And Surprisingly True.... Thanks for this Vid --- I will certainly try to apply these suggestion to my League strategy!!!!
Best advice I ever got was from a pro shop owner who gave me this piece of advice about bowling on a THS, "most people buy a ball that hooks to much for the conditions " I use bowling balls that people scoff at and they stop after I'll bowl a 245 with a brunswick twist 😆
Thank you for this video. It inspired me to move my target from the second arrow to the third (and I may move to the middle) and the results have paid off (when I manage to actually hit my target). Hope to see you at the Spring Hill open / pro-am. Would be amazing to actually bowl with you now that I have watched every video you have put out.

This actually makes more sense. I'm a lefty and once I keep it more in the middle I have a better chance getting at least 8 pins down or more. Thanks again. 👍
This is exactly the problem I have been having in league. Overhooking, crashing the headpin and leaving game derailing split. I was surprised to hear you guys say the house shots can be difficult once the lane transitions. I thought it was me being inconsistent (sometimes it is). Now I'm realizing the guys who bowl well are either playing straight up 10 or playing across the lane and getting the ball all the way out 3-5 and letting it hook all the way back. Playing 17 to 8 isn't the right move, which is about what I've been trying to do (it works well when I'm throwing the ball perfectly).
This is spot on. As a youth I was a up 10 or out to the gutter back when they didn't have a rule about units of oil on the outside. I was a mechanic at a bowling center not too far from Brad and Kyles area. Blue Springs to be exact. I must have practiced half my teen years throwing at the 10 board. Second arrow was my comfort zone. The problem with that is it is everyone elses also. I don't have a lot of hand...I consider myself a tweener. I like to stay up the back and have a high track. With the newer reactive balls it is almost a miracle to stay at 10 and bowl 3 games....It gets burned up. That being said with all the influx of 2-handers the middle can become a mad max of roads also. It used to be....bounce your blue hammer off the dry and clobber the scores. now the equipment is soo strong you have to learn to move in where hardly nobody is playing and avoid the pitfalls. if you get lucky you wont have to move much all night like in the old days. Might get some weak 10's so what. Learn to pick them up. It is better than a bounce off the dry greek church..These guys know their stuff. They are telling us the secret.....most just don't want to listen. It is hard to go practice and throw 15 or 17 board when ya know you can go swing it to the dry and hook it more and be cool cause the cliff is at 9 board. I know it hurts my ego but dangit they are right.

Great information! For me i bowl better after the transition. My games tend to go to every game. I struggle on fresh house shots as I don't get much carry early
I think this will really help me out, my problem has been trying bounce it off of the friction to create a big hook, but I need to do this to gain some control. Love you guys❤️
OMG!!THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! This has opened up so much for me. This is amazing. Thank you. I would love to see you talk a little bit more about exactly where your foot work starting boards are. I can see that in the beginning shots you were working the 15 arrow but where are your starting boards with your footwork? 15? 20? 25? That would be incredibly helpful. Watched the video twice and I am certain to watch it again to see if you mentioned it and I missed it. I have watched a few of your videos and they are all helpful but this practical "every day bowler" session is priceless. Thank you.
This is wonderful information, I experienced this last night, were I shot a 144, 183 and then a 234 and it was only when I started going straighter that my success improved. I talked to the mechanic earlier and he shared that he calibrated the machine so there was a consistent oil pattern on all the 40 lanes. A lot of people struggled because they most like went through the wet and the ball did not come back or went through the dry and over reacted. I love the challenge. But I do like to score high some times when things are easy:)
Great advic I'm 80 yrs old took ur advice.my speed is turtle speed 8 or 9 mph I first shot in League was 8 mph after the ball hit the pins as I walked back my whole team was asleep
Had rotator cuff surgery a couple of years ago. When I got back into bowling had trouble “chicken winging” and over turning my wrist. Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem.
Perfect video. My friend and I were struggling in league where the house shot is medium to light volume with a lot of friction along the sides. We opened up too much and sent the balls out instead of the “paralleling” that Brad was talking about. I ended up taking my spare ball and just playing up 5 and was striking more consistently.
You guys rock. I was just getting back into bowling after 20 years 60 now back then I was throwing the black Danger Zone shot 2 300 down and end bowler any suggestions on what ball so many to pick from will be bowling on house shot.Love the black danger zone
just crushed my high score and bowled a 247 just with this strategy, been bowling for about 3 months now and seeing crazy more consistency with this, i gotta say though sometimes its more fun to hook the whole lane ;)
I always liked a 2 & 1 move, feet 2 boards left, & spot at the arrows 1 board left. Or something similar angles. Really enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work!
Kyle completely agree straighter is greater on the house. My house at the start of 2020 decided to start using Stonehenge oil pattern. Carry down has become a huge problem. Can we take this video one step further and talk about layouts (generically maybe high rg vs low rg) to play these straighter angles throughout the night on a house shot.
