It’s impossible to say one is better honestly cause in the end it comes down to preference. They both sound SOOO similar throughout most of it and have little moments where they add their own flair. For example, when Jamie says “fuck it” he sounds real angry but when Ryan says “fuck it” he sounds desperate. It’s just up to preference and how you like certain parts sounding. Overall I find it pretty cool that Jamie matches our OG JD pretty well while adding some grit to make it different. And obviously Ryan’s version is the staple and sounds so clean all the way through.

The original musical came out several years ago and stars Ryan McCartan as JD who you can hear on Broadway album but there isn’t a clip of that song on TH-cam as of right now (there have been in the past but they get taken down pretty quick) but I’d just keep checking for it every now and then because you never know! Hope this helps! :)
I feel like jamie’s is more satisfying to listen to but it’s a lot more like he really doesnt care anymore and he’s just blinded by anger while ryan’s is more like he really believes this is a great idea and he’s desperate for veronica to be with him again and he’s really worried and anxious about her since she hasn’t answered in a while. I like ryan’s acting a lot more since jamie’s is mostly just a lot of anger and like why isnt veronica listening to my demands, but jamie’s is definitely a much more satisfying listen for me
I personally prefer Jamie over Ryan because of how scary he made JD seem. Ryan's version is nice to listen to because it's very clean, and obviously OG's are always amazing, (Ryan screaming "Veronica" is the best I've ever heard it being done tho so I'm in love) but the emotion Jamie puts into the song really completes it for me. When I first watched his performance of this song (through a screen unfortunately 😭) I was honestly shocked at how terrified it made me, and no JD had ever scared me like his did. The acting choices he made allowed the scene to feel a lot more realistic to me. Some people say that he played it with too much anger for their liking, when I think that anger was perfect for the moment. At this point JD has really lost it, everyone he's ever loved has abandoned him, so he's feeling angry, upset and impulsive. The song itself is frantic, with the upbeat 1st verse which leads into a soft chorus before jumping back into the same upbeat 2nd verse before it builds up into the 2nd chorus where he can no longer remain calm like in the 1st chorus. It's like the emotions are boiling over and he doesn't care enough to control them in this moment in time. I also just love how satisfying his growls/yells are in the 2nd chorus, and the growls he makes on certain words like "don't make me come in there" has a kind of subtle growl I've never seen anyone talk about but I love listening to. Also his "no thanks" is perfect. So yeah, Jamie for the win😤
I'm wearing bone conducting earphones which vibrate your head for the sound instead of being in the ear and this video felt strange, but interesting. Each side was vibrating a little differently and it was a cool experience. I personally like Jamie as J.D. a little more because he seems to put more emotion into the singing and acts more crazy.

I wish there was a mixup of both that I could put on my Spotify playlist bc now it bothers me that the one that ultimately sounds better is missing the really popular, emotional part at the end that I've heard in trends before I even knew what Heathers was.
