I put 16,000 miles on my CB500X in less than 6 months. Fantastic little all around motorcycle. The brakes are fine, the suspension more than adequate for rough roads and mild trail or off road riding. The fuel economy is astounding. (62-75 mpg for me so far). It is just so damn easy and fun to ride during commutes and weekend adventures.Very reliable as well. For the price, you won't find a bike as versatile and comfortable as this CB500X.
I"m very close to a purchase of one myself. I'd just passed a basic skills course and obtained my M1 license. Soon as I get my bike, I'm signing up for the intermediate course and taking to the road soon after!! Like a bad itch that I can't scratch, I need to do this . . .
Exactly my sentiments! Although there are scooters that are freeway eligible and have storage space to spare, I'd just rather have a moto for commuting. Manual trans cars were so much fun for me to drive and so it goes with motorcycles.
I absolutely love mine too. I wish I got your fuel economy though. I barely get 50 mpg so either I need to lose weight or go easier on the throttle. As for the top speed question I'm pretty sure they are governed at 109 mph.
I love my CB500X! Does everything very well but nothing really excellent. Still I got mine for $4700 and at 53 years old I do not need anything more aggressive. And the 60+mpg is great.
I just bought the 2016 version and been completely impressed with it. I'm in my late 40's and had much larger bikes before. This little machine is fantastic. So much fun. Easy city commute but I've done long country rides too. It does it all. Bit quiet that's my only complaint but that's an easy fix😎👍
I downsized from a 900 to the CB500X and best move I ever made. The handing of the X is superb and Im building confidence in some offroading that I wouldnt have tried on the old bike
I am glad to see a review of a (midsize) UJM. My first bike in 1984 was a Honda CX500. I was happy with it. I am not a big guy but I took a couple of weekend camping trips two up without issue. After having MANY bikes since then I have come around to the thinking that the CB500X is all the bike you need. Light plus nimble = fun. Good on gas and cheaper insurance. What is not to like.
I have been riding bikes for over 50 years, you name it I have probably had one. I purchased my 500x from new, and it is one of the best bikes I have ever owned.
Best Motorcycle Ever!! Fantastic combination for a perfect riding experience more than 40 years riding , street, custom, trails, even Vespa , but Never found such balance for being able to have only one bike for everything. One can even make long milage trips on this Honda's unexpensive wonder.!
Great review, but I own one so I expected that :) I went from an 800cc cruiser to this, ill never look back! and a shake my head wondering why I ever even thought a cruiser would be a good idea. awesome all around bike, easy for beginners/new riders, my passenger finds it much more comfortable too!
I have this moto and i can afirme that is a stupend motorcycle in all senses. Very, very fast in the street and in road very easy to guide. Doubts in buy? Is the best in her category. Buy with closed eyes, you will not regret.
Jamie, you are so right. Traded my 1,200 Multistrada for this model last year. Awesome bike. I would never buy a huge GS Adventure bike - they're more hassle and weigh a ton compared
I got one as my second bike with side panniers, reflash ecu, full termignoni system,Power Commander and front LED spot lights..Ever went across Australia with my wife..Beside my adventurous Toyota Fortuner 4x4 and my 1st bike the BMW S1000R,Its the third most satisfying vehicles i ever owned.
I had a KLR and I'm seriously considering buying this bike...nobody has anything other than positive things to say about it. I also love how inexpensive the ABS option is. This seems about as close as it gets to a perfect bike.
Thanks for the review. Loved seeing the Giant Loop Fandango tank bag in the video. Giant Loop just acquired a 500X and will be fitting it with a RallyRaid off road kit. Watch Giant Loop's channel for their upcoming change-over videos and ride reviews, too.
Great review Jamie. You tested the Moto Guzzi Stornello a while back. If you can recall that, could you give your view on how that compared to the CB500x please? Cheers, Gareth
Jamie, long time follower here. Wondering if you would recommend the 500 range for a beginner in the 6ft 180 lbs. Range for a new rider. I think 250s and 300s are too small for the bigger fellows. Keep up the great work buddy. I always look forward to your videos. Hope one day to ride with you.