This information will come in handy for me. I just recently got back into bowling, after not hitting pins for at least 10 years. My old strategy was to send my Columbia Messenger (early 2000's vintage) straight down the 5 board and hooking into the pocket. My second night out, I managed to roll a 210. The next week I didn't break 150. I couldn't figure out the lane.
I’m a senior age 65 intermediate (200) average bowler and struggle playing steeper inside lines. Some tips on lining up on approach while squaring up to target at release would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brad and Kyle.
I bowl at this house. The wet/dry can be a little confusing. Use light surface so your ball doesn't overreact when it hits the dry. I use 3000 grit on an asymmetrical pearl with pin up layout. Gives it more of a smooth arc reaction. Of course I play up 10 to start. I will move left and open up my angles some when the lanes break down but don't get your ball into the dry area too quick or it will over hook.

this video touches on a great point i need more help understanding! i am a lefty and when my line breaks down i have to move my feet right. but i have always kept my same target line. what is the ration for moving your eyes with your feet? is it a 1:1 ratio?
How do you achieve this for a backup bowler such as myself? I get a lot of tips on this channel for the "normal" bowler, but for the unorthodox bowler, some of these tips are hard for me to adjust my play due to how I throw. I'm a right handed bowler throwing backup. Thanks in advance for any input! And love your channel and you both!!! ❤️
Thanks for the video! Still not sure what can help me! I like to be an "Up 10 Dumper" (or 5 or 13). I go around 13 on most Sport Shots and do very well. However, I usually get to bowl weekends on old REAL wood lanes. They are oiled once weekly and the weekends are scorched dry hell! Just about anything is a direct hook to the 7 pin. 2 handers with monster revs and hand have no problem. Me at 64, not much hand, 14 mph am a different story. Today after wasting two games (one under 100) decided to use dad's 1968 Ebonite Tornado rubber! Straight to the pocket from the corner the way he taught me in '68. If it hadn't been for a couple of chopped spares i'd have broken 200! 181. I want to hook the bowl and be 2022 but i'm just not getting it! I have a Roto-Grip Hyped Hybrid. Apparently that ball is much too strong for these lanes. It does pretty well on the synth lanes in the next town. What can I do for a hooking normal ball on the old fried REAL wood lanes? Thanks from Indiana!
Thank you for the video. The last couple of weeks i have been trying to bowl more straight in league (2 different centers) and i have been hitting the pocket more often. This video made me want to join your online coaching
Instead of moving left , can u just go from reactive to urethane and play the same line and if gets super dry , I gotta 1951 black diamond rubber and play the same line with that to 😁🎳???
This is basically what I do, daniel. I have a solid and a pearl that are good for medium-heavy and medium-light respectively, then a urethane for if it's extra dry, and I'll use the same line all day, switching between the balls.
I'm attending a company night out, and guess what...we are going bowling. I've never bowled in my life, but with the help of your tutorial videos, hopefully, I'll be victorious. PS, when do I release my grip on the ball after the run up?
You guys are spot on with this video. My "home" center switched to kegel ice on older amf hpl lanes and I am higher rev. It made the center which already played like an enormous cliff even more so and the only way I can control it is to keep my downlane target a bit more inside and keep my angles shut down. Stay away from the cliff! Another thing which helped me was switching from a ball that looked good in the center previous to the switch to my trusty green quantum which blends the lane even if I have an oops shot and get it wide because of its smooth motion when it sees early friction. I was throwing a "highlight show" ball in the early weeks of league as it used to be the only thing I could get to clear the front of the lane but after the change it just went dead sideways no matter where I played. Also I feel playing the lanes like this gives me good practice for tournaments when I don't have as much free hook. Happy Holidays guys!
Great tips guys! Actually i learned a lot from you two to remind me how the basics works. Had a 16 year break from bowling, and now i tried my first game a week ago.. Going To the finals at first place 😂

Probably 6 boards left of the target.
That was some filthy info and that's a filthy stasche! Much appreciation amigos
Awesome video guys!
I laughed way too hard at the “Up 10 Dumper” comment. I’m proud to be an ‘Up 10 Dumper’!
Great advic I'm 80 yrs old took ur advice.my speed is turtle speed 8 or 9 mph I first shot in League was 8 mph after the ball hit the pins as I walked back my whole team was asleep
Make a shirt that says something about leaving ten pins. And kyle that stash is wild.
Please do such a lovely video for tough flat oil patterns as well.
Well, Brad congrats on your sportsman reward.
Had rotator cuff surgery a couple of years ago. When I got back into bowling had trouble “chicken winging” and over turning my wrist. Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem.
Im a high rev low speed guy (500 - 17) and I hate house patterns but will often throw plastic to keep it straighter!
