Glenn I have another overlooked preamp to give you a ton of different sounds. The Sansamp PSA 1.1. I highly recommend it. You can use it with or without a cab sim and it sounds great either way. Also a side note the PSA 2.0 pedal version does NOT compare even though sansamp claims it is the same circuitry. I measured the frequency response of both of them and the pedal s does not have as wide of a frequency response due to the high and low frequency roll off filters. The PSA 1.1 has a wider frequency response that makes it sound a lot better.
I wish you and your wife, a speedy recovery and quick hospital discharge. I’m a rockin healthcare provider who loves your content and I’m gonna buy this MP one because of your recommendation. I’m using Scarlet focusrite into GarageBand and I’m stuck in mono hell. I believe this could cure that issue and tighten up my tone. Any thoughts?
Glen, there's no need to apologize for your style and delivery. You built this channel on being who you are, and the vast majority of us wouldn't have it any other way. Those of us who have more than two brain cells to rub together know exactly where you're coming from. Fuck the haters and anybody else that would have you tone it down. You be you and the people that matter will keep watching.
that was my first real rig. ada mp1 and an alesis quadreverb. i sold it and bought a mesa boogie. the high gain tones were great, but the cleans were lacking. ended up getting a fender twin and using an epicenter audio valveboy for crunch and high gain. now i just play two rocks.
Nothing wrong with snarky, it’s one of things about your channel that gives it character and keeps me coming back Nembrini plugins are all pretty damn good. Igor used to do all the amp sims for brainworx
Hey Glenn, I'm writing this to let you know that although I'm not a subscriber, your new video just popped up on my feed. That means what we did while you were away worked. I, like many more, played your videos in the background for countless hours to stop the algorithm from pulling the plug on your content. Glad you're back. Best
I'm not a professional guitarist by any means, I mostly just play in a friend's band for fun. I'm far from picky when it comes to the tone I'm using, but I was super impressed with what was showcased in the video. I saw the link for it in the description and thought "Alright, time to see how much money I'd have to throw out if I wanted this thing", expecting maybe a couple hundred bucks, only to find it on a great sale. God damn. Bought it immediately. Thank you for the great showcase, Glenn!
That snare is CRACKING! I LOVE that sound. Reminds me of the snare on "Operation: Mindcrime", which is one of my absolute favorite albums with regard to tones, mix, production, everything!
Got a first year ADA MP1 sitting right next to me . Bought it in 91 for $150 or something crazy. I’ll never get rid of it . Best to you and your wife, friend
Glad you're back Glenn! Also glad to see Nembrini getting some love on here. I absolutely LOVE their plugins and have bought ALL of them. Definitely well worth it !
I agree: Just be yourself and do what you like, and just use everything that inspires you and gives you the guitar sounds that make you feel happy! Happy new year!
Wow didn't expect you'd bring out the ADA stuff! I absolutely love all the records Extreme and Queensryche put out using the ADA, so interesting to hear one of these beasts in a modern metal context :)
I hope you’re seeing a huge spike in playlist action since you asked us! I have been running playlist after playlist nonstop since you announced you were stepping back for a bit to help your wife progress through her recovery. I hope she is getting better with each passing day. We are all pulling for the both of you! Love ya, man!
@@dionr1168 For the Black album it was a blend of their Mesa IIc+ amps along with Bob Rock’s Jose modded Marshall SLP through a Marshall 1960 cab with V30s. But until then the amp James used was just the Mesa IIc+ after his Marshall got stolen before recording RTL. I swear though that the other day I heard a hint of a Rockman on one of the songs on the Black Album While writing this comment, I did find an article saying the MP1 was used on the black album I believe through the mesa’s power amp and into the V30 loaded marshall cab, but it doesn’t say whether that was blended in with everything else or used for more specific purposes

Happy New Year Glen!! I hope your wife gets better soon. I wish you two all the best in 2025. Keep taking care of her and we will all keep the channel alive.
