Emile Frey raced a pair of GT3 Jaguars in Blancpain GT Championship. They did look into buying the GT2 cars but it was too much of a gamble, condition, spec, what would be needed to make them GT3 worthy, also safe. Instead they built their own.

A good follow up video topic to this would be Michel Hommell's private and not very successful 24h of Le Mans GT1 effort with an Aston Martin DB7. His Berlinette road cars are pretty quirky and obscure too. Or, more fittingly, Group 44's factory backed Jaguar XJS Trans Am racer.

@@DirtyJaguarRacing I think the video touches on this at the end too, but this entire project screams privateer. RSR probably wanted to build the car and managed to get some light sponsorship from the factory, but I doubt Jaguar would have gone to a relatively small US team for a factory effort.

Man, i only remember ruthly that Jaguar was a Open Wheel Formular 1 Team in the Early 20`s too. They had such a unique deisgn and i totaly loved it. Sadly that they aren`t actively participaiting in any racing anymore.

Small correction: the XKR GT2 car was naturally aspirated. For context: Supercharging in racing after the 50s, with rare exceptions, is not competitive. The power loss from the supercharger drive is easily in excess of 100hp for a 500hp engine. The powerloss from increased backpressure from a turbo is just fractions of that.

Also, before this one, there was another halfway commited GT3 project (Apex?) that died with David Leslie. They should have asked Aston Martin to do their engine (same origin).

The Emil Frey Jaguar in the Blaincpain GT series was competitive against that field. Even with a "silver" driver pairing they were consistently fighting in the top 10 and towards the end of its development it was fighting for race victories (2018)
I'm actually more than a little surprised that you would completely leave that out. Yes their first foray into the GT ranks wasn't all that successful, but the 2nd time around was much more noteworthy.. weird to leave it out

I love Jaguar- but EVEN the Lister Storm GT a car from another British manufacturer managed to finish the Lemans 24 hours and had a couple GT wins- hell at least FINiSH races powered by what? a thumping Jaguar V12 in the front from the Jaguar XJR-12. When you can’t even finish races- these are not teething problems- after all that time? this is just flat out SLOPPY. And that wasent even a factory effort. There is NO WAY that Jaguar had a factory effort in this program. Marketing involvement YES- factory involvement hell no. And they KNOW IT. When a factory is involved in the representation of their brand and their car especially with as prestigious history as Jaguar- with 7 Lemans wins? XJR-9 and XJR-12 wins as well as Daytona? they want to protect that- and it WILL SHOW.

IMHO it looks like they were just partially supported by Jaguar, if the company really wanted to get some top-rankings, they should have gone full blast and sort out the mechanical and other reliability issues.
On the other hand, don't forget what a mess the Scuderia Ferrari was when Michael Schumacher became their driver, he had to reorganise that with Ross Brawn and Jean Todt first and had problems like the mechanics were strolling around after finishing their lunch.
And Jaguar's XJR sportscars were successful, so they sorted out a lot of issues, however, they didn't do it alone but together with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR).
The Lister Storm (GT) was successful in it's later years around 2000 (however in the mid-90s it also wasn't very successful) and it uses a 7 litre Jaguar V12; sounds like Alpina, they began as a BMW tuner and co-developed the 3.0 CSL when BMW decided to do later projects on their own and founded the ///M GmbH.

If I could sum up this car journey, it would be that lady luck has turned her back on this car given the multitude of bad luck happening to it. If they get the full 6 hours of Laguna Seca testing done as well as finish the first couple of rounds of the American LeMans Championship races (by finish I mean finish the entire race) without any reliability problem even if they are not in the top 10 to give them more data, then it could be a good GT2 car given how much it has improved over with the limited time they had, furthermore it would gave them much added confident to race the 24 hour of LeMans.

Jaguar in 2023 makes me sad. I truly believed that no-nonsense Tata would fix the place up. But they are like Ford, minus the QA Dept, so like MG, Jag is consigned to the 'happy memories' group of car brands.
Sir William Lyons was the ultimate villain imo.

I remember this Jaguar! It was a featured car in the 2010 mobile game Real Racing 2. The game’s flagship car was the Corvette C6.R GT2. Real Racing 3 is more sensible as a racing game, but RR2’s AI and fictional tracks are way more fun. Believe it or not, you can wrangle that 13 year-old game to play on a modern iPhone (you just can’t play the career mode on hard or else the game bricks, lol). Since it was the third-best car in the game, I always assumed it was a good one. So watching this was really interesting.
