Glenn I have another overlooked preamp to give you a ton of different sounds. The Sansamp PSA 1.1. I highly recommend it. You can use it with or without a cab sim and it sounds great either way. Also a side note the PSA 2.0 pedal version does NOT compare even though sansamp claims it is the same circuitry. I measured the frequency response of both of them and the pedal s does not have as wide of a frequency response due to the high and low frequency roll off filters. The PSA 1.1 has a wider frequency response that makes it sound a lot better.

I've got a similar piece of gear, being the Zoom 9150 DSP. It's one slot, older than me, rack mounted guitar tube preamp with two banks of 99 (!) presets each. Playing around with it the last few months revealed the first thing to be learned: It is JUST A PREAMP. Had to come to terms with the fact that anything coming straight out of that wasn't going to sound that great. Plugged it into a Mooer Radar CabSim Pedal, and I am now having an entire world of sounds to dial in! The 9150 has built-in effects like EQ, Compression, Reverb, Modulation, and even supports expression pedals to control certain effects. And it also features 2 external effects loops. One is fixed, the other can be programmed to different positions between other signal processing in the preamp. There is almost no info about these old kinds of preamps, on TH-cam at least, and yet they offer such a wide range of possibilities! For around 200 bucks + an ampsim pedal or plugin. I'd be realy interested in seeing you review it, Glenn! All the best to you and your wife. May she recover well!

I recently listened to Hole's Celebrity Skin. I noticed that distortion didn't sound like a normal driven amp or a typical drive pedal. I looked up how they got it -- expecting it to be some 90s distortion pedal. Boy, was I wrong. It was such a crazy amalgam of an obscure amp that was around the studio and weird synth blending technique. The final result was a UNIQUE distortion sound. It didn't sound overly processed or like a synth. The synth actually functioned like an extra tone stack to precisely dial in the frequency. Imagine if metal production took such care in crafting original tones.

Thank you so much for talking about this. Sparked some inspiration to go looking for new sounds and tones. I don't play this style at all, but I'm going to try to lay off the 5150, 6505 for a bit to experiment.
I've had an ADA MP1 hardware unit for 4 years and I love it! Instant hair metal tone. I run it into a Marshall Valvestate power amp and that too adds a bit more flavor
Is that a Rick Beato signature guitar in the thumbnail? I clicked on the video based on seeing that guitar in the thumbnail but didn’t see it in the actual video. Anyway, looks like a nice guitar.
The ADA MP-1 was the gold standard back in the late 80's. I have one, and if it goes south, I'll be scouring the internet the next day, looking for another one.
Had the video playing thru my truck speakers while i was taking my kid to practice this morning. I couldn't hear a difference between A and B. Sounds like Nembrini nailed it!
Hey Glen, that’s a nice little throwback for sure! I’ve been having some fun with it for the last hour. It brought back some great memories of a good friend of mine who used one of these back in the day. We used it often when we were hanging out daily doing the guitar buddy thing. That said, while it’s definitely fun and nostalgic, the modern gear absolutely eclipses it. There’s no way I’d choose it over a 5150 or the countless other options available today. I even did an A/B comparison with the Neural DSP Soldano plugin I’ve been using recently, and while the ADA mp1 holds its own, it’s just not in the same league as the modern stuff. Even a lot of cheap stuff. If it's what I had I could make it work, but the tools we have now are just unquestionably superior.
Hi Glenn! I've been following you for about few years, I'm actually an electronic music producer (originally from Turkey and living in Liverpool UK for last 6 years) trying to get into more metal stuff and thanks for the constant inspiration! Also, so glad to see you back!
This thing sounds incredible! I"m one of the odd ducks in that I don't use a 5150 into greenbacks ever. I'm strictly using the amp simms in Cubase and I think my tones are pretty effing good! They don't sound like anybody else but me. Hope you lady is getting better, brother. My heart goes out to you!
Best wishes from us here in Greece Glenn. We wish 2025 brings a speedy recovery for your wife, and best of health for both of you! Now its time for an SSS video marathon! See you next year!

I had ADA equipment in the '80's - was some of my favorite tones! Thanks for letting me know about Nambrini - I snapped up one of those MP1's and am looking forward to reliving the awesomeness that was ADA.

