@@Jackman_NC Del has far greater expertise in lutherie than I do, but I'm pretty sure that a fretless CBB would be quite doable. I've seen some debate on where to put the position markers on a fretless; my preference is to have them exactly where the fret would be on a fretted fingerboard, rather than in-between. Of course, then there are the fretless guys who don't need markers! 😎
Frigging LOVED it my "men"! Plural and all. I've been building CBGs for about 10 years now. Can't play like you fellas, but you sure do have my respect.
Del, I have been watching your videos for a while now and have built my first Cigar Box Guitar with your help, but this video, it just made me have to post up and say, WOW, so very cool. Real music with friends, that is the stuff right there. Thank you for the info and the inspiration, you sir, ROCK!
It would be nice at the beginning of your guitar builds that first off you give the scale and the string guages that you are using, that would be extremely helpful for anyone who desired to try your build. Thanks
What a Blast!!! Made my week...and its only Monday!!! Damn - that CBB and CBG sound SO good together! GREAT playing guys...this is really very GOOD!!! Cheers!!!
Sounds awesome guys.👏👏👏 I was thinking of doing a 2 string bass with a hubcap body for a mate. How did the 3 stings go? Would love any pointers if you have any. Love your work Dell.👍👍👍👏👏👏
I modified the BBG kit guitar into a bass. But I used the A D & G strings instead. To me the E string was too heavy for the little box. But it sounds pretty good.
Alright my man that $hit looks GOOOD! But, having build CBG's for several years now, I have learned something. Solid carved is Bad a$$, but laminated, is stronger and stiffer. Trust me on this. I have CBG's that can hold a tune for over a year, and even then, Very minor tuning required (I think it's more string stretch than anything). Still straight as an arrow and over 6 years under string load. And I can make then "look" solid with a fret board. But VERY nice! Thanks.
I love the idea of building a CBB, this will be one of my next projects. Got a couple of nice boxes, now looking for the material for a solid neck. Thank you so much for all these fantastic videos. They are so amazing, entertainig and inspiring and now I am on "CGB drugs." Now I "only" have to learn playing those nice, little instruments ... Greetings from Germany and stay healthy in these damn pandemic days!
Holy crap! 4:24! I build a CBG with that Exact same box (dragon head chess piece) for my best man 4 years ago!!! I $hit you not! I have the pics to Prove it! Used a black walnut fret board with mother of pearl 6mm inlays! I frigging LOVE it!!!! Subbed!
Del, I know this was awhile back but can you remember how y’all grounded the pickup. You usually use a hinge and ground it that way but not here. Thinking about making one for a friends 40th birthday, I personally can’t remember that far back….hehe…
You guys did absolutely incredible! I really enjoyed the cigar box bass build. My hat's off to you Del & Scotty. Are you guys going to start taking orders for cigar box bases? Have a great week gentleman!
This is some fantastic validation. I'm currently in the middle of my first CBG..I mean CBB build. I'm doing a 2 string as I have used a hockey stick for the neck that passes through the box and, yes, still has the blade attached. Been wondering which 2 strings would be best. Leaning towards A and D cuz I read the bassist from morphine ran the same setup. Any advice would be dope.
That was my first thought too. I would have just made it with 2 strings - E & A. Or maybe A, D & G for a 3 string. There's more info further down in the comments and in the description.
thank you... we used OAK... one piece ... The Lunatic Bass is a 28 inch scale instrument and the strings are La Bella LTF-4A-S Short Scale Low Tension Flexible Flats Bass Guitar Strings, and the gauges are .100, .075 and .056.
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar do you think it is possible to use regular strings(large scale) in a short cigar box bass like yours? Your projetc has inspired me :) but it is quite expensive short scale strings here in Brazil.
That was a Groove Mannnn!!!! Nice to see another CBB 3 string out there!
I had an absolute blast working with you on this build! Much appreciation for your experience, knowledge, and friendship, Del!
Scotty what did you use for string spacing? In the video you said you used 34" scale.
We ended up with an actual scale length of 28" and the string spacing is standard CBG from Del's template. It's a little tight, but playable!
that bass is sweet. I was just doing a search to see if anyone had done a bass at all. Glad to see it can be done, and done very well.
Will this work on a fretless setup Scotty?

You two look like a couple of high school kids messin around and having fun, except aged up 30 years. Always a kid at heart!
In high school 30 years ago is very gracious of you! 🤣
I love the bass sound. That's the next build. I am a bass player and am impressed. I always use flatwounds. Very cool 😎

Now you need to make a baritone cigar box guitar ! You guys were jammin' ! Sounds great !
Brilliant, you two should do some more!!

