Not one mention of L&T or the Tata-Daewoo JV who have not only designed and engineered the bridge (including both Front-end as well as Detailed Engineering), but are actually constructing the bridge and the approach roads!
You say to avoid car-centric projects. I was also of the same opinion from the beginning of Mumbai Coastal Road project started. I just dont understand why the authorities say because of fund crunch they couldn't make a combined bridge of Metro & Road on Sewri- Nhava Seva Mumbsi Trans Harbour Link. It is pure evidence of not having long vision. Mumbai Coastal Road is being built at a cost of Rs.6500Cr. ( as of my knowledge) which is purely Car-Centric! How much it would have added to cost of Mumbai- Navi Mumbai Trans Harbour link to incorporate a Metro lane for the benefit of common people expected to travel between Nhava Seva and Sewri? That same Metro could have been linked to the new airport at Navi Mumbai with South Mumbai in much faster way.
A very well made and informative video. Kudos! Our dream of pedestrian and cycle friendly cities will have to wait; nowhere seen in Navi Mumbai too, in spite of being a planned City. The much needed focus on Mass Rapid Transport is indeed a bright silver lining, after a long period of car focused infrastructure development.

You raised many many issues together in this video. The main point is how to decongest our big cities which have become a planner's nightmare. While this Sewri - Nhava Shewa Harbour Link will go a long way in easing commuters pain, the larger issue of decongesting Mumbai needs a lot of head scratching and tough/unpopular decesions. I would even suggest that the state govt should move out of Mumbai over the next 15-20 years.
@@Mork2001 How is that legal ? Citizens have right rights to work in any field they choose. Plus, billions of dollars have been invested in the industry in Bombay over 100 years. Thousands of people gain livelihood from the industry, directly as well as indirectly
Mumbai already has its suburban trains. The existing lines are broad gauge, which means wider cabins and increased capacity. The lines are straight, enabling higher speeds. They only need to be upgraded and properly fenced off. There is no need for an RRTS in Mumbai. Instead, work should be done to separate the intercity train lines from the suburban train lines for seamless operation. Work should also be done to ensure perfect connectivity between the suburban lines and metro. Another thing is to connect the Western line & Harbour Line with a tunnel: Andheri-CSMIA-Kurla and onwards to Vashi-NMIA-Panvel on existing track. The Mumbai Suburban Rail should also be handed over from the Indian Railways to a new unified transport authority for Mumbai. We need to reimagine the suburban trains. These things aren't getting as much attention as they should. There aren't enough resources or political will right now. But it should change in the future.
@@nihalwarawdekar5025 great points!! I did not know Indian Railways was directly managing the suburban rail. Then it certainly would be better to have a unified transport authority for Mumbai to
@@FavoriteCentaurMoe this is sadly the case :( not just that, western railways and central railways manage the western and central/harbor lines respectively - and they do not talk to one another like they should. and the indian railways in turn does not communicate with the BEST to best schedule bus services. whats worse is that there are two different organizations building our metro network. MMRC and MMRDA. they dont talk to one another either!! can you imagine two metro lines intersecting at BKC not having the same ticketing system?! because that is the case!!!
Avoiding car centric approach needs to be done not just in Mumbai but also in other places like Pune, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Napgpur etc. Proper rail connectivity by way of metro needs to be achieved to avoid over-reliance on road transport. Also, the public buses need to be upgraded . In addition the busses in these cities are rarely on-time, which has lead to more dependency on cars. Talking about cycling, pedestrians and road-side hawkers occupy the cycle lanes which force cycles on the main road. In addition, to metros, locals and RRTS, the viability of sea ferries between Mumbai and Navi mumbai can also be checked to reduce the dependency on land based transport.
