- Everyone needs to get out and explore, discover and and learn. If you need a good excuse for your own super cheap adventure, get a gold claim and learn to prospect.
We're always excited for an easy family adventure and learning to gold pan is is super easy and cheap. This video should give you the idea but if you want more instruction check out Dan Hurds channel at / @danhurd
Getting a gold claim in BC is pretty simple; first get a Free Miners Certificate from the government office (costs ~$25 or $50). Second, access Mineral Titles online (Google MTO BC) and select an available claim from the interactive map. The cost is $100 for the first year and then you can keep it indefinitely as long as you perform and report $400 worth of prospecting activities each year.

The bare feet didn't last long... we're already getting snow snow snow here in Wyoming, and BC is a long way north. I agree with Rose, we didn't get much of a summer. BUT... I'm gonna go get some gold today for myself because it doesn't have to be summer to get gold. GOLD! I love the look of it, the smell of it, the TASTE of it!!! Some people put thousands... tens of thousands... hundreds of thousands of dollars into their hobby. 15 bucks worth of gas to get to my gold spot and I'm HAPPY!!! Oh, get Dave out there digging... no sense in wasting good labor :-)

I've spent the last couple nights binge watching all of your video's. You people are so freaking cool. I'm hooked. The example that your family sets for everyone is so vital and important. You all have a human quality in you that has almost totally been lost to the masses. Your family is truly helping to keep that human quality alive. Good people need to ignore the "powers that be" who continually seek to herd them like chattel slave property into the cities in an effort to control every aspect of their lives.
Humanity needs to break away and go out into nature and live with real human dignity like your family does.
The people need to vigorously shun Brad and Angelina, and their ilk, and their phony way of life, and in turn embrace Jeff and Rose, and their contemporaries, and their real quality way of life. I say... Down with the communist swine and their Satanic New World Order... We want the old world order back. The nation of Canada should put your family portrait on a postage stamp. Jeff... Always remember that you struck gold (literally the mother lode) the moment you married your High School Sweetheart and started a family with a woman who could arguably be one of the coolest chicks living on the Earth today.

I've roasted potatoes on a camp fire whilst looking for fossils. Here in Ireland there are places to pan for gold. The nearest place to me is about 40 miles away. The children looked like they were having fun which is great to see.

"Woo hoo! Go dad! has to be the best line in this video, I literally LOL'd. A really unique set of life experiences the girls are getting growing up compared to the average city child, thank goodness! BTW I understand 'gold fever'. You wouldn't believe how much dirt I moved from under a spruce tree root system on the edge of a river with 30 or 40 micro flecks of flour gold per pan.

I used to prospect for fun. "IF" there's gold, you'll find most of it in the center while the water flow is at FLOOD STAGE and then, just under large round to flat rocks. When (if) the river is seasonal, you can estimate its flood-stage center and " FLIP ROCKS " then pan the sands just beneath the downstream side. It's actually called "Rock Flipping".

Just spent a month and a half offgrid putting hours on two of my claims (goodto dates almost 10 years down the road now). My 18 year old grandson still loves to come out to the claims and get dirty.

That's a good panning spot. You need to dig down deep; to the bedrock if you can. You'll find plenty, based on what your test pans show.