Glad to see a new video from you, Glenn! As stated previously by another viewer, our collective effort to keep the youtube algorithm from burying your channel seems to be working - at least from my perspective. Every time I open up TH-cam now, I am pleased to see one of your videos is right there as a suggestion for my next watch. All the best to you and your family ❤
Proud admirer (and later owner) of the MP-1 since the late 80s here!!! It's been a paramount tool back in the day, when almost the whole of the guitar slingers we loved and admired (And I think you missed the Great, revered and much missed Vito Bratta in the list!) relied on it for a cutting-edge lead tone, and is really nice to know there's an MP-1 option for the current digital realm, and that it is so close to the original hardware one! Got to check it out (Although me myself am not too excited yet to ditch my hardware tools -maybe I'm a little bit too much old school, a.k.a. "Old", haha!!- gotta admit there has been a ton of advances in this area, with all the hardware units incorporating IRs and whatnot). The old 17 years old me thanks you a lot for this (And my current 52 years old me thanks you more for being an eye opener amidst the brainwashed media craze!). Hope everything is improving and under control. Oh, and F@#$ you, Glenn! Keep up the good work!!!!!
Still playing my MP1! For extreme Metal, it doesn’t have enough gain, but running it coupled with my old Hughes&Kettner Tubeman which I midified, it is just great. Last time I reactivated it, I was completely thrown off by the completely backwards tone settings, when the mids seem to produce completely unexpected results etc, but I still love it. I feel alive, back in time, playing it. I’ll definitely HAVE to get this plugin!
Once again, another great tip, at a serious discount to boot. Thanks, Glenn! I had the opportunity back in the day to play over an actual MP-1 of a friend of mine, who was a Metallica nut (like I was in those days), so I know my way around it, even if I never owned it myself. But what I've always been after, was Nuno Bettencourt's Pornograffitti sound, which is all MP-1. I remember working on an Extreme show (all of them the nicest guys when you met them backstage; even had a talk with Nuno while they were waiting for their bus to drive up), and he didn't have anything else in his rack besides a few effects and the obligatory power attenuators and wireless units. But his amp sound and phasing/flanging all came out of the MP-1. I just don't remember what kind of power amp he used. Could've been ADA's own power amp unit, another tube/solid state hybrid, IIRC. Anyway, when I fired the MP1 Pro up, I heard it react the same way the original unit did. I knew that sound, that graph doesn't lie (not that I doubted that, mind you). As for the Nembrini guys : they're a generous bunch. If you sign into their Audio Central app, you get a ton of very usable free stuff (stomp boxes, rack effects, a tuner,...), including a standalone rig app where you can load all of their gear in a serial chain. I'm hoping they'll update that eventually so you can customise the routing to suit your own needs, including multiple inputs. But for general purpose guitar stuff, you don't need more than this. And they also have sims for the Mesa TriAxis and the Marshall JMP (which I'd love to stack up against the one in Amplitube for comparison), all on sale for ridiculous money. Definitely a lot to check out. Besides the awesome Neural DSP Mk. II C+(+) suite (been playing with that one every day since I bought it; it may appear limited, but I'm still not done with all its possibilities and it sounds like a beast) the best purchase this year.
We used to slave an Ampeg bass amp to the ADA. As far as a little more backstory, it was Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert using the MP-1 that peak everyone's interest since of course in the 80s Satch was teaching around the Bay Area, and of course Paul Gilbert is Paul Gilbert (so there's your Racer-X Scott Travis to Judas Priest connection to the ADA). Fun work horse used in conjuction with a SPX-90 too. The best to you and your wife man! Thanks for the vid. Happy New Year Everyone!
I just sold one for three times what I paid for it in 93. Probably thanks to videos like this! Ran mine through a Alesis EQ and a Peavy Classic 60/60 power amp. It was my setup for 31 years! 🤘

Even a lot of cheap stuff. If it's what I had I could make it work, but the tools we have now are just unquestionably superior.
Bro I hit buy so damn fast. I've been wanting to fuck around with something like this for years!
Hi Glenn! I've been following you for about few years, I'm actually an electronic music producer (originally from Turkey and living in Liverpool UK for last 6 years) trying to get into more metal stuff and thanks for the constant inspiration! Also, so glad to see you back!
Just finished the video, that shit is deep man, I appreciate what you are doing, my hat's off to you
Fantastic. Get Well Soon Mrs Fricker 💪
Great to see you back. Glenn!
Glad to see you posting again Glenn! Hope all is well with you and your family.
Wow Glenn!
Just wow...
Thanks 4 the discount!
Bought it immediately!
Good videos and positive energy to you, your wife and show!! Thank you for all you do.
See you next year!
thank you glen. for everything.
Good to see a new video Glenn. Looking forward to more as your schedule allows.
Glenn sir you have given me an idea for some videos after watching this one!! Thank you so much sir!!!
Happy New Year Glen!! I hope your wife gets better soon. I wish you two all the best in 2025. Keep taking care of her and we will all keep the channel alive.
All the best to you both!
Glad to see ya back, even if it is a video you recorded earlier. Still hoping for a speedy recovery for your wife. Keep up the great videos Glen.
The second i signed in this morning, this was the FIRST video in my recommendations!
The algorithm has NOT forgotten you !
I had ADA equipment in the '80's - was some of my favorite tones! Thanks for letting me know about Nambrini - I snapped up one of those MP1's and am looking forward to reliving the awesomeness that was ADA.
Hey Glenn, it's so good to see you! I hope Julie is doing better, you're in my prayers!!! I don't really pray if I'm being honest but I think about you both often. Please keep us informed, I'm sure I'm not the only one concerned. I hope Julie is able to go home soon!!!
Fun video and I love you showed a clip of a Karmann Ghia as a 'classic car'!! Had 3 of them myself ages ago. Been watching for a while but now a new subscriber, all the best to you and your wife!
Great video. I've been a fan of Nembrini for quite a while. Their JCM800 and Double Verb sims are a staple in my set up.
FU very much Glenn, welcome back dude 🤟🏼🤘🏼✌🏼
Happy New Year and quick recovery to your wife.
Love to see some new material. Love you Glenn!
Great content Glenn - never change man, never change.
Picked it up yesterday. It's my new favorite!
Thanks Glenn! Love to see when you endorse plugins/gear. Always looking to try something new
I just sold one for three times what I paid for it in 93. Probably thanks to videos like this! Ran mine through a Alesis EQ and a Peavy Classic 60/60 power amp. It was my setup for 31 years! 🤘
