Juncos's Miserable IMSA Experience

  • IMSA is a series where anything can (and usually does) happen. Any team in any class, can take the victory. However, for one team, the IMSA experience wouldn't turn out to be so jolly.

Can you do a video on Nissan's involvement in DPi? Their program wasn't all that great, evidenced by he fact that I only remembered they even existed by spotting them on this video and going "Oh yeah, that did happen".

Didn’t that car win Sebring in 2016?

    • @sunsolaris
      @sunsolaris 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

@@isthisagoodname6279It won Sebring in 2018. And on top of that in 2017 it wonnat Road America and at the Petit Le Mans too. Also in 2018 it won at Laguna Seca too. It was rather successful I'd say, winning four races including two of the most prestigious ones. Problem was the same as Jaguar's ALMS program and Suzuki's WRC program, Nissan didn't really give a shit and seemed to be distancing themselves from prototype sportscar racing after the GTR LM Nismo debacle

@@jaiganticpooey3012 I'll still defend the Longboi, it wasn't a bad design, a lot of its failure came from a battery supplier who didn't know how to make batteries and Nissan rage quitting instead of pushing through it and taking part in WEC in 2016

I've been watching IMSA for awhile and yet I completely forgot about Juncos' effort. I'm looking at this Cadillac as if I'm looking into another universe because I do not remember it.

I wish that they could have remained in IMSA! That livery was top! I have a close friend that works for Juncos in the Indy Car program and sent him this video to poke the people above to give it another go! Maybe this time in a GTD effort
Also seeing footage of the Mazda really makes me miss that car. I really wish they would come back into Prototype racing. It's not the same without them honestly.
Also RIP to the Nissan DPI. Shame that it was only ever run at what felt like 7/10ths potential with Nissan not diving fully into it.

the nissan dpi did great for a privateer effort. A couple wins and was pretty competitive during the ESM days

I was at mosport when they crashed in turn 2. Heck of a wreck, the slow motion replay they showed doesn’t do justice to how fast and hard he hit that tire barrier. Race was red flagged for like an hour and a bit while they got him out of the car and to a hospital and repaired the tire barrier.

This was another of tens of dozens of examples of teams being put together to burn ( gullible) sponsor's dollars. Few, if any could be found ultimately and no pay drivers came on board with dollars from their personal sponsors.

9:27 - oh heck, it's the IMSA race I flew over from London to watch! I was mostly there for the last race of the Corvette C7R, but a lot of that race ended up feeling like an end of an era in retrospect - last race for the Ford GTs, that generation of Porsche 911 RSR, the by then fairly ancient Nissan DPi (which was pretty decent when it wasn't being driven by owner Jon Bennett, who was comically slow compared to the pros - Colin Braun had to work WONDERS with that car to make it competitive), and as it turned out, Juncos' last outing in IMSA. It definitely felt like they were out of their depth a bit, and were mostly competing against the JDC-Miller Motorsport cars and the CORE Nissan, mostly a big step behind the front runners at Penske, AXS, WTR and Mazda Multimatic etc. It was cool to see them out there though, and if nothing else, their livery looked awesome on the track!

Kyle Kaiser grabbed the last spot of the grid for 2019 Indy 500 away from Fernando Alonso. I believe he has the talent, but was he in the wrong car for the DPi program? Well, I don't think he was; maybe it was too early for the team to join to the top class.

As a life long Ferrari fan` I can safely say they did an amazing job in a very short time ... and it took guts to even consider taking on such a massive project. I only started watching IMSA in 2012 after I got bored of watching F1 racing all my life ... I found IMSA far more entertaining because of the close racing and the wide range of cars that enter each race. I think Juncos should try running a LMP2 team or even an LMP3 and they would have a better chance of winning a few races in IMSA .. or simply buy a GT3 and have a go at racing on the Global stage at Blue Ribbon events like Daytona 24 and Spa 24.

I hope Mazda reconsiders involvement in IMSA as I truly enjoyed their battles with Acura and Cadillac, and feel that a highly competitive series not only boosts brand exposure, but the companies morale.

At this level of racing, the drivers should be paid professional racing drivers, not pay drivers. You get what you get.
But then again, I can't think of a series where the drivers are paid except for top level open wheel.

Sometimes some of these teams shoot themselves in the foot by going straight to the top level of a series, they couldve easily settled in lmp2 to get acclimatised to the machinery and how they series operate, they only look at the advertisement returns on the top level and thats why they will always fail.
Look at glickemhaus, 3 years in hypercar and nothing to show for it, he can easily enter in lmp2 and cut his teeth there, but "american taking the fight to the europeans"