Hey brother...hope things are getting better for you and your family. Prayers for you and your wife my friend..in the middle of many family catastrophes at the moment and it is really tough to keep on keeping on sometimes..stay strong brother.. keep fighting 🙏♥️🤘
A great vid Glenn! The MP-1 is all over the first Smashing Pumpkins album iirc, and I always liked that saturated early 90s rock sound. Underrated for sure. I think ADA reissued it in stompbox format a few years ago, but I couldn't find many clips of it in action so I've no idea how close it gets to an original unit. From what I've heard here, I think I'll just get the Nembrini version and save myself a fortune instead! Best wishes to you and your wife, and happy 2025!
Snarky & sarcastic is part of the Glen Fricker experience lol. That’s apart of your character that I like the most, and it’s the best man!! Glen, we’ll always be there for you and your family because of who you are. Someone who’s always giving so much to the guitar community and trying to save us gear heads some serious cash. Damn that tone is fantastic!! Your A/B shootout sold me. Headed to the Nembrini store because an actual ADA is $500-600 used on Reverb right now. I'm good with paying $30 for a plugin. Good to see you, man!
Glad to see you're back Glenn (even if it's just a video here and there for now)! I hope your wife gets to feeling better very soon, and thanks for all the free information you've given us over the years!
That last tune inspired by Queensryche's Operation - Mindcrime was more than awesome. What a banger of an album !! Merry Yule and a Happy New Year for you and your family. I wish your fiance a full recovery. Hugs from Spain.
Bought the plug-in a few years ago. It doesn't only get all the three channels right, but also the delay and chorus are pretty spot on for those instant clean and lead sounds. I also have the hardware unit, but it's been in storage for ~15 years.
Fun video and I love you showed a clip of a Karmann Ghia as a 'classic car'!! Had 3 of them myself ages ago. Been watching for a while but now a new subscriber, all the best to you and your wife!
Glad to see a new video from you, Glenn! As stated previously by another viewer, our collective effort to keep the youtube algorithm from burying your channel seems to be working - at least from my perspective. Every time I open up TH-cam now, I am pleased to see one of your videos is right there as a suggestion for my next watch. All the best to you and your family ❤
That's a killer tone to be fair, agree on sick of hearing everyone with same setup, nothing wrong with breaking away from "the norm" Much love Glenn to you and yours
Once again, another great tip, at a serious discount to boot. Thanks, Glenn! I had the opportunity back in the day to play over an actual MP-1 of a friend of mine, who was a Metallica nut (like I was in those days), so I know my way around it, even if I never owned it myself. But what I've always been after, was Nuno Bettencourt's Pornograffitti sound, which is all MP-1. I remember working on an Extreme show (all of them the nicest guys when you met them backstage; even had a talk with Nuno while they were waiting for their bus to drive up), and he didn't have anything else in his rack besides a few effects and the obligatory power attenuators and wireless units. But his amp sound and phasing/flanging all came out of the MP-1. I just don't remember what kind of power amp he used. Could've been ADA's own power amp unit, another tube/solid state hybrid, IIRC. Anyway, when I fired the MP1 Pro up, I heard it react the same way the original unit did. I knew that sound, that graph doesn't lie (not that I doubted that, mind you). As for the Nembrini guys : they're a generous bunch. If you sign into their Audio Central app, you get a ton of very usable free stuff (stomp boxes, rack effects, a tuner,...), including a standalone rig app where you can load all of their gear in a serial chain. I'm hoping they'll update that eventually so you can customise the routing to suit your own needs, including multiple inputs. But for general purpose guitar stuff, you don't need more than this. And they also have sims for the Mesa TriAxis and the Marshall JMP (which I'd love to stack up against the one in Amplitube for comparison), all on sale for ridiculous money. Definitely a lot to check out. Besides the awesome Neural DSP Mk. II C+(+) suite (been playing with that one every day since I bought it; it may appear limited, but I'm still not done with all its possibilities and it sounds like a beast) the best purchase this year.
