  • Here’s a review of the Pfluger president underspin trigger spin Reel mated to 6 pound, J- braid braided line. Performance is really good - it’s about 25% better than the competitors in the marketplace from Zebco 33 gold series. It does still have some shortcomings and I wish these manufacturers would address and fix and make these reels incredible for performance value.

    I think $100 price point for this type of reel is totally reasonable; for a reel that would just blow everything else out of the market, I wish they would to the point where I am thinking of even creating my own fishing reel and marketing it. We’ll see if that could happen but for now, this is a recommended real over any of the other competitors. Even though I haven’t fished, the Daiwa series trigger spin yet. That might be coming up in a future video, we’ll see thanks - cheers.

    pflueger is the best triggerspin hands down . I bought myself a new zebco triggerspin for my birthday , i wound up throwing it into the lake because it just wouldnt cast . I went home and cleaned my old pflueger , I wont leave home without it .

    I just ordered one for my wife. I'm hoping it pairs well with a 5' ultralight and 4# mono for her. Shimano makes an open face reel with a trigger activated bail. Its simple and easy to use. I have two older ones that were higher end at the time. Not sure about the new ones but my older ones work well and are worth a try. I'm hoping once my wife gets used to the underspin she will give my Shimano a try. She thinks its to complicated, for now. Very little difference in the use of your new underspin and my older Shimano with a trigger. It's worth checking out the new model.

      The trigger on the bail was a big option on the reels from the 80's... I wish they would really bring that back on the higher end reels -- along with a self centering bail and those would be incredible. For the love -- we put a man on the moon in in the 60's... and the options we should have just don't exist... From what I've seen though for todays reels -- the triggered bail reels are either really big - or they are really low end of performance.

    I've been fishing for over 40 years and still don't understand why someone would need a reverse when you have a drag system. Or all you need to do is push the button and let the line out. A lot of the manufacturers are removing that because it's just another area for water and dirt to get in to the housing.

      Get one - they are cheap and if not liked you can return it or keep it in the car as a backup - use only mono - don’t use braid - not a good braid reel.

      @@jaylundberg1118I have one and gave it away. The lever mechanism doesn’t like being pulled too hard, or too little. And when you cast too hard, the lever actuates forward just enough to stop your cast short and you end up with a big “plop” from your lure slamming the water. Before I bought it, the reviews were promising. Don’t waste your $40.

    This my first time seeing the redesigned underspin. I have numerous older models. Gotta say the new one looks super cheap. Im guessing the innards are exactly the same but the older models looked much higher quality.
    I feel you on the weight. Real heavy.
    About that loose fit. You probably know this but the entirety of the internals are not anchored to the body in any way. The rear section is locked into the body by the handle and the drag wheel to a lesser degree.

    • @JSturr
      @JSturr  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment - I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge as I didn't know the extent of their internal design as you have described. I really wanted to buy last years model -- was going to order it online as it was about $15.00 cheaper than retail -- yet ... when I went to the Sportman's Warehouse the sales man pointed out to how the spool cover was totally enclosed vs. the older model ... and that really sold me in order to keep any dirt etc out of the driveline... everything else appears to be the same -- but as you mentioned -- the thing is so crazy heavy ... and their design cues are a bit flawed -- surprisingly flawed.

    • @davidnewton3064
      @davidnewton3064 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @JSturr the previous model has slots cut in the cone that give it the appearance of not being sealed. But there is a clear plastic cover inside the cone that goes behind those slots and I'm pretty sure it's sealed. Honestly, there's a gaping hole at the front of the cone where most of the contaminants enter so the difference is negligible.
      If I can find some older stock I'm going to buy as many as I can.

      Here they are on their web site -- www.pfluegerfishing.com/president-spincast-reel-1447418?variant=1430536 - for $29.99
      But -- help me understand why you think the older model is better -- other than the cutouts for maybe saving some weight ??

    • @davidnewton3064
      @davidnewton3064 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @JSturr the internals might be the same in every way. I'm mostly commenting about the aesthetics. The new model reeks of cost cutting. It looks cheap. The old model looked as premium as a closed face reel can be.
      I may buy a couple of both and do a comparison. Either way, this is one of the most fun reels to fish with. Thousands of rapid fire casts all day.

      I think it's a design issue - from what I've been told, the assembly just sits in the body of the reel and isn't attached to the body and so it has a tendency to move around. Go figure ...
