Very nice tools, machines, as long as you have been putting out videos, I am always amazed, entertained and appreciative of your work. Thank you. As far as acoustic goes, I believe the lighter better.
Basically this is neck through guitar ...All you need is to slap some wings on either side of that thing and you got a little cigar box firebird.. .. she's great work.. Nicely done ..
If you make some 1/16" rabbets in the neck where it fits in the box you will have enough space to close the box and it will give a little room for future expansion that if joint were tight could cause box to split. Im assuming you are using hardwood for neck and 1/8" of material removed won't effect integrity of the neck.
It looks great, never find a cigar box like that around here. Guess will have to make one. Where did you get the specs for your guitar neck, or did you just follow a tele neck? Actually where did you get the design at all? Also, where did you find the 3 string hum bucker pickup? I am only seeing 4 string pickups.
Mmmmm , is it possible to make one with a hand saw a hammer and an electric drill , all them tools you use would cost me as much as a hundred cigar box guitars 😂
6:47 .. my first cbg ran into that problem... from then on I designed my builds such that the neck can slide all the way through from the opening to the back of the box, the neck is screwed in place, top and bottom for easy removal for repairs if necessary... Just my own observation and opinion: I think the bracing in your box is overkill! 😉 And thank you for pronouncing Shinto correctly! A favorite cbg builder youtuber of mine always says Shin-too! I tell him there are no Shintoo shrines in Japan! 😂 (now if only I can convince him there's no such thing as a "Fostner" bit!) 20:47 OMG! I need to make one of those!!!
.. to me it does seem like a lot of blocking inside there I'm fascinated now as to why... no neck dive here huh? Basically I need to stop reading the comments while I'm listening to the video... carry on😊
I am looking for a drum sander. and want to make sure it is wide enough to handle an electric body. What is the width you drum sander handles? What make?
My drum sander is a Supermax 16-32. While it is wide enough for an electric body (just barely) I now wish I'd have gotten the 19-36. I feel that size would work much better. I will likely upgrade mine to that size.
@@homebuiltshop Thanks. If the 16-32 will work, I am going with that. The next size up is a bit of an increase in cost. But it looks like it will handle an acoustic back/front.
so, the neck sits 1/8” proud of the top. and then you add the fret board. When looking at the video it seems the neck is higher than an 1/8”. Sorry for asking, want to build my first one, and I amseeing a lot of rvideos on making them, but not the info for measurements. This si the ifrst I have seen where this info is being given, and thank you for this.
No offense to anyone meant. Beyond the fun factor and the different look, what are advantages of cigar box guitars? This is not a rhetorical question. Please, feel free to educate me (as long as you do it respectfully and politely). I tried a cigar box guitar once. They are not easy to balance. The sound is O.K., not exactly great. I am probably missing something. I'll be ding-dong if I know what it is! Cheers, Dave. P.S. I follow your creative videos. I've learned a great deal from them. Many thanks!
Well the fun factor is important. But also it being fewer strings makes it easier in some ways. Usually tuned to an open power chord and sometimes played with a slide. Ultimately it comes down to just being unique and for some it has a good blues vibe and/or a good diy vibe. Ultimately a similar(though not identical effect) could be accomplished with a standard 6 string by just taking off 3 of the strings, keeping A, D, and g. Then drop the A to G. The main difference then is that you don’t get the shorter neck width which may not be desirable - string spacing is probably tighter too. I do think there could be some interesting things done with 3 string solid bodies though…
I guarantee you can do this project with just a few hand tools. A hand saw, chisel, razor knife, cheap drill and maybe a couple other things you can find in your garage or in the junk bin at your local pawn shop. Your guitar doesn't even have to have a perfect radius on the neck. Just make what you can. Not having "fancy tools" is no excuse with this project. Stop making excuses for not creating something. That same motivation to "make it happen" can have you owning a few power tools in no time.
"FEEDBACK!!"
That high gain sound was very cool.🤘🤘🤘

Loved the entire build!!!!
Very cool, great job on this fun CBG!
Thanks, this is one of my favorites.
Nice cigar box guitar build. It also sounds really nice and has a lot of sustain.
Really enjoyed watching and learning. I am attempting my first CBG build and have been feeling my way through and making learning mistakes.
Nice sustain!!!
Nice CBG. Enjoyed the video.
What an awesome build!
Great! - love the care you took making that.
Sounds amazing fun...
Awesome build!
Good work Bro
Great video, love the way you work, very precise. Could you please tell me what type is the glue that you use. Many thanks in advance.
I use Titebond Original. There's a link in the video description.
Many thanks, I'll see if I can source this in Aus 👍👍
Great build!.
I like it, all I can say for now. Now where did I put those cigar box's?
This demo you're playing from 28:24 to 28:44 is the song Conquest by Ronnie and the Red Caps? I like it, very good project. Hugs from Brazil.

Where did you get the bridge?

for your 3 string CBG’s, how wide is the neck? And what is the length? 25.5”?
I make my 3 strings 1.5" wide and usually 25.5" for the scale length.
What finish do you use on the neck? Why no finish on the fret board?
Were did you buy your name marking wood burning iron Thanks Stevie Ray 2
I got mine from Budget Branding Irons online. Its been a great piece for me.
@@homebuiltshop thank you
Do you make your own 3 string Humbuckers Pickups?
I am just wondering if the neck and the attached pieces of wood sit on the bottom of the box or the top?
Want to see you build a bass guitar out of one
Thats a great idea. I haven't made one of those. Its going on the list. Thanks for that suggestion.
Do you have the neck template for sale?
I actually use a 50 watt Fender LT50 for Gigs every Saturday. 50 is more than enough for most any Bar
I agree.

Do you sell these guitars?

What's more popular, 3 string or 4 string CBG's ..??
Dude !!. You make a cool cigar box guitar !!. How can I get you to make me one ? If possible. ??
Cool
Where did you get that fret cutting jig
Its from Stew Mac.
thanks for showing the build, about how much $$ went into making the C box guitar?
Home Built Workshop
How about converting it into a 6 string CBG in Bb (tuned D, G, C, F, A, D).
No offense to anyone meant.

Its Dirty, funky and raw.... It cant be understood for its not a scientifically measurable thing.... Its a feeling :)

Could have fun with guitbasses and bassitars as well
Whats tuning for this??
I have this tuned to open G. They are great for about any open tuning.
Doesn't you template start to look a little small after all abuse it takes while shaping the parts being built?
Noice.
Thanks!
Nice And Easy ' IF ' You have a garage or workshop full of
TOOls AND Machinary !!! 😂
For sale?
It will be if i have it after the guitar show on March 26th.
southpaw!
Yeah!
Really nice result. Of course now that we have met your cat Internet law requires that you tell us his/her name.
Come on Jeff build a lefty and give us a good demo. Even upside down that sounds good.
Most of us don't have fancy tools and aa full workshop

Or How to make a cheap cigar box guitar using thousands of dollars worth of power tools 😅
Why not just build a solid-body guitar that will fit in the cigar box and glue it on?
You could do that too. I have made a 6 string CBG that is basically an electric guitar that fits into the box.
