    Ys VI was technically my intro to the series back when it came out on PS2. I say technically because while it was the first Ys game I played I watched the anime adaptation of 1 and 2 several months prior and liked it, prompting me to get the game when I found out about it. I remember really digging it not just for the story, great art and music but also because it reminded me of playing Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening except more new player friendly.

      just found this video lol and this comment. yeah .. my first time with Ys series was on Ys 1-2 collection on psp. got it from gamestop and have loved it since. Legend of Zelda played a heavy part in me liking the series. the bump combat was different and the boss fights.. holy cow the boss fights.. they were extremely zelda heavy imo. I have been hooked ever since. just wish they would release Ys 1-2-3-5-6-7 on to consoles. It has been said recently from the games designers that they are planning on releasing older Ys games onto more modern consoles so here is hoping!!

    I recently beat Ys VI as well (last week) and it was great! I enjoyed the characters and great variety of lands explored during the nice adventure. It also has my favorite combat in the series (same as Oath and origins). I completely agree with the hands off approach of the game. It's simple enough of a game where figuring it out on your own is not difficult.
    I only have Ys 7 left to play in the series and can't wait to play it eventually. I'm in no rush because I'll have no more new Ys experiences after it and Ys X is likely quite a ways away.

    Despite still hating the game for the dash jump parts, this game was probably my favorite in the whole series with origins coming right after. Have to say though I started to really like this series because of the world building and it is the most fleshed out in this game. It answers a lot of questions about the lore and makes a whole lot more of them while at it. Disclaimer though, I have not played 9 yet so I can't know what they have done with the world in that one (hope they didn't completely toss out all of what they build through the years out the window like what they did with 8... not holding my breath though...)

    Looking forward to your inevitable video on Ys 9. I'm relatively new to Ys, I got Ys 8 about a year ago while waiting for CS4, it took me about 7 or 8 attempts to really get into it and honestly it wasnt until I found out that these Napishtim engine games were a thing. I got all 3, tried them out and played OiF first, then the Yunica run on Origin, then Ys 8. I had gotten to the point where you find and fight the killer and after that is when it finally grabbed me and I played it nonstop until I finished it last night. I should probably play this one, I'm at the point where you get off the first island and head over to the island of the humans, but after finishing Ys 8, I was craving more of that modern, epic, 40-50 hour shit so Ys 9 it is. Really loving it so far.

    So the dash jump.
    Today is the first day I played the game, and I got it in the first 3 minutes outside the village.
    You had trouble because your foundation was incorrect, so here's what ya do.
    You tap forward.
    You attack to lunge. You have close to a second after the tap to press attack. Get used to doing this part.
    Now, once you're in the middle of that lunge attack, you press jump.
    You don't do any sort of "same time" trickery, but the earlier you press jump once you begin the lunge, the further you'll go.

    I just finished my first Ys game, Oath in Felghana. I've been missing out for real. I've tried several times and Ys 8 just doesn't grab me. I keep playing in short little hour sessions but I quickly want to put it down and play something else. However, once I found out there were Ys games in the exact same style as Sky, I knew I had to get on board. I bought Origin to try it out, LOVED how it felt, and bought Ys 6 and oath in felghana immediately. I tried the first dungeon of all 3 and decided to play felghana first. As well as being the consensus "hardest" game in the series and as a huge souls fan, I think I made the right choice. I'm absolutely in love with the napishtim engine games, I'm playing Origin now just got to Epona or whatever her name is, on the Yunica(?)'s route. After that it's on to Ys 6, can't wait.

      You have to delay your Dash Jump though. Press the Directional button from which direction you wanted to dash jump. Next, after the 1-second delay after pressing the directional button, press the square and X quickly. However, you have to press square first then X.

      Between those and the Switch release in South Korea, it does mean the only real barrier to Western releases of the Crossbell duology is now the localisation. The technical work on porting them has already been done. The dream is very much alive!

      I discussed it on one of my old news videos. In theory the groundwork is all there for them, but it lies with a localiser to decide if it's worth the effort - at the end of the day they're not gonna do something that won't guarantee them a return.

    I thought it neat that just the other day, right after I completed Trails of Cold Steel 1, I decided to get back on Ys with Ys 6 and see this video soon after.
    Just for context's sake, I have completed the entire Liberl Arc, Zero, and The 1st Cold Steel. I decided to take a much needed break from Trails while I await Geofront's Trails to Azure patch, which is due out soon, maybe within a month and a half or sooner in a best case scenario.
    Actually I just wanted a reason to talk about my progress with the Trails Series.
    So forgive me if you can.

    I’m surprised you never brought up the legendarily awful PS2 CG intro for Ys VI it ain’t pretty look it up when you get a chance.

Luckily the original intro is still in the PS2 version it’s just hidden behind a cheat code. Dash jump really is the worst mechanic Falcom has ever invented and this game is overall rough around the edges. It does have a special place in my heart though as I like the setting and the characters. Plus the pacing of these older Napishtim games is so much better than that of Ys IX.

    This reminds me of that one weird DS Game with ponyfarm I have lying around. The bit with the dash jump. I once booted this game up, got to the first riding part.... and had no idea what to do. I have no idea how you play this game. It has touch controls, but I have never figured out how any maneuver during the riding sessions work. So I just put the game away and never touched it again. YS sounds like an amazing series, but I suck at action games, especially hard ones. So I'd rather just stick with Trails for now. I'm almost done with Sky SC.

    • @Evilriku13
      @Evilriku13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that may be, but remember: Fast Travel eases the game by removing any sort of obstacle that comes in ur way that u can negate by just teleporting back whenever. Did a mistake when fighting enemies and the game would punish you for it? Fast travel the problems away.
      I do value the risk reward that comes with it tho, and its not like the game doesnt have teleporters at all so it does help in that regard.

    • @Evilriku13
      @Evilriku13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also the PS2 version is tied with the PC version as the definitive one, as the PSP version is suffering from loading times extravaganza and the framerate suffers too. Otherwise content from the PS2 version is removed... like japanese voice acting or a bonus dungeon.
