Someone once described Line 6 distortion as "Kazoo distortion" and I had the brilliant idea of getting a line 6 spider and a kazoo with a vocoder pedal and comparing if the kazoo through the vocoder created a better distortion than a Line 6 Spider.
I unfortunately couldn't afford it (and still can't) so please Glenn, think about doing this shootout.
    Please
I'll even send you different kazoos for testing

If your serious about the kazoo bit, you can actually buy kazoos with built in stereo jacks, so you could actually plug it into an amp. It'd be cool to see how you'd make the sound actually useable.

One guy is a lot smarter than the other, that's all. In the United States, as the television makes us stupid as F%$#, that same television tells us if we believe what they tell us then we are smart. This makes American's ever more dumber, to the point where we can't even tell what smart is anymore.

The short answer is yes.... try the middle 4 of an open G tuning, throw in some slide and off you go. Or try a 3 string cigar box guitar tuned to a low d tuning or g tuning in 5ths

Dude, i cannot recommend a CBG enough. Got one as a gift for my wedding, became OBSESSED. Something about its simplicity makes playing it ridiculously fun. No fluff, fewer strings to mess with, makes it so easy to sit and compose really sweet stuff.

You should do reaction videos to metal bands that fans/viewers request whether it's their own music or whether it's music that's professional, if they're great, give em props, if they're meh, give em constructive criticism and if they are bass player level stupid, Rip em a new one. I've owned and played on cigar box guitars for some years now. They are mostly played in an open chord tuning. So if you wanted to do this in the traditional cigar box guitar way you should try it tuned to open E. It's an entirely new experience. Gets you out of your comfort zone. Nothing is where it's supposed to be. I've found that this can really open up your guitar playing. Makes you think and opens you up to more creative approaches to playing.

Jug bands were much later than the mid 19th century, early 20th (especially the 20s). A similar instrument that existed earlier was the diddely bow, which was a stick, two screws, some baling twine and a bottle as a resonator, it was the training instrument for slide guitarists and was used for learning intonation and technique.

Awesome Video as usual! I've learned so much thanks to your videos and have treated my room with DIY basstraps two days ago, with awesome results. I have a silly question, I see a lot of people (like you and other pros) using outboard gear for mixing and mastering within their DAW. I mean, just stick a mic on the kazoo, and make sure you get a huge wood one for the tone and a larger kazoo for a rounder tone. Then just plug the other end of the kazoo into and amp and kick up the gain and bass frequencies and you can even use a boss metalzone if you'd like.

There are tons of us around the world that make all kinds of CBG's... They're a lot of fun to play... Ellmar's flat pickups are awesome!

Glenn new rough mix, using axe FX for guitars, and yes programmed drums, but only as a reference track, live drums will be added after all vocals are done

I have a JN "Cask" series "Cigar Box" guitar. It has a volume knob, a tone knob and a black soap bar P90 pickup. It has a dirty, almost muddy sound. I find that it's absolutely PERFECT for Doom Metal like Black Sabbath, St. Vitus, Electric Wizard, and the like. The A D G B tuning sounds interesting. I might just buy me another one just to have it at that tuning. (Also a tenor guitar) Mine is tuned to "Arkansas" tuning right now. (E A D G)

Most pickups are roughly the same inside. A magnet generates a magnetic field. A transducer (basically an electromagnet in reverse) takes the disturbances caused by the strings as they pass through that field, converts it to voltage and sends it out to the switches, pots and output jack (add in a preamp if its an active instrument) and to the amp.
If you have a magnetic transducer pickup in your guitar, which is pretty much every pickup ever made, you're going to be able to play metal through it. Just add in a distortion or drive pedal, or use the dirty channel on the amp.
You can play metal on a fucking banjo if you have a magnetic transducer pickup on it.

Very cool, man! I wanna get myself one of those cigarbox guits just because they are so damn unique! It actually surprised me how freakin good it sounded, though! Particularly that clean sound with a splash of reverb: it's so gorgeous that I wanna have it's babies!

The clean sound is great, you could totally use that in serious productions and nobody would think it sounds out of place.

This is not new information. Real drums recorded right and with a good drummer will always be far superior to any digital substitute: past, present and yet to come (I've got a fiver that says this will never be not true. Anyone game?). But for the purposes of a demonstration, song writing, pre-production, etc., programmed/sampled drums can be quite useful and save a hell of a lot of time!

Markus Koivisto My mate (an experienced bass player) told me that mixing with sampled drums is a real fine art and not everyone can do it properly, so maybe Glenn just needs a bit more experience to get them sounding better (my mate recommends EZ drumner - apparently that sounds better than any real drums in the right hands).

MrArchie800 that’s the silliest thing I’ve ever heard tbh.
Real drums are way harder to edit and mix, but if you know how to do t and have a good performance, it’s the best thing.
As always with music, performance is king.
