and yet his suit was a shit, darth vader was a burdening coffin, limited mobility, and he was in constant pain every time. His life support system was literally exposed in his chest, and was designed to be succeptible to electricity (palpatine's power). He tried to cure himself through meditation and force healing, but then palpatine constantly exercised an oppressive dark force influence to prevent his healing. Also, vader was resorting to the dark side of the force to cure himself, not a very smart move since it was too difficult to make it cure and needed extreme concentration, something that he didn't have. He also wanted a better arnor, but it wouldnt be any reason for palpatine to purposedly choose a poor tech armor and poor tech medic droids for vader from the start if he would let him improve or change his armor in the future. Palpatine WANTED vader to be weak and in constant pain and struggle, so he didn't let vader switch to a better one, which would be wonderful for vader and, if he still decided to help his son in the final confrontation and turn back to the light side of the force, he could have survived and became a powerful jedi master once again, maybe even preventing the new order to exist.

Palpatine could have perhaps wanted Vader to be in constant pain, so that it reminds him of his hate towards Obi Wan and the Jedi Order, so he stays in the dark side.
You think Vader would have turned to the light side earlier if he didnt feel his pain anymore?

This is scary af seeing all the small parts inside him that were machine. I always thought it was just the limbs, not most of his internal organs, eyesight, and joints that were mechanically replaced. The poor man lost so much to gain nothing.

I dont know about speed. The suit was said to be outdated at the time he donned it. It was kept extremely painful for him to keep his rage constant. It was a way palps was able to keep him under control so I think it hampered his speed as well.

It also has been stated that the armor was purposely made very cumbersome and uncomfortable by Palpatine as punishment as were his prosthetic limbs. But the pain caused by the suit’s uncomfortableness fuels the dark side for him. And having to reinvent his style of combat to work around the limitations but also maximize the abilities of his suit he literally became one of the greatest duelist.

    • @angusrumplemeyer1791
      @angusrumplemeyer1791 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

I'm glad someone else knew about this. It was also said that the suit kept Vader from reaching his full power because the Emperor was fearful of that. They had better technology at the time but Emperor Palpatine purposely that antique technology into Vader just to hinder him.

@@angusrumplemeyer1791 I’m seeing a running theme with Palpatine and downgrading every bit of technological advancement in the empire including his own apprentice. Personally, I've always seen Vader as a tale of how 1. the darkness will always try to sneak up on you 2. No one is too far gone to be saved. and 3. How one's emotions should always be tempered by rationality. Anakin had fear because of his dreams which were vague, Palpatine used that fear to push him, and if Anakin had stopped and thought about it he would realize that Yoda was right when he said that the future was always changing and that the dream could have been only one possibility of what could come to pass.

Can people truly be forgived for their crimes no matter how cruel and brutal they might have been? If Darth Vader was a serial rapist instead of a cold blooded killer, would we have less sympathy for him? Would fans or directors still give him another chance at being good? Clearly killing is worse than rape, but it doesn’t sound like it if you make Vader a rapist instead of someone who slaughtered Jedi. What if he raped Jedi instead of killing or torturing them? Would he still be redeemable?

Someone as severely burned as Anakin would never have survived without intervention, let alone replacing all his limbs. Third-degree burns over almost his entire body should have killed him outright, not to mention shock from the loss of his limbs and the gases he inhaled before he was rescued. It was surprising that Palpatine went to the trouble to save him.

Remember when Darth Vader was an imposing space samurai, who may have been able to travel in a vacuum, and the purpose of whose dehumanizing modifications, as seen in ESB, may have been to make him even more powerful, and not a burn survivor with a colostomy bag? Yeah, General Grievous got body modifications as his backstory later, but the main point is that some backstories are better left to the imagination. Beautiful work on the video, by the way, but l also love the RLM takes on the Expanded Universe materials in that they emphasize when an addition makes the universe seem smaller and less original instead.

It was his self-hate and conflict that kept him alive for more than 20 years, even during the times when his suit malfunctioned. It wasnt just the suit but also his emotional well-being that sustained him. After Vader let go of his hate and turned on the Emperor, his suit was severely damaged and he held on for a little longer to ask Luke to remove his mask so that he can reveal himself. When Anakin died soon after, he was also free from the prison (I.e. the life support armor) that he locked himself in for so long.

