@@ucvuminh5351 I was living in japan at the time. They started off with CGI for Luna and Artemis, then switched to hand puppets, and pulling the doll cats with fishing line. Finally they had a 10 year old girl playing Luna. Yeah, low budget. But they made it work. It's a great series.
After seeing this series, i noticed that, it kinda looked like they changed their plans for it about half-way through. In the beginning, it was very similar to the manga version, but about half-way through, they introduced a dark mercury, sailor Luna, and Princess Sailor Moon who's Yandere for Endymion. Princess Sailor Moon looked like an alternate version of Super Sailor Moon, and Sailor Luna had a different voice from the plushie version of her, which kinda makes me wonder if they planned to have a Sailor Luna at first, as it would have made more sense if they made Sailor Luna be the voice for the plushie as well in that case. They also, at that point, started introducing attacks that the senshi wouldn't usually know until the next arc, like Shine Aqua Illusion, Burning Mandala, Rolling Heart Vibration. It might have all been intentional from the beginning, and either way, i love this version of the story, but it's food for thought.
It's possible, that originally they were going for a merge in storyline by combining aspects of the Black Moon arc. Especially considering Rina Koike (Sailor Luna's actress) went on record saying until the costume fitting she had been preparing to portray Chibiusa. Little background details of this remain even in the final product such as Beryl's increasing resentment to Queen Metalia, Far more so compared to the manga and Crystal. Her resentment to Princess Serenity even comes off as almost reasonable (emphasis on almost obviously it's not truly justified) but it's a character arc which culminated in her retort to Usagi after the Metalia possessed Endymion had to be killed by Sailor Moon and eventually choosing to 'die' with Jadiate who is revealed to have loved her since the original silver millennium. A notion that probably feels like it comes out of nowhere but a rewatch shows he alone always held her in high regard compared to the other generals who were truly bound.
In a live action series like this, Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, et cetera, the battle scenes and superheroics are used to emphasize and reflect the drama and growth of the characters. And, to that point, the heroes are shown growth through gaining new powers, weapons, members, upgrades and attacks. If you've ever paid attention to Power Rangers, they're CONSTANTLY getting new Zords or Weapons. Sailor Moon, as a franchise, doesn't have much in the way of weaponry and toyetic vehicles, but they do have plenty of powers and attacks. So they used as many as they could while staying within the first arc. I'm sure that if they had gotten a second season, they would have combined the Dark Moon and Heartsnatchers into one plot. Basically, giving the Dark Moon Vlan the Heartsnatchers motives on top of their own and removing the "time travel from the future" aspect of them. Because that would lead to Chibi-Usa, and doubling down on candy-themed child actors is the worst idea. So since they already had Sailor Luna, just skip Rini altogether. Making the Dark Moon Clan a witch coven from the Silver Millennium out to resurrect the "God of death" would give the four remaining senshi a terrible time. Add to that the arrival and appearance of three more antagonistic senshi that seem far more callous and brutal than Sailor Venus or Princess Sailor Moon ever was! But they would appear after the Spectre Sisters have been lost. Around episode 20. But something like that would mean an extreme expansion of the cast. Not only would they be bringing back the four senshi, Mamoru, Naru, Luna, Artemis, Motoki and Sailor Luna. But replacing Beryl, Mio, and the 4 generals with the 4 Spectre Sisters, Rubeus, Esmeraude, Sapphire, Diamond, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Hotaru. So they lose 6 regulars and gain 12. And THAT would take a lot of money! Sailor Moon, sadly, doesn't make as much for a show like this. Because lots of shows like this end up paying for themselves by way of toys and merchandise. And outside of role-play toys or dolls, Sailor moon doesn't have anything else like vehicles, play sets, robots, etc to make toys out of. They could do dress-up bows, tiaras and Flower-belts/Love-Me Chains. And Sailor Moon's various wands, compacts
This was such a criminally underrated show! Sure it had some cheese to it similar to that of the Power Rangers franvhise, but it was a good retelling of the original Dark Kingdom story arc It was not a straight-up adaptation though, as it changed some of the characters in a good way. It also introduced some things that carried over to later iterations, such as the Crystal anime.
Rodimus75 all true. TBH it always felt like Princess Sailor Moon was kind of a Brat! She destroyed the world twice when Endymion died. That’s unlike Princess Serenity who’s kind and loving.

