I watched a biography on Mr Brooks , the man never drank a drop , he was imitating his father who I’m guessing was a drinker and somewhat abusive , but Mr Brooks took those experiences including the lemons life handed him and made lemonade from them .. he was an extremely talented comedian and as a kid watching him on tv as my parents loved anything Dean Martin, I waited in anticipation for Mr Brooks to do his skit , it was never a dull moment..
Everyone us who ever saw him in person should consider ourselves blessed to be in the same room with a comedic genius like Mr Brooks ..

Foster Brooks did drink at one point in his younger years. He himself said that he stopped drinking cold turkey in 1960 when a friend bet him $10 to stop. Brooks said he did it because he needed the money.

He did his first drunk act on Johnny Carson at 59, and that's when he was discovered. He fooled everyone in the audience, the television audience was in awe that Johnny would have a drunk on his show. Offers just poured into Foster to do appearances everywhere, what delightful humor, still funny today!

The Roast of Don Rick Rickles by Foster Brooks is one of the funniest things I've seen in all my 55 years.
I remember watching it as a kid with my grandparents. We laughed all through it, and I was a fan of Foster from then to today, and I always will be.

An those are not laugh tracts. Didn't need the fake ones. They were truly funny back then. People are saying "why can't we have comics like that now." We can't. People would get their feelings hurt now. There would be riots. Lord I miss the old days. When we could laugh at ourselves. The comics were not being mean and degrading. And not every other word was cuss words.

Ironic, no? Foster Brooks _pretended_ to be drunk, while Dean really was!
(OK, I don't know that for a fact -- Dean may very well have been putting on an act as well. I know that that "pleasantly tipsy" persona was part of Dean's shtick. But if that's what Dean was doing, he certainly was playing it up that night!)
