- There are so many challenge maps in the Batman Arkham series. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Knight and Arkham Origins all have challenge maps and some are better than others. I wanted to take a look at the 5 worst Combat challenge maps in the Batman Arkham series and explain why I'm a fan of them and what makes them so bad in comparison to the other maps. With a new Batman game being teased online, there's never been a better time to look back at the games. #BatmanArkham #batsuit #WBGamesMontreal

I really like Freight Train. I like how its more of an actual mission than just fighting respawning waves of enemies. And actual beating up Black Mask was cool.
I like how the map looks and I like the idea but I'm not a fan of the execution of it. It's honestly just way too hard to see when inside the cars and they spawn in more enemies off screen that weren't there before which makes it really hard to tell how many are in the car with you.
I feel like it’s only a great map when it’s tied with the other predator making it a cohesive
story
I love the idea as well. It kinda feels like the classic beat'em up from SNES era. But I wish it was longer, more polished, and better executed.
It's a great concept, but the side scrolling just makes it too hard to see or control anything. Especially the last car with Abrovamici is just downright frustrating since it's nearly impossible to dodge him.
@@theazureknight8975 dodging the big dude is no different than the rest of the game- backflip over him or, if you're really unsure, use a takedown on a goon for invincibility. I revisited this map for the first time in years yesterday and he was probably among the simplest parts of it. the map's zoomed-in 2D camera and and intrusive foreground detail gave me a lot more trouble than him.

I like the sections of the games where you can knock the enemies off the ledge into the abyss below lol
Shock and Awe and that train map are actually my favorite Combat maps. In S&A you can actually kill people, you can throw people off the ledge into the abyss which is certain death and if you time it right you can get all the goons to stay behind and get shocked. That map is fun to me because you can use the hazards against them.
The train map is fun to me because it has a story behind it, you're tracking down Black Mask on a train and you actually get to fight him, it is one of the few times in the entire Arkham series where you get to fight Black Mask in something dedicated to him and also the first time. In Origins he was replaced with Joker and then you see him later without the mask and in Knight you get this tiny DLC that restricts you to only play Red Hood but in Arkham City you can play as anyone and even make the challenge harder. To me, it is the only time in the series that Black Mask is treated with a semblance of respect.

Shock and awe is the part of the game where batman is allowed to break his no kill rule by yeeting thugs off of the edge.

The devs of the Arkham games have always underestimated the accidental or deliberate means by which we can get people killed.
I mean, the batmobile running over an unconscious thug's head in knight would definately crush the skull.

I never minded the freight train one too much, I thought it was an interesting change of pace for the concept, and while I wouldn’t rate it up there with anything like iceberg lounge, it was a fun thing to do every now and then

I actually don’t mind “Freight Train.” I do admit the 2.5D camera doesn’t work well with the Arkham gameplay, but it never bothered me enough for me to dislike the level. Plus the main reason I like the level is, well, I like Trains.
I actually really like freight train. It was a tribute to classic sidescrollers as well as older Batman games that also felt really badass as you fought your way through the train. The movement can be janky, but I really like it for what it is.
Also, the fight with Black Mask at the end was awesome.
In defense for Shock and Awe: I thought the concept was to complete the round before the ground eletrifies. I never had that problem and got 3 stars.
I was literally playing shock and awe while you were talking about it. Me personally, I like the idea of having to beat enemies within a time limit, or you get electrocuted

I think that the 2.5D Freight Train map may have been inspired by the scene in the 2003 movie "Oldboy". It was one man fighting in a hallway against all these goons and progressing further and further down to the other end, which was cool af.
A difficult challenge map is NOT a bad, a challenge is suppose to be difficult...
Now maps like the one with the electric pads in Arkham knight I consider a bad not because it's difficult but because it's a difficulty caused but the "limitations" in character moved. If they just took out the lasers then it would have been fine.
But remember... Hard is NOT bad.
Yeah I don't understand the "too hard = bad" either. We can argue that games are meant to be fun, not stressful, but the name is self-explanatory, challenge maps are meant to give you a challenge. Fun is no longer the focus, now it's the challenge. You can have fun with a challenge but where would the satisfaction be in completing a "challenge" that didn't challenge your skills at all? A player can get very frustrated in games like this, or for example in my case, in a soulslike, but that just means it's not the kind of game for me to have fun with. No one is forced to play after all.
Now, when there are response problems or glitches, that prevent you from improving your skills or beating the game requirements, it can be considered bad to me.
For me, the worst one is Crime Alley from Arkham Knight.
Mainly because the area is so small and cramped. Making it harder to get your barrings, and see which enemy you're attacking.
Genuinely love all of your Batman videos. Hope to see some live videos of you playing all if the games in order with your mate/mates. Can't wait for your next video
Man, I really hated Shock and Awe (Extreme). That and Rumble in the Jungle (Extreme) were the last ones I managed to finish.

Can't argue with any of these choices! Shock and Awe for me is the dirt worst! Hated doing that level in the story mode, hated even more in the combat map.
I hate the don't get hit challenges in knight
Because they use cool maps but it's like my least favourite game mode
Finally someone feels my pain! It's even worse when they're connected to trophies like a Chill in the Air and the Curtain Falls.
Plus I've been playing many games, and I always get hit at least once. The only Arkham missions that make taking no damage easier, are the predator missions. Since those require hit and run tactics.