Sorry Spoilers, i mean, this show is old, but if you haven't seen it and want to, im putting out some spoilers. To this day, this is my favorite iteration of the story, it was a bit difficult to get past the live action aspect of it at first, but once i got used to that, i found it very enjoyable. I know that the Princess Sailor Moon thing is a bit controversial because it's wierd how they can be the same person, but not at all the same person. In this version, she's basically a Yandere for Endymion. I had my own thoughts on that too. The reason she became cold is because of the trauma of losing Endymion, so i wonder if when Usagi awakened as the Princess, if the trauma returning to her would have been too much to bear that it became a split personality disorder. It was shown that Usagi was capable of showing the same kind of anger, as there was an episode where she was feeding metalia's energy and not the princess. So, in a way, it was a blessing that her memories didn't fully integrate and instead had split her off. On the other hand, it made her a less controllable entity. I actually found this version interesting because it gave Usagi an internal conflict that wasn't usually apart of the series. Also, while the shittenou had different backstories, they didn't neglect to give them backstories, like in the 90's anime. While they weren't paired with the inner senshi, they also had to deal with the trauma of their past lives, Nephrite being the only one that couldn't remember, having to learn to live a normal life, and Jadeite actually choosing Beryl at the very end was very heartwarming in a way. Despite being controlled by Beryl, he actually had feelings for her after all that, choosing not to leave her side when it all crumbled in the end. Venus's story is alot more complicated in this one too. In this version she was a known Idol, rather than aspiring to be one. But she was afflicted to a terminal disease and since the surgery needed to potentially cure her had a really low success rate, she decided it wasn't worth her time as she needed to fulfill her duty as a senshi. Of course, this ended up being a very heart wrenching character arc as she would eventually realize that she wants to live as Minako, taking up the surgery, but in the end she died as Minako, a happy Minako. This is literally the opposite of the venus we usually know, but i feel it added alot to the story, it shows how being tied to the past can destroy you. Sorry for the long-winded comment, i'm just very passionate about this version of the story, i do wish it had continued, but i feel it ended with a very well-rounded note, with all the senshi being able to live normal lives, not having to worry about their destinies anymore. Which again, is very different from the usual story where they are destined to continue being senshi (which they actually wanted to in that version, so it's fine).
I remember the first time watching this show and when Minako died, I cried and then seeing Usagi crying, I cried even more. It was a mess like I haven't cried that hard before.
@@Kraglin09 Same. For me it was watching Mars slowly break down when she realized. Than followed with the whole group mourning in their room. Pgsm was really good with sad moments. I also remember crying a bit when dark mercury realized that she had killed her friend. Also at the end when mercury screamed out to Usagi as she was possessed by Serenity.
I can definitely agree there. There really is nothing like PGSM and IMO, it’s the best adaptation of the Metalia arc. It blends aspects from the original manga but at the same time doesn’t copy and paste verbatim. The new ideas they experimented with such as Dark Mercury, Princess Sailor Moon, and Minako’s overarching story were definitely highlights that they actually executed well. The Shinteou actually had better crafted arcs compared to the manga and 90s anime and not only that Usagi and Mamoru’s budding romance is way better than what the 90s anime did. Having them needlessly butt heads and argue under petty circumstances didn’t feel right. The two actually get to bond and treat each other as eventual equals and the chemistry is built well. I also have to mention how they executed the transformations and costumes well. It always felt weird how in the original manga, 90s, and Crystal that they all have their outlandish hairstyles and when they slap the uniform and tiara on no one can recognize them and most iterations explain this quite lazily. I like how they all look like normal Japanese girls and as soldiers, they don the iconic hairstyles and designs. Talking about it now. I actually have the urge to rewatch this series again.
When they were fighting Princess Sailor Moon and her soldiers, Inner Senshi also used weapons.. That’s something pretty unique in Live Action, and so, should not be left out.
Inner Senshi (and Outer Senshi) also used weapons in the manga and Crystal version: -Mercury Harp for Sailor Mercury. -Mars Arrow for Sailor Mars. -Leaves of Oak for Sailor Jupiter. -Love Whip for Sailor Venus. -Space Sword for Sailor Uranus. -Deep Aqua Mirror for Sailor Neptune. -Garnet Rod for Sailor Pluto. -Silence Glaive for Sailor Saturn.
@@mafyuki.sorry replying too late but not exactly the star tambourines but the weapons they made using them. Mercury’s water sword, Mars and Venus’s Daggers and Jupiter’s Spear
I think Moonlight attractive Attack is one of my favourite and underrated group attack that never went to the anime show. Wish it could be in the da made anime movie of Sailor Moon, I could be very happy to see this. Imo this attack is too underrated and need to be more affordable in the next shows or even fanmade movies.
What are you talking about? This show wasn't "discontinued." This show was super popular in Japan when it came out, and it ended with a movie! They had merchandise and even live musicals! The DVDs were extremely coveted and hard to find! It's only in the west where many people didn't know about it until later years, and they think it's funny due to ignorance and the fact that they've never even watched it.
Sailor planet attack! is actually not a bad visual. It lags behind the sparkling effects of the anime because, well it's with live people and cgi! It's as good a live adaptation as it gets to the anime's out-of-this-world imagery

