it's kinda crazy to see now most of these athletes were struggling to get 155 kg/342 lbs log for max, whereas now the 342 lbs log is done for reps in comp. what an evolution we had in strongman.
Big Z failing the 160 kg loglift. Hard to imagine. He must have really worked hard on his pressing power from 2003 onward, eventually getting 228 kg years later.
@@b_rabbit435 Puts rest to the common state that Z was better than Mariusz as "Z hadn't peaked when MP dominated in their WSM contests....". If anything, Mariusz was further from peak, not to mention much less experienced.
@@TheVanillatech Don’t forget about IFSA and what Big Z accomplished over there. Mariusz however is the most winningest Strongman competitor in events in WSM along with other Strongman events related to the WSM circuit. Overall though Big Z has set a shit ton of world records and has unbeatable records in medals along with trophies from all the Strongman events along with his IPF history.
@@hydro.pl.27 What did I just say? Mariusz hadn't anywhere near peaked, was an absolute beginner and newcomer, while he still DOMINATED Z (and everyone else), despite Z being a veteran, in his peak, with a decade of experience. Mariusz was doing sport for fun, thats all he ever did it for. Imagine if he had been in it for setting records! No wonder most of the guys ran away to IFSA and only came back to WSM once Mariusz had retired. Z was getting so tired of those second places! LOL
Truly Jarno’s hour to shine. Unreal performance with this field, two event wins? Come on. He could’ve pipped Zydrunas if he hadn’t messed up on the stones.
Colin has excess belt even here back in 2003 no doubt in anticipation of increased girth, lately he has about a foot of excess belt so maybe he is expecting to get even bigger. (lol this is what happens when you get older, man it's a bummer)
Event with throwing this steel kettel over the bar was setted for Jarno because he was from Holland where competition was held. To be honest... disgrace for me.

The evolution of Big Z you mean.
His mind and his weight of athletics was be smaller than now

Mariusz was unstoppable.
This was the golden era of strongman, 95-05 or so. Great video, thanks for posting it.
44:08 a reference to the original viking Jon Pál from 1988 when he made his victory lap after winning in the McGlashen stone event
Crazy to see Z fail a log lift.
Wasn't full yet
he hadnt yet evolved into Venusaur back then, only a mere ivysaur
I thought the same. He fails 160 kg here but eventually gets 228!
me when having a bad back: cant even walk, mariusz bad back: lifts 180kg stones with ease rofl
Keep going.
Channel looks good .I love strongman ,ifsa , Warka Strongman, Arnold stronan classic , Fortissimus Contest , WUS ,
Mariusz Dominator Pudzianowski 👏👍
Zydrunaz hates flowers lol
9:19 Big Z fails on 155kg...cut to 7 years later and he does this same weight for a fairly easy 10 reps at the 2010 World's Strongest Man.
True but he was only 27 here. Most people peak in physical strength in the mid to late 30s
Was actually 160kg, commentator got confused as Z skipped 155. He corrects himself at 09:05

For my fellow dutchies (or other people) wondering: this event was held in Silvolde, close to Jarno's place of birth Hengelo.

Hams did really good here, why did he not compete in other strongman finals? theres so many international events. I guess it was home turf magic!
