    It would be interesting to see Jonathan‘s thoughts on the guns and upgrads from the Wolfenstein games. Alot of the guns are WW2 era German firearms with a more “Modern” designs. Personally I think the Schockhammer will break him, fully automatic 40 round 3 barrel shotgun.

    11:09 The Owen submachine gun has a more closed receiver compared to STEN guns meaning less mud and other stuff can get into then guns internal mechanism making the Owen more reliable. With the position of the Owen's magazine on top gravity helps the magazine function more reliably again making the gun more reliable. So this is probably the reason why the Owen gun was more popular among the Australian soldiers than the AUSTEN (Australian version of the STEN).

    • @nathansstuff1547
      @nathansstuff1547 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Was part of the reason it was made. Lot of Aussie troops were in situations where mud and dirt would get in their weapons and jam them. The design of the Owen gun stopped that from happening.

    I could be wrong (and I'm not the expert, Jonathan is!) but I thought that some (but not all) of the K-50Ms could be used with the 71-round drums just fine, since the early ones were actually just modified Chinese Type 50s, retaining the receiver and barrel, with the wooden stock exchanged for a more 60s appropriate pistol grip and the barrel shroud cut down and folded. I believe the slightly weighty "stock" part of the receiver was there to counterbalance the climb from the high rate of fire, as opposed to Sudayev's fix for removing the wood stock in his PPS which was to drop the bolt cycling rate.
    Obviously, this compatibility assumes that the user has extended the wire stock first... but given that the magazine well wasn't modified, so long there was a good fitting drum, less of an issue with Type 50s I believe, there's no reason this wouldn't be the case, right? Given how crude Jonathan claims this one is, perhaps it's a totally domestic made copy, which isn't as accurate and so might exhibit more serious fitting issues with the drum mags?

    Its not surprising but they actually got the Owen gun the right way round, unlike a certain high budget fps. Kinda surprised Jonathan didn't point it out as it wasn't too long ago since that video came out.

    In the Rhodesian Bush War, several Selous Scout teams came to the conclusion that their suppressed smgs lacked sufficient firepower and opted to rebuild captured AKs with suppressors, and manufacture subsonic ammunition (this required the bolt to be cycled for each shot). One RPD was cut down in size, the stock removed, and a lighter buffer system installed to reliably cycle subsonic rounds. Even though it was unsuppressed, it was allegedly quiet enough to confuse the enemy of its exact position.
    As for the early philosophy of the Sks, the Chinese on the other hand manufactured the rifle in large quantities alongside the AK to outfit their large military, and developed the Type 63 (mechanically a hybrid between the two), with detachable 20rd magazines and a full auto selector. The Type 63 was manufactured with better tolerances to act as sort of a Designated Marksman Rifle, but retained the full-auto capability to keep up with AKs in direct assaults.

      I think it was more than a Sten substitute. From what I understand our forces were relying on Stens until they eventually tested the Owen against it and a Thompson, and the Owen proved more reliable. The Owen was mostly ignored by the army before then.

      There's an interesting video history of it in Forgotten weapons, explaining that the basic design was a kit-bash gun made by Lt. Owen when he was a teenager before joining the military and a neighbor of his who was a relative newcomer to the gun manufacturer industry saw it and decided to try and make it into a functional gun, where it went through a lot of remakes as the Australian government didn't want to give the gun the time of day and made excuses to not have it on weapon trials, until it was decided to actually be allowed on trials wherein the Owen outperformed all the other SMGs, and thereafter it became Australia's and its allies main SMG weapon

    @ Jonathan - you need to add that subsonic ammo is basically turns your rifle into a pistol. Consider 220 grain 7.62x51 vs 230 .45 ACP. Subsonic rifle ammo, while much quieter, is also much less accurate and underpowered.

    The SKS seems almost like a Mosin 2.0. In that it was a generation behind for much of its history. But it was cheap enough, and enough of them existed, that they turned up everywhere any group of people needed a big pile of guns for the next 70 or so years after it was deemed inadequate.

    "Australia represent!" Owen Gun ("Digger's Darling" to some) was rejected originally by the Aussie Army who were relying on Sten guns however before his deployment to the Middle East he spoke to a local Lysaght steel plant manager. The company took interest in the design after conducting tests in September 1941 the gun was found to be more accurate and reliable than the Sten and Thompson designs available and production began.

    Idk, having fired an SKS, I'm glad they made them. It has a feel in the kick similar to a bolt action rifle like the Einfield when you fire it, but has much better control and ROF. I also personally find the sighting on it to be very intuitive. And the clunky beast just looks mean.

    4:43 I'm sure shotguns are effective way past 50 meters. The steel pellets might not be as tightly grouped as on a target 25-50 meters away, but those pellets aren't stopping on their own for at least 400 yards when fired from a 12 gauge shotgun. But you might be referencing the in game effectiveness here, which I would believe, because video games and film/television always underestimate or downplay the range of shotgun rounds.

    • @bradhaines3142
      @bradhaines3142 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      pellets lose all accuracy and any real steam past 300 yards. if youre using slugs they could definitely be lethal but youd be almost mortaring them in, and praying they hit what you aim at

      The range in the game where the shotgun remains useful is definitely over 50 metres, ive gotten kills with it above 90m, although it is always a bit of a surprise. I think the pellets are simulated reasonably well.

      @khemib 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shotguns in RS2 are pretty accurate to real life. Even if the probability of those pellets hitting drops by the distance they will still be travelling quite a bit, it all comes down to luck. Slugs function as they should too
