These transformations are super cheesy, but I sincerely love that they tried to do their own thing - they weren't just copying the original series' choreography, and in some cases like Venus, they were tailored to fit the character's backstory within the show. They'll always hold a special place in my heart for that. That, and the fact that the character's hair actually changes when they transform. Best change.
As a 36 year old woman who grew up on the original SM early 90s in ASIA, not America, I honestly thought when PGSM came out, it was exactly how I had imagined live action SM would look like as a child of early 90s. I love the campy, cheesy feel to it. The nostalgic Power Rangers effect. And of course, the rawness of cringe. This is exactly what my 8-year old self would've loved.

@@undertakenheart the dark Mercury arc was super interesting and the character of Venus is so much different than the anime; she’s a lot more of a loner and won’t get close to the girls due to certain circumstances. The character of princess serenity is also suuuuper different than the anime and manga as well.
I love how they give Sailor Venus a special transformation. As the leader of the 4 scouts she also has her own cat guardian, Artemis and she’s also known for her other alias as Sailor V. She also pretended to be Princess Serenity to hide Sailor Moon’s identity to the enemies. She is my favorite character ever since.

In the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal, Sailor Venus was the leader of the Inner Sailor Guardians and would impersonate her princess (since she resembled her the most), Serenity/Sailor Moon to keep her from harm.
One of the best things about pgsm is that you can see the special effects team gradually learn what they're doing. We start out with Usagi's noodle hair and then we get to Minako's transformation and it's gorgeous
Fun fact: in the behind the scenes making special of PGSM Ayaka revealed that she got to work with the team when it came to her transformation because there were a lot of shoots where she had to film separately from the other girls

This actually makes sense because in the anime, I just don’t understand how they dont know who each other are. Same hair, same eyes etc. These transformations seem more realistic. Well... it is a live action after all.

(everyone laughs at Tuxedo Mask, but I personally can't with Sailor Luna, it's just so weird xD) I also love how they incorporated the story in this show, especially the whole Dark Mercury storyline (she became one of my favorite characters after that) and the whole Princess Serenity being kind of crazy! The only thing I would change if I could remake this show would be to make Sailor Luna an adult and not a child (but I guess they were going for Luna to take the place of Chibiusa, but that's just my guess), and also at the end when the Inner Senshi get their weapons, to give them the Talismans from the Outer Senshi as a sort of reference to them since they don't appear, apart from that it would simply to update the CGI!

After hearing recommendations online, I ended up binging this series. I thought it was going to be all hilariously bad (some of the early editing choices really made me laugh) but now that it's over, I really thoroughly enjoyed it. It definitely endeared itself to me. There were some real stand out performances as well - Mars breaking down, Usagi as Princess Sailor Moon? Brilliant. I'm going to hold this series in my heart, truly!
I'm I seriously the only one that actually likes this series? Yes the affects aren't the best considering this was made in the 2000s but the plot in my opinion is absolutely amazing and it's a really unique approach to a Sailor Moon series. Also the merchandise for this show are absolutely beautiful and come on a Dark Sailor Mercury?!?!?! That's like my fanfiction dreams finally came true and it's soooooooo unique!!!!!!!!!!! I love PGSM.
Agreed. I think it has the best plot and character development of all the iterations of Sailor Moon. The characters in Sailor Moon Crystal on the other hand were bland and one dimensional IMO.
For realz! The American Live-Action Sailor Moon would have 16-17 year old girls playing the Sailor Guardians and a younger girl playing Human!Luna/Sailor Luna. If I was cast to play any of the main girls, Sailor Moon is my go-to. I would picture Arnold Schwarzenegger aka the Terminator playing Tuxedo Mask.

I really wish PGSM got more love. Naoko Takeuchi helped make the show, she was involved in it. It starts out really corny but has genuinely emotional moments. I've cried watching PGSM. I love this show so much HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I LOVE USAGI'S HAIR HEART!?!
It's basically shot at 30 interlaced, which is essentially 60fps. If you ever look at any 30fps interlaced video you can see what appears to be combing in the frames which is essentially 2 frames in one called "fields". On a standard TV (good old fashioned CRTs) each field is played separately, at 60fps. The DVDs were 30 interlaced, which is where I ripped these from. I just used QTGMC deinterlacer to turn each field into a full frame. If you have the original DVDs and play them back on a DVD player they will play back at 60fps on any TV. I don't know if most of that made any sense xD but you can google interlacing and how it works if you need a better explanation.