I agree with all the people who commented about buying an “Up 10 dumper” tshirt. What say you, Kyle. Will you make us one?
Perfect video. My friend and I were struggling in league where the house shot is medium to light volume with a lot of friction along the sides. We opened up too much and sent the balls out instead of the “paralleling” that Brad was talking about.
I ended up taking my spare ball and just playing up 5 and was striking more consistently.
Thanks for the info been struggling with this exact scenario.
So when you move in do you move your eyes farther down the lane or pick a spot to shoot over
I always liked a 2 & 1 move, feet 2 boards left, & spot at the arrows 1 board left.
This is why I love being a lefty on a house shot!!
Daniel Robichaud, bravo to you. I wish I still had my Ebonite rubber Maxim IV, at least for spares. Even plastic can hook too much sometimes.
I love you guys as videos it helps me when I bow I would love to both you guys
I’m a senior age 65 intermediate (200) average bowler and struggle playing steeper inside lines. Some tips on lining up on approach while squaring up to target at release would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brad and Kyle.
Kyle, you need to trademark the statement 10 board dumpers, lol. Need to merchandise itl
I will move left and open up my angles some when the lanes break down but don't get your ball into the dry area too quick or it will over hook.
what is best balls to use on a house shot? urethane? hybrid? reactive?
One of the most informative bowling videos I've seen yet. Thank you
Edit: grammar
good instructional video but disappointed no holiday videos. I think the reason the two of you are popular is because you’re very likeable people. I don’t care if it’s going out for pizza or playing xbox, I think a lot of us would love to hear how you’re doing. anyways, merry Christmas.. hope you guys have a great 2021! 😊👍
this video touches on a great point i need more help understanding! i am a lefty and when my line breaks down i have to move my feet right. but i have always kept my same target line. what is the ration for moving your eyes with your feet? is it a 1:1 ratio?
I am an up 10 dumper on league night! Thanks for the name!
Great video; thanks for the tips!! What you think of using Urethane in hose pattern’s?
How do you achieve this for a backup bowler such as myself? I get a lot of tips on this channel for the "normal" bowler, but for the unorthodox bowler, some of these tips are hard for me to adjust my play due to how I throw. I'm a right handed bowler throwing backup. Thanks in advance for any input! And love your channel and you both!!! ❤️
Funny you should mention "up ten dumpers", back in the early nineties we noticed this phenomenon but we had a different name for them😬😬😬
Thanks for the video!
Where do I go to become one of these students you guys have??
Thank you for the video. The last couple of weeks i have been trying to bowl more straight in league (2 different centers) and i have been hitting the pocket more often. This video made me want to join your online coaching
Nice video!! Thanks for the input!
I've tried my dad's '68 Ebonite Tornado rubber (in great shape) and that ball has zero hook. Huge pin killing impact so i've been using it for spares.
Awesome thanks guys!!!
Hmm good info but i would of liked more ball info for these type of lanes , as house shots a very common on league night play.
Merry Christmas everybody.. stay safe - stay at home.....
Just started doing this more. Worked great for my average to go up.
Should we ball up as the lanes transition and we move inside with slower speed and straighter angles, or keep using the same ball we started with?
What about layout and ball surface recommendations for when you have to move left into the cliff?
th-cam.com/video/OpGrH9mUH9Y/w-d-xo.html
Use light surface I use 3000 to 4000 grit. Do not use polish 5000 grit on wet dry conditions.
More forward roll. Keeps the pins lower and the carry is better too.
Up ten dumper, I'd buy that shirt. That's me gents!
Great tips guys! Actually i learned a lot from you two to remind me how the basics works. Had a 16 year break from bowling, and now i tried my first game a week ago.. Going To the finals at first place 😂
Just to mention further some straighter seem to get away from you if the house pattern has become very light in oiling the lanes.
This is actually very helpful
Thanks so much
Is the St.Louis region a hotbed for bowling? Im about 2 hours from St.Louis but bowl league. I would love to find some tournaments!
Were can we buy the " Up 10 Dumper". bowling shirt
that was awesome
Hey man, was wondering whats up 10 dumper, though it sounds funny as hell haha. Straight bowling?
Ahh the 10th board arrow?
@@pokiis3of10 when I can luv going up second arrow long the ball hooking strong into pocket. When the pattern allows squaring up to pocket. Walter ray. Norm duke made a living tgat way
Storm pro. Nice advice
Kyle out here like super troopers.🤣
Slower speeds with Xtra whippinsss 🤩🤩🤩
I love this video, BUT Kylel you had the Alfalfa hair going on there brother !! Go Little Rascals !
Sometimes I like playing up 10 dumper. Other times I like swimming in the shark zone where the big shark prather normally swims at. It's tough and uncomfortable, but you learn to get used to it and better at it with a lot of patience and practice.