I'm sure some of them do but I'm honestly just a player. I doubt what I say matters at all to any company tbh 🤷♂️
The only other one that deserves to be on this list imo is Totally Insane from Asylum. Fighting the insane inmates is so insanely obnoxious since you can't beat them up normally. I hate it so much.
Freight Train is supposed to be an homage to classic beat em up arcade games like Double Dragon

I cant believe I found your channel last night, I've been playing the Arkham series since I was 5 (the year arkham asylum was released) I'm 15 now they're amazing games, brill videos XD
Destruction line was so annoying. I didn’t even manage to beat the part where you play it in the Catwoman DLC, so I had to look up how to do it.

You guys got shock and awe wrong. You're just supposed to stay in the middle platform and knock out all enemies before timer ends...
The timer is obnoxiously short on Shock and Awe extreme
One thing that really irritates me about these games is the fact that you can’t replay any of the story, I remember when I was 12 how much I wanted to replay most of the game.
Yeah I think you should be able to restart the game infinite times on one file. Even on Knight you just can't so once you unlock the 240% suit you can only use it in challenge maps and free roaming in a world you've done everything in already

In Knight they should have allowed for the occupied places to be reset a la Far Cry
wait... how is shock and awe a bad map? you’re not forced to move until the timer goes down! and when it does you lose immediately so those are some invalid arguments
It's a pain in the ass trying to get a decent combo and building up points while at the same time staying within the time limit. It's especially bad on the extreme version.
Xan Kin It takes practice though, I’ve been in your shoes, I use to despise this map as well, but after playing the franchise at least once a year since its release this map is really not as bad as some of the others throughout the series imo knight has some of the most frustrating

@@batmantheknight7862 I agree. They way overdid it on the difficulty, you have to take out like 3 knife thugs, 3 taser thugs, and 10 regular thugs in under a minute, which is so fucking frustrating.

The challenge map on the train always looked great and was a creative idea, but it just didn't work as a challenge map because of the fixed camera. It would have worked for a section in the game itself, but not as a challenge map.
In the riddler one from knight when I done it in the catwomen story I hated it I got so pissed the last round was so hard
Off topic but I would like to see games based off of villains like the Joker, Venom, Death stroke, and maybe even less popular villains like Lobo, and Black Manta idk just sounds like it could be fun

Agree with this list mostly, but I'd honestly switch the order on Heart of Darkness and Shock and Awe. The electric pads in HOD are more random and annoying. In SAA at least you know exactly where it's going to happen and you can easily beat all opponents before it happens.

@@batmantheknight7862 way to miss my point. I know that when the time is over on Shock and Awe that it's game over. I know that. But, you can easily avoid that by defeating all of Joker's thugs as fast as possible. Yes the electric pads only activate by sections at a time in Heart of Darkness. However, for someone like me who gets extremely high scores in this game I say Heart of Darkness is more difficult just because it can be potentially be due to a Titan henchman on top of the shifting electric pads in the 1st 3 rounds. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

I’m fine with destruction line in challenge maps, but in catwomans dlc story, I would die at least 5 times. On normal. Like, come on man.
make a video around the topic of “hardest arkham missions” and you could do the inverse of that, “easiest arkham missions”. (if you do make the video for the hardest list, please consider the last mission for azrael in arkham knight)

What are your thoughts on the rumors that a Superman game might be a series x launch exclusive and that next Arkham game will be a soft reboot?
For Superman I really doubt it but it's possible. That said, where that came from was sort of unreliable at least at first so I have a hard time buying into it. Doesn't seem like something Warner Brothers would do because they really never have, but I also understand Spider-Man set a precedent that maybe Xbox would throw boatloads of money to combat. as for Arkham, I think it's a mistake to reboot because there's years in the timeline that are still just left mostly empty. I wouldn't end up surprised if they did go that route, but I don't think it's a good idea.
I was playing on cats conundrum and I went to hit a red one like 5 inches away and catwoman flew across the map and hit a blue one far away, ending my 50x combo.
I can't even clear this level with Catwoman so fucking hard for me

Freight train, the utter idiocy of not having the camera centered on Batman all the time... I mean the camera does not keep up with your actions. Otherwise I think it's an OK homage to old school games.
Conundrum is OK, it's not like lasers or electrified floor in the way but it requires a slight a bit more thought to get it right. Only playable with Batman and Catwoman too so it's easily defeated. It makes perfect sense because obviously the riddler is behind it.
Overall, predator maps are a lot more fun than combat maps

Overflow on Origins will leave you in a BS camera angle in the corner every time you try a beat down
I actually like Shock and Awe, just not as a combat map. I like the cell and the fact how in the story Harley is sitting in the security tower watching and commenting but I can see how you can hate it.
Should've add the Iceberg Lounge from Arkham Knight because it's a downgrade. Not only there's obnoxious enemy types. The map is more smaller than the one in Arkham City.

My Favorite arkham map is Azrael's atonement in arkham Knight for 5 reason's. 1 it got me better at countering attacks. 2 it made me better at combat freeflows and use of gadget's. 3 made it so I understand how to counter the Enemies easier. 4 if I get Rusty with the combat I can always play azrael's atonement and work on getting better. 5 I always liked the idea of endless map's even though it's not completely endless.

Anybody else just despise the Arkham Origins ninjas? I think they throw off the flow of combat and are super glitchy in my last play through.