It is wonderful that the female version of the hero tends to be a sexy theme, but this work does not become so, and is a serious live-action version of a traditional Japanese-style sentai hero story. From the selection of the five main members, new members were carefully chosen through auditions so as not to destroy the image of the original manga. It would have been very difficult to have five members of such high quality selected from among new actresses in their teens at the time. It is only now that we see how miraculous it was that these five girls were able to come together. The fact that the five of them are still close friends, and that they have two members who are now famous and popular actresses in Japan, proves that the production team had foresight and an eye for seeing the best in people. I would love to see this version remastered and reissued on BD software, of course for Sailor Moon fans around the world.

The HD looks amazing.
When they were fighting Princess Sailor Moon and her soldiers, Inner Senshi also used weapons.. That’s something pretty unique in Live Action, and so, should not be left out.
The Star Tambourines.
@Originals MLM archive Minako as Idol is also resembling Three Lights in Stars season.
Inner Senshi (and Outer Senshi) also used weapons in the manga and Crystal version:
-Mercury Harp for Sailor Mercury.
The only live action reboot we needed
It's good idea but they should cast someone who can be accepted by fans as next Keiko Kitagawa for Sailor Mars role or live action remake will flop.
Special effects's guy: how many special effects do you want?
Director: yes
2:36 Venus' weapon has more practical use even if shes out of combat, especially when she is alone and lonely at home...

I feel bad for this show because they were so underrated and they're toys didn't get sellings that much, and this got discontinued, oof
So wrong, this live action was so popular, it also had live concerts. I don't know where did you get that wrong information.
Your just a ugly hater of japan

Thank god for that... this shit its disgusting to see...
One of the best thing was my favorite Sailor Mars and played by Keiko Kitagawa.
I recognize her from Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.

Show had great character development. They really delved into the character's lives with many emotional moments.
The special effects appear to be cheesy but this series looks amazing
love sailor moon live action attacks 60fps
sue!
The most unintentionally funny stuff I have ever seen.
I lovvvve it. Nice Performance..of sailor moon..& friends. Always watching the serial on tv several years ayo.
Sailor planet attack! is actually not a bad visual. It lags behind the sparkling effects of the anime because, well it's with live people and cgi! It's as good a live adaptation as it gets to the anime's out-of-this-world imagery
The flexibility they had to have for some of these moves damn
I want to own this series on DVD / BluRay~ if only they’d remaster it or something x3
I'd wish Viz Media would license it for all to watch.
I love this show

Real Movie Version "Sailor Moon" Cast(JPN)
Sailor Moon / Princess Serenity (Usagi Tsukino) : Miyuu Sawai
Sailor Mercury / Dark Mercury (Ami Mizuno) : Rika Izumi
Sailor Mars (Rei Hino) : Keiko Kitagawa
Sailor Jupiter (Makoto Kino ): Miyu Azama
Sailor Venus (Minako Aino): Ayaka Komatsu
(Genre) Japanese special effects TV drama series
Broadcasting period: October 4, 2003 - September 2004
Original Story : Naoko Takeuchi
Planning :Naoji Kato (CBC), Tetsuya Watanabe (Dentsu)
Screenplay : Yasuko Kobayashi
Director : Ryuta Tazaki and others
Producer: Takayuki Okazaki, Toshiyuki Takezawa
Production: Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting System, Toei
Looking at this footage now, it is very clear that the production team at the time took this live-action version very seriously.
It is wonderful that the female version of the hero tends to be a sexy theme, but this work does not become so,
and is a serious live-action version of a traditional Japanese-style sentai hero story.
THIS IS AMAZING

But she only use Mercury Aqua Cyclone, Mecury Aqua Storm, and Mercury Aqua Blizzard in one episode only.

the only i want to ask is why their legs are short😂
😅 The average height of girls from Japan is not so high, so...
Their legs aren't short. Its normal. The long legs is the anime style, and we used to it so when we see this video it feels weird

Pretty good special effects for the time.
You know you mean business when your power lies on the cosmic balance force you do with one foot on the ground and the other is stretched with the sole to the back of you head, just to use a magic one dollar toy!
This was broadcast 21 years ago. It is a Japanese drama made for elementary school girls. It was well-reproduced with the special effects technology of the time, considering the low budget. 😊From Reiya's sister
