If you're interested in knowing what order the skin mods were in the previous video, check out the description. NOTE: The Mature Skin mod shown here is Mature Skin - Mommy version.
Mature Skin aged like fine wine! I'm a little shocked, I've not used that mod in a long time. Almost makes me want to download it again. The mod I voted for in the showdown was 10 - BnP and that's the mod I currently use in my game. Glad to see it came close 2nd. Thanks for the videos, and I'm glad you kept it a secret until now. I was suspired how some ranked up, like the mods in the early part of the video with very little votes. If I remember those mods are a lot newer compared to the older classics. I also agree with your statement, using what fits best for your game and not just what is popular.
I used The Pure, Leyenda, Fair Skin Complexion, Diamond, but I settled on Bijin. Overall, for my tastes it has the best blend with other mods that I use that use different skins, so there's a definite difference looking at the characters. I don't use any ENB so overall Bijin covers that gap fairly well.
Thanks for putting the order in the description, I was going crazy trying to figure that out while watching xD Even though I've never used it before or looked at it closely, I guessed that #10 in last video which won second place here was BnP, it was a balanced approach and very good technically as far as I can tell, pretty much all things BnP is renowned for. My favourites were: #4 which I now know is Tempered Skin and won 5th place. Even though it seemed technically less detailed (or maybe not, I'm not a specialist but that's how it looks to me), it made the most interesting and realistic faces imo. Followed by #10, BnP which was also second in your poll here and had perfect balance between flaws and details, texture detail, and smoothness for some skins so it has the best range for most characters with the exception of the older one, Uthgerd, who looked way too young. And finally #11 which got sixth place here. I didn't guess it was Bijin but I'm pretty happy, since that's the one I've used for almost as long as it has existed, to see that even in a blind test it's still in my top 3, and I didn't just choose it each time out of brand recognition but because I genuinely liked it xD Seriously, this was a great experiment, genuinely useful in order to figure out what I want without spending hours on tests myself, I'll only have to try BnP and Tempered Skin next install.
I have seen both videos, and the phycological aspect of this presentation is absolutely fantastic. Note that likely have changed the way some or many people think and make choices. Subscribed.
That was great! I am pretty sure I had no idea what the one I liked best was, previously, and now I can come back and remind myself :) How about guys' skins next? I'd love to see that, since I've been using the same one forever.
I love that some of the older mods like mature skin, bijin, and tempered made the list! I use about 10 skin mods simultaneously (with custom distributions), and there are so many great options! Most of them made the list but Binibini, Realore, Women of Skyrim, and Pride of Valhalla are also superb options and def in my top 10!
Definitely surprised with some and not at all by others. Great job. I wonder if you have a few more of these blind comparator vids - ENBs, Mountains, Grass? Probably quite difficult and time consuming to do. This was fun and helpful though.
It could get time consuming. This was easy because all the NPCs were in one place, but to go to many locations and get B roll for a dozen mods would be tedious and time consuming.
I like this way of showcasing and ranking the mods. For example, I would've NEVER installed the mod I ranked the highest just because the Nexus mod page doesn't look attractive and doesn't actually show more pictures of the mod. Totally lost potential. Much appreciated, Skyking.
This would be hard to make a fair fight. It really depends on lighting mods, fire mods, weather mods, etc. If I use NAT and ELFX among other lighting mods, it'll look completely different if you use different mods. Also, most enb's either need the exact load order the mod author had to look like the screen shots or needs tweaking of the settings to look best. It would be hard to do an ENB video because of all the variables. I'll guarantee that if I did a video like that and you went and installed that ENB, it would look nothing like it does in my video.
Almost all follower npcs like Uthgerd can be replaced/overhauled, so what i'm trying not to get with some of these mods is having old npcs look like 20 year olds while they sound like grannies. This is why removing wrinkles entirely is a bad idea.
Using FairSkin because it's required for something but i like the look of the BnP here, it seems like a great compromise between detailed texture and soft looking skin.
Yeah there's about a dozen I didn't include. That would take forever. I had it and posted it in the discord but didn't get enough votes to go into the video.
I personally prefer tempered skins, I like that women can look more grizzled. Fits skyrims atmosphere more in my opinion. Second best would probably be reverie, that's just me though. Everyones got their preferences
Tempered and Reverie does that perfectly. I think Tempered is a little more subdued than Reverie also if someone wants a more in-between look. Both are awesome and it's hard for me not to love Reverie. I think the normals could be a little more detailed, though.
@@The-Skyking oh absolutely, I thought about switching to reverie for a while, I really like how elves look particularly dunmer. The normals are what stopped me, I think tempered tends to have a better look in that regard.
I didn't vote but in the last video I did like 9 and 11 the best, kind of surprised that I was also praising BIJIN for realism though. It's unfortunate that the mod pages for both have no pictures with a vanilla body, I never would have known without this.
They're all pretty good, really. Skyrim without a skin mod (I don't have one currently) is still an improvement on Fallout 4, where every skin mod I tried seemed to have a glossy plastic-like sheen. I would probably go for easy to install and low impact on performance and feel like I'm still ahead of the game. Good stuff to think about.
I had never heard of Mature Skin which was my favorite and I was already tracking tempered skin and reverie. I might use tempered skin for men and mature skin for women in my next playthrough. I do think the showcase could've featured an exterior shot for different lighting. Overall this was fun.
You know I thought of that. But I was afraid people would have said it was unfair since some were daylight, some were inside. And it's not a level playing field if it's not the same NPCs inside and out. And then do you use overcast or sunny...it's a thing.
Interesting! I've been playing with Bijin in my current playthrough, but for my next run I'll use either BnP, Reverie, or Mature. Edit: Hmm, yeah...most likely BnP.
A really interesting experiment of seeing the difference is made just by changing the skin texture and you're quite right we're all looking for different qualities not just gritty immersion and enhanced cleavage, like me . Are you going to do the same experiment for the men of Skyrim at some point?
@@The-Skyking Definitely nowhere near as many, but there are a few more than that. Let's see, off the top of my head there's BnP, Vitruvia, Loverboy, Tempered, Simply Skin, ReaLore, Fried's Male Skin, and Males of Skyrim... so at least 8.

Why do you only show skin on female characters? What I like with the vanilla looks is that they are more realistic than all the skin mods I've seen. Women who lived in an environment similar to Skyrim did not look like modern Instagram models.