AWESOME. Perfect timing, too.
I've acquired a wooden silverware box that is basically a large, felt lined cigar box I want to make a bass with.
Well Del and Scotty you both are rocking right. It sounds good coming thru the iPad nice but live must really sound good.. I can’t wait for more.
Nice collab. Scotty plays like a lunatic 😉
takes one to know one ... and i know you both !!! 😎
Gentleman, a great way to start the week! Look forward to more CBBs and alternative builds.
I could listen to you guys all day long!
Good build , nice jam. Thanks for sharing.
You two sound great! Enjoyed listening to the video.
My wife said turn it down, yes that was awesome, thank you so much.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, now working on a bass myself 😊
Thanks Del, truly enjoyable. I've learned a lot from your channel.
Great video Del, brilliant sounds as always complimented by the true based sound. Scotty can rock. Davy

I'm very glad to see a three string bass built, and played. I've been thinking about one of these for years now. Nicely done :)
Wow, love this video Del. Best 10 minutes of my day. More please.
Really cool. I have one 2 strings bass.
....SOME TRUE TEACHERS!!!.... CONGRATS!!!
Hey Scotsman YOU GUYS ROCK!
Turn up the BASS!!!
Wondering when you were gonna get around this. Good stuff!!
finally got a ROUND TUIT
Awesome. You guys sounded excellent
Super. Magique. La basse à vraiment un super son . Merci les mecs pour ce petit beuf.
I am in awe. Thanks, fellas.
You ripped a pickup out of a rickenbacker? For a cigar box bass?? You're insane and I kinda love it.
I modified the BBG kit guitar into a bass. But I used the A D & G strings instead. To me the E string was too heavy for the little box. But it sounds pretty good.
I was thinking of using the strings in the same way. I think the low E is too big
How did you do frets?
I love it.Great tune.Gonna make one .Thx
Yeah the tone is actually pretty impressive. Very cool jam.
Cool! I've got a couple of CBB projects in mind myself. One will be a short scale fretless 3 string, the other a long scale 2 string.
Hell ya that rocked . I gotta build my bass cbg now for sure . I had already built a water bottle bass , but this looks cooler lol
Great JAM guys!!👍😎 Sweet Bass!😎
Groovy groovy sounds real good Keep On Keepin On
Very nice. And so much FUN!
Finally one for the bass players woohoo ! 👍
Fantastic! Cool build and you guys be jammin
VERY COOL Jam session :-)
You. Two. Rock.
Super COOL! Great job and jam!

All we need now is some peanut butter cause we have some awesome Jam😲. I play Bass and lead, and that was some tasty 😋 playing 👍
Now that was a real treat!
The new saddle is awesome! I love the engraved PUCKETT on it(so does my wife- her maiden name)
really?? you married up !?!?

good question… i forgot …but usually when using a hinge i ground one of the mounting screws
Thanks for that! Now I have to go build one too! (Walks away muttering.."As if I don't already have enough to do..... Bloody Del Puckett.....")
:-)
welcome to the mutter club... 😎
what’s the mudder with having another project? Your mudder would be proud of her son ... 🤪
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar She would have said you were a bad influence on me and not let me come out to play.
Not gonna lie, I burst out laughing/screamed in horror when he mentioned what pickup he was using.
Way cool ! Thank you for sharing.

OMG this is great!
Excellent build gentlemen. Sound is spot on! By chance is a PSYCHO CBB next?
a “Lunatic” with a “Psycho” ??? 🤪
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar in 2021 it's all fair game!
AWESOME 😎👏
Love love love it...
Very enjoyable music!
needs more COWBELL
Great stuff, but surely it's a CBBG? Or is that one letter too many? ;-)

This is awesome! Rock on 🤘🏻
You guys are great! Will a fretless bass work?
Awesomeness
Dang now I gotta build one of those 😃
Wonder how a resonator would work on a bass? Yall givin' me some evil ideas.
Scotty's awesome!
Wow - that's so cool !!!
Very goooooood!!!!
Amazing build!!! What is the tuning on this thing?? :-D
I made it but only 2 strings fretless pure acoustic no pick up
Ah great!
superklasse, vielen dank für s zeigen!
WOOOOOOO!!!
Nice.
Be interested to know if that neck stays straight for any length of time.
Truss rod maybe

We're very close to 3 months now since the build, and the chunky oak neck hasn't budged! 💪🏼
@@scottyonbass4003 Hey Scotty! Thanks, that's good to know. It was a great build.
Great stuff!
Hey Del, that bass guitar has a very nice sound,
What scale did you use.
I want to make something like this too
and the drummer can keep a beat ! : )
That was rad
Del, can I please post this on my site? Cigar Box Guitars Build and Play

Any additional width or reinforcement required for the bass? And what size strings did you use? Sounds awesome!