The demo track does a great job in capturing that Queensryche vibe. I remember a guitar magazine giving away a so-called dream rig that included an ADA MP-1. Another popular unit at the time was made by ART, the SGX 2000 Express. And bringing up the rear was the DigiTech GSP 2101. I was too much of a novice at the time to invest in that kind of gear, but it seemed ridiculously high-tech and god level at the time.
Best wishes from us here in Greece Glenn. We wish 2025 brings a speedy recovery for your wife, and best of health for both of you! Now its time for an SSS video marathon! See you next year!
Hey Glenn, it's so good to see you! I hope Julie is doing better, you're in my prayers!!! I don't really pray if I'm being honest but I think about you both often. Please keep us informed, I'm sure I'm not the only one concerned. I hope Julie is able to go home soon!!!
We used to slave an Ampeg bass amp to the ADA. As far as a little more backstory, it was Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert using the MP-1 that peak everyone's interest since of course in the 80s Satch was teaching around the Bay Area, and of course Paul Gilbert is Paul Gilbert (so there's your Racer-X Scott Travis to Judas Priest connection to the ADA). Fun work horse used in conjuction with a SPX-90 too. The best to you and your wife man! Thanks for the vid. Happy New Year Everyone!
Still playing my MP1! For extreme Metal, it doesn’t have enough gain, but running it coupled with my old Hughes&Kettner Tubeman which I midified, it is just great. Last time I reactivated it, I was completely thrown off by the completely backwards tone settings, when the mids seem to produce completely unexpected results etc, but I still love it. I feel alive, back in time, playing it. I’ll definitely HAVE to get this plugin!
I had ADA equipment in the '80's - was some of my favorite tones! Thanks for letting me know about Nambrini - I snapped up one of those MP1's and am looking forward to reliving the awesomeness that was ADA.
I've got a similar piece of gear, being the Zoom 9150 DSP. It's one slot, older than me, rack mounted guitar tube preamp with two banks of 99 (!) presets each. Playing around with it the last few months revealed the first thing to be learned: It is JUST A PREAMP. Had to come to terms with the fact that anything coming straight out of that wasn't going to sound that great. Plugged it into a Mooer Radar CabSim Pedal, and I am now having an entire world of sounds to dial in! The 9150 has built-in effects like EQ, Compression, Reverb, Modulation, and even supports expression pedals to control certain effects. And it also features 2 external effects loops. One is fixed, the other can be programmed to different positions between other signal processing in the preamp. There is almost no info about these old kinds of preamps, on TH-cam at least, and yet they offer such a wide range of possibilities! For around 200 bucks + an ampsim pedal or plugin. I'd be realy interested in seeing you review it, Glenn! All the best to you and your wife. May she recover well!
@@joblickhan6470 I checked it after replying, because I recently learnt about it. Apparently he's been using a Zoom 9030 since the 1990s for demos, but not for recording.
Had the video playing thru my truck speakers while i was taking my kid to practice this morning. I couldn't hear a difference between A and B. Sounds like Nembrini nailed it!
@10:00 I was sitting here not being able to tell the difference, thinking we need to see the freq response and maybe a 180 faze shift to see what is going on. Tnx Glenn, glad to see you getting back to a bit of normal.
I've had an ADA MP1 hardware unit for 4 years and I love it! Instant hair metal tone. I run it into a Marshall Valvestate power amp and that too adds a bit more flavor
Hey Glen, that’s a nice little throwback for sure! I’ve been having some fun with it for the last hour. It brought back some great memories of a good friend of mine who used one of these back in the day. We used it often when we were hanging out daily doing the guitar buddy thing. That said, while it’s definitely fun and nostalgic, the modern gear absolutely eclipses it. There’s no way I’d choose it over a 5150 or the countless other options available today. I even did an A/B comparison with the Neural DSP Soldano plugin I’ve been using recently, and while the ADA mp1 holds its own, it’s just not in the same league as the modern stuff. Even a lot of cheap stuff. If it's what I had I could make it work, but the tools we have now are just unquestionably superior.