I still prefer the old canon version of how Vaders suit came to be. It was originally just a functional life support rig that, over the years, Vader fitted with armor and stylized bits to make it more intimidating. I believe his suit took shape during his yrs hunting down refugee Jedi...which is also, iirc, where he lost a few more limbs and sustained additional injuries, requiring even more prosthesis.
In short...Vader was originally a creature who evolved over time into what we saw on the big screen.
Then Lucas retconned all that by having Palpatine standing by with a ready-made bad guy suit to put his hapless new apprentice into...thus checking off the Instant Gratification box in his efforts to complete the last 50% of Anakins transition into Darth Vader in the final half hour of the prequel trilogy's runtime 🙄

i got a book about his body that when obi wan first chatted to luke after yoda died he told luke that "he's more machine now that man" and also that he did NOT have leg stumps as he did in the movie revenge of the sith. also, according to return of the jedi after he throws the emperor down into the abyss you can clearly see (if you look closely that is) that half his spine from his brain half way down his back you can clearly see that it's ENTIRELY cybernetic. also in the empire strikes back when admiral piett enters vader's chamber you see his helmet being lowered onto his head ALONG WITH HIS MASK without any forcefield to hold any oxygen in place. ON A PERSONAL NOTE I HAVE STUDIED THESE 2 INCONSISTENCIES FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND I THINK GEORGE LUCAS SHOULD ADDRESS THEM.

Ok so here is the question, you mentioned the cooling pump on his head and the bypass breathing tube, but where is the main inhalation and exhalation taking place? Also what's with his replaced t junction, shoulders and prosthetic vertebrae? We see this in Episode 6 as he's being fried, but there is still it seems no real acknowledgement of these pieces, discussions or even when/where this injury(s) took place that required this replacement. It makes sense that the Gorget section of the mask (around the neck) supports his head etc, but how extensive was this? When the suit shuts down does he become a quadriplegic who cant even move or feel their body?
Also that mesh has many inaccuracies, main thing that stands out is the bit around the back of the had attached to the main mask piece. That should not be there, the helmet has the missing bit and magnetically seals forming a full body hermetical seal. This is why when his hand is cut off he starts breathing fun, the seal of the suit overall has been compromised and the system begins to strain to keep the 02 pressure where it should be.
You also forgot he has another box on his back that attaches to the same straps as the chest box. This is where his main power and back up system is stored. As well it provides additional back protection to a point. The cape was not light weight, like the body suit it also was fairly fire proof and could take glancing blaster blows and diffuse them.
Overall you've got a really cool demo and idea going back you're gonna have to take your info and demo WAY up to the next level to be properly informing people. 6/10 a bit rushed, misinformed and lacking further detail's other than what can really already be found on google. I suggest reaching out to other nerds and let ur self be outnerded and learn.

Hi guy's, last year I suffered a epileptic seizure caused by to much stress and work, I'm 28.
The fit completely fractured and splintered both my humorous bones and shoulders. My right arm was so badly damaged, before surgery the doctors said I have a 90% chance of amputation of my right arm. Then I would need a prosthetic arm until I can have access for a robotic arm. I am a huge fan of star wars. I underwent surgery for 7 hours and the luckily saved both my arms. But I definitely believe that films like star wars, Robocop and perhaps even Terminator can help scientists and surgeons to help rebuild or bodies especially if we lose major lims like our legs and arms.
In the operation room I really felt a connection to vader for the case of amputation and in future, rebuilding what I might have lost with technology. Thanks for the video

You mad lad, you did it.
Vader is a fascinating character and his story is one reason I love the prequels so much. (Yeah, you heard me, I love the prequels. Sue me).
Parts of his skeleton are also covered with a layer of armour just to help support the massive weight of his suit. His legs are similarly reinforced for the same reason. The suit's weight forced him to retool his entire fighting style, as he could no longer perform the fast-paced, aggressive swordplay of Anakin Skywalker, and instead relied on a more defensive style with heavy swings when on the offensive. After-all, his control plate is highly vulnerable and needs to be protected during combat.
As for humans reliance on technology, well we've been doing that for thousands of years. When people think of technology they think things like machines or mobile 'phones, but really even something as a simple campfire or animal skin clothing is technology in a sense. Humans are way past the point of being able to survive without it.

Something I've always wondered - Palpatine saved Anakin's broken body and turned him into a cyborg, to serve as his "tank". (rpg terminology). What would have happened if Vader took some of his organic DNA and cloned it, and just made another healthy Anakin, free of Palpatine's influence and machinery? The fact my doctor gave me minimal pain meds didn’t help the agony, and for weeks I was wondering why the fuck I did this. I eventually fully recovered, no pain, no meds needed, so there’s that.

I always wondered why the suit and all structural parts were not made of Beskar steel which, in Star Wars lore, is the best material for making essentially anything. But the theory presented in the comments here, which may be just a fan theory but a good one nonetheless, that the Emperor deliberately kept Vader from having the absolute best technology and materials, so as to keep him weaker than the Emperor, and dependent, is an interesting potential answer to that conundrum I've had for years.
