    I only received a sample of Walnut yesterday and I quickly saw why people speak so favourably about this one. I love some Noodler's inks such as Cactus Fruit, Saguaro Wine and Turquoise Eel, but some others such as 54th give me strange flow issues that I could best describe as viscous or sticky. Walnut doesn't seem to have that problem. It feels wetter than it actually seems to be, it's dark and saturated but it doesn't feel uncontrollable.

    You are guilty of just another bottle buy I don't need. But surely I'll love. Thank you.

    This is one of my favourite inks too. I had some drying problems on Life Noble notebook paper and fixed them by adding 20-30% water. In other experiments, I mixed it with black to get a nice off-black.
    Enjoy your videos. Hope you find time to post more pens and ink videos.

    Walnut is classified as bulletproof by Nathan, I did notice that his inks will change in color between batches. I hang out at Dromgooles and the swabs they had were completely different from what was in the bottle. That was after only 3 months or so too!

    I don't really like brown inks (ok, to be honest I've never tried any browns) but I had to like the video because of your enthusiasm!

    Thanks for your efforts to give us your favorite inks, interesting ink. I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

    It was the first Noodler's I got. I have no idea why I chose it at the time. Love your video's.

    I just got a bottle of this…I really like it…I put it in a broad and tested and swabbed it…it’s nice…but then Input it in a fine nib (Euro) now I really love it. It has some personality that holds up even in a thin line and it flows nicely.

    Brown is starting to look good. You make awesome videos, you helped me choose 54th mass, Antietam, and several other ones.

    I think you didn't sound enthusiastic enough ;) I've been looking for a good brown, this looks awesome. thanks for sharing!

    When I was looking at brown inks, Noodler's Walnut stood out because of the richness of color. It looked like how I thought a brown ink should look. I bought it for my Conklin Endura Mahogany pen.

    Funny, Walnut was also my first bottle of ink. I immediately lost it, and went out and bought another, then I found the first. Then I decided it was really too ruddy, I prefer a Sepia. So now i have TWO bottles of Walnut, 95%+ full each. That I don't like. I'll be taking them to my grave.

    Excellent review. Dry-time info, water-tests -- awesome.

    What a great review! Thank you. I have some issues with its dry time but like it otherwise. Do you think the ink has changed over the years, or is it still the same for you?

    Update: I think I fell victim to weird lighting again, because I tried it in a different place and the red undertones were a lot more apparent (Sometimes I forget how different inks can look in different lights). So it looks like you might not need to be super concerned, hopefully

    AHAHAhahaha I love this review. "I don't have a favorite" *spends the rest of the review going nuts for this ink*
    I might just get a bottle because of this review.

    Just bought a bottle of this ink and it looks less red to me. Maybe its the difference between batches. Still, I'm liking it a lot and some red undertones appear here and there with some nibs and some papers.

    I enjoy your reviews and thought that this was hilarious. In the beginning you couldn't name a favorite, then.....OMG WALNUT! Methinks you're a bit of a walnut fangirl!

    I love the colour of this one. Is it easy to clean? Do you know which of the Noodlers are the ‘safest’? I have heard horror stories about some of their inks. I tried Apache Sunset and loved it!

    Sadly, as noted below by few others, the bottle I bought was significantly lighter than the sample I tried first. So there is significant batch-to-batch variation. Disappointing as it could be a great ink if the color were consistent. Well behaved ink, but my batch has a faded brown look.

    Walnut ink is popular in dip nib calligraphy.

    Noodler's brown is one of those inks you kinda wish never dried. As for walnut I'm not the biggest fan of red undertones and I'm not the biggest fan of dusty inks either(probably why I prefer inks when wet).

    Just got myself a bottle today, but sadly mine appears a good deal more gold, which is a bit of a shame because I really dig the color here in the video. Who knows, maybe it'll grow on me

    • @VixR
      @VixR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ..."Gold"...?!
      Huh.
      Weird!
      It may not help much, but perhaps try really, *really* shaking the bottle up (tightly closed, of course)? There might be de-emulsification between the elements, and some component of the ink might have settled like a sediment...?
      Admittedly, that's never happened to me, but it's worth a shot.
      If not, any of the significant shops online - - such as Anderson Pens, or Goulet - - will probably accept a return (so long as you haven't used a dozen ml already or something). =-/

      It's definitely a brown for sure, it just has more of a gold/yellow base, much like some of the comparison inks you showed in the video. I did try shaking it a bit, but not super aggressively. It does seem like some Noodler's inks, particularly the permanent ones, need to be shaken every now and then--I've noticed 54th Massachusetts becomes a baby blue color if you haven't used it for a while.
      That being said, I did sort of shoot myself in the foot with this one. I tried a sample and it was much the same color. For some reason I decided to go ahead and buy a whole bottle thinking it would be different, and of course it wasn't. I don't necessarily dislike the color, and I'll most likely hold on to it (this is my only real brown ink) It just caught me off guard.
      The good thing is it's still pretty darn water resistant!

    • @VixR
      @VixR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Admittedly, I am now borderline-concerned...
      As shown in the video; this bottle is not long for this world (I love it too much, so exhausting it is inevitable), and I was thinking of buying a *new* bottle slightly-preemptively... now I'm terrified the new bottle won't be the OLD color that I love so very dearly! 😵

    • @matttaylor3034
      @matttaylor3034 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, I hope my testimony didn't concern you too much! The ink swatch shown on the Goulet website is pretty much how mine looks, although maybe not quite as dark when it's in a pen:
      www.gouletpens.com/is-n19018/p/IS-N19018.
      I don't know how that exactly compares to your bottle. Maybe the color differences are just variations from different batches? It seems like Noodler's inks can be slightly different from bottle to bottle (from what I've heard, Nathan does that deliberately to prevent forgery or something like that)

    • @raybeckon1235
      @raybeckon1235 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, my bottle looks nothing like the review, appears much lighter in color even with a very wet nib. Batch-to-batch variation is a known issue it seems.

    Do you still like Kiowa Pecan? Also, is it better in a wet or dry pen?