Hi Glenn! I've been following you for about few years, I'm actually an electronic music producer (originally from Turkey and living in Liverpool UK for last 6 years) trying to get into more metal stuff and thanks for the constant inspiration! Also, so glad to see you back!
Good to see a new to us video from you Glenn. The plugin sounds great too, I've always liked your intentionally going out of your way to try different tones because I've wanted to get away from the same sound and using the same gear as everyone else myself. Snarky or not and I get your refreshed perspective, it's good to see you back with a new video 🤘🏻
Hey man, I haven't watched any of your video for a while since you said you had family matters to deal with. I hope you had a good Christmas and that things are all good or improving your end. Don't feel that you owe us anything. We will all be here for you when you come back.

Man! it is a relief watching you deal with the mundane! A wonderful great FU from the bottom of my heart!
Glad to see you back, Glenn!
I’m excited about the new Glenn ⚡️
Glad to see you posting again Glenn! Hope all is well with you and your family.
Best wishes from us here in Greece Glenn. We wish 2025 brings a speedy recovery for your wife, and best of health for both of you! Now its time for an SSS video marathon! See you next year!
Always here for the snark. Cheers for this! Applicable to my ambient and Industrial stuff (believe it or not,)All the best to both of you!
Love to see some new material. Love you Glenn!
Picked it up yesterday. It's my new favorite!
Awesome! Would love to see same type of video for JMP-1 and triaxis! Bring back the classic tones!
Great to see you back. Glenn!
I had ADA equipment in the '80's - was some of my favorite tones! Thanks for letting me know about Nambrini - I snapped up one of those MP1's and am looking forward to reliving the awesomeness that was ADA.
Hi Glen , ive been watching you for years and enjoy your show . I sincerely hope your wife gets better soon👍
I had one in 90's loved it! The 200w bipolar amp and pitch transposer with a Midiverb it was great
That's awesome! We are roughly the same age Glen, and that thing has the 80s sound perfect!
In our thoughts, Glenn - have a great New Year!
I've got a similar piece of gear, being the Zoom 9150 DSP. It's one slot, older than me, rack mounted guitar tube preamp with two banks of 99 (!) presets each.
Playing around with it the last few months revealed the first thing to be learned:
It is JUST A PREAMP.
Isn't that the Zoom that David Gilmour uses?
@riangarianga Just had a quick look around the internet. David Gilmour's rig seems to have been incorporating Alembic F-2B preamps, not the Zoom ones.
I like snarky Glen... but great to have new content as well and I shall be waiting when you guys are ready.Take care and happy new year mate!
Wishing your family healing during your time of discomfort. Sending thoughts and prayers for your wife. 🙏🏾❤️
Hey! I wanna sound like background music in the food court!
That line is so good it ought to be preserved in granite for all time 😂 Well played, sir!
Hi Glenn! I've been following you for about few years, I'm actually an electronic music producer (originally from Turkey and living in Liverpool UK for last 6 years) trying to get into more metal stuff and thanks for the constant inspiration! Also, so glad to see you back!
Glad to see ya back, even if it is a video you recorded earlier. Still hoping for a speedy recovery for your wife. Keep up the great videos Glen.
Smashing tones. All the best to you and your family, Glenn. Hope your wife gets better soon. Wishing you a prosperous 2025. ♥
Nembrini makes excellent plugins. I think the JMP-1 they do sounds spot on
Happy new year Glen and family.
FU very much Glenn, welcome back dude 🤟🏼🤘🏼✌🏼
Dude, I've been looking for something like this! Thanks!
Happy New Year to you and the wife.