I actually like these transformations cause if the Sailor Scouts or any super hero was real, i will think of them as these transformations. Just for the reason that you don't see very often, or really that common a girl with blue hair or yellow hair with an interesting hairstyle like Usagi. It would be very hard for the enemy to recognize these girls if they don't transform. So props to that🔥🔥🔥
However they’ll transform in front of the bad guys and constantly refer to each other by their civilian names. Despite the 90’s anime using their magic disguises them reasoning to explain why no one recognizes them, the girls in there are smarter. They don’t transform around anyone else except each other and refer to each other by their Senshi name. (I haven’t read the manga in some time and only saw a few episodes of Crystal so I can’t attest for those versions on if they’re like the 90’s name or live action version with this stuff)

I also love how they incorporated the story in this show, especially the whole Dark Mercury storyline (she became one of my favorite characters after that) and the whole Princess Serenity being kind of crazy!
The only thing I would change if I could remake this show would be to make Sailor Luna an adult and not a child (but I guess they were going for Luna to take the place of Chibiusa, but that's just my guess), and also at the end when the Inner Senshi get their weapons, to give them the Talismans from the Outer Senshi as a sort of reference to them since they don't appear, apart from that it would simply to update the CGI!

After hearing recommendations online, I ended up binging this series. I thought it was going to be all hilariously bad (some of the early editing choices really made me laugh) but now that it's over, I really thoroughly enjoyed it. It definitely endeared itself to me. There were some real stand out performances as well - Mars breaking down, Usagi as Princess Sailor Moon? Brilliant. I'm going to hold this series in my heart, truly!

I'm I seriously the only one that actually likes this series? Yes the affects aren't the best considering this was made in the 2000s but the plot in my opinion is absolutely amazing and it's a really unique approach to a Sailor Moon series. Also the merchandise for this show are absolutely beautiful and come on a Dark Sailor Mercury?!?!?! That's like my fanfiction dreams finally came true and it's soooooooo unique!!!!!!!!!!! I love PGSM.
Agreed. I think it has the best plot and character development of all the iterations of Sailor Moon. The characters in Sailor Moon Crystal on the other hand were bland and one dimensional IMO.

I really wish PGSM got more love. Naoko Takeuchi helped make the show, she was involved in it. It starts out really corny but has genuinely emotional moments. I've cried watching PGSM. I love this show so much

This is amazing. I've never seen this at 60fps.
I know that video tape shoots at what appears to be 60fps, but it's interlaced 30fps. This is cool.
It's basically shot at 30 interlaced, which is essentially 60fps. If you ever look at any 30fps interlaced video you can see what appears to be combing in the frames which is essentially 2 frames in one called "fields". On a standard TV (good old fashioned CRTs) each field is played separately, at 60fps.
The DVDs were 30 interlaced, which is where I ripped these from. I just used QTGMC deinterlacer to turn each field into a full frame.
If you have the original DVDs and play them back on a DVD player they will play back at 60fps on any TV.
I don't know if most of that made any sense xD but you can google interlacing and how it works if you need a better explanation.

I actually like these transformations cause if the Sailor Scouts or any super hero was real, i will think of them as these transformations.
Just for the reason that you don't see very often, or really that common a girl with blue hair or yellow hair with an interesting hairstyle like Usagi.
It would be very hard for the enemy to recognize these girls if they don't transform. So props to that🔥🔥🔥
However they’ll transform in front of the bad guys and constantly refer to each other by their civilian names. Despite the 90’s anime using their magic disguises them reasoning to explain why no one recognizes them, the girls in there are smarter. They don’t transform around anyone else except each other and refer to each other by their Senshi name. (I haven’t read the manga in some time and only saw a few episodes of Crystal so I can’t attest for those versions on if they’re like the 90’s name or live action version with this stuff)