I am actually looking at this bike (CB500X) and the next step up Versys 650 LT. I've been riding for 10 years now and have owned 4 different cruisers Suzuki M50, Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic, Victory Vegas, and my current bike the Victory Kingpin. I'm on the road 1.5 hours each day round trip to work and back home, 80% of that is highway miles. The cruisers are great for the weekend but I would like something a little more agile in traffic and the added safety of ABS. What I've learned with the bikes I've owned is that the suspension quality is sacrificed in lower priced bikes and I'm concerned the same is true with these two adventure bikes. I know the Kawasaki Versys out performs the Honda CB500X in every way. I also know it would end up costing about a $1,000 more after I set up the Honda the way I want it, similar to the Versys LT. My question is the Honda good enough for the daily commute in rush hour traffic (80mph is sometimes hit just staying with traffic), will it sound like it's being worked too hard? Is the suspension high enough quality so your not bouncing all over the place and would I be left wanting for more if I purchased it? The Versys 650 LT is at the upper end of what I would want for this type of bike, no need for a BMW, but is it more than I need? Which ever I get it's primary use would be commuting, weekend trips, and extended week long tours. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoy your reviews, thanks!
This might actually be the best ADV bike out there. It's light, not too tall, and has more power than the Versys 300. I don't know why people need a huge tank of a bike, which you can't pick up yourself once it falls.
Jamie, I saw ALL your videos (half of the visualization of the StreetFighter trip to Italy are mine ahahah). But one. The Death Valley one. It says it is "private". Any particular reason? I'm really curious!!
try a Transalp 600/650 if you have not already . I have a 600 and I find it perfect best bike I have owned in 29 years of continuous riding plenty of speed to go crazy some times they handle great too . cruisers are very limited in what they can do not much fun at all really unless you like chrome noise and riding like a girl LOL

+Bob Marley KTM 1190 was my kind of bike! Hard hitting engine and plenty of speed and fun! Sadly it was a bit heavy in some situations. At the moment I have a CBR600F4i, which is quite good balance between comfort and handling and can cope with a great variety of terrains. Although I am constantly dreaming of lighter and faster bike with more suspension travel :) Transalp 600 is just as heavy as my CBR600 and lacks half of the power :P
I know they are not fast as a cbr600 but they are a joy to ride . you are happy with the speed they have its hard to explain if you ride one you will know not ideal for a lot of motorway work but on pot holed back roads with poor surface they are great also for city commuting they are very comfortable . in the right hands with proper tyres they can plow through wet mud on enduro courses leaving lesser riders on proper crossers stuck in the mud very funny sight to see . take a test ride on one if you get the chance some time . I hear bad things about KTM I wouldn't buy one fast but fragile .
Like the bike and the review. Could you ride some vintage bikes or some used bikes? Some input on those would be nice. I hope you get many, many, many more subscribers.
Nice review Jamie, I think honda has the right idea. I ride a heavy weight dual sport (DR650) and when you're adventure riding bigger is not always better. Looks like a decent bike and its reasonably priced. I'd have to ride one first. Would be nice more smaller adventure bikes like smaller Tenere here.
Recently got my M endorsement. Would this be a good first bike, or should I get something smaller while I'm learning the ropes? FWIW- I have no plans to ever ride on the highway; at least not for a very long time.
The bike I am going to buy, actually I prefer the scrambler ducati but insurance is much more expensive on the scrambler., so I will settle with the honda...
Buddy, pay the insurance on the Scrambler. If you rode both of these for a weekend, you'd be smiling every time you signed that check. Ducatis are full of character, and bikes like this Honda has been putting out for the last few years are not really for the American market. These are bikes for some east Asian guy to ride to work, like buying a Toyota Corolla here.
Something I've seen on those bikes is how easily and quickly those flimsy and thin plastic side-panels get scratched and marred up. Other than that I would have liked to have seen better brakes, and the engine be a true near 50occ one rather than an oversize 450 like it is. Now if Honda would make an 800cc or so version of this bike with better brakes I'd want to buy one.
Leo Veroude That VTec engine is not desirable at all, and doing valve adjustments on it is an absolute nightmare, no thanks. Also overweight. It's just not what I would consider a good bike at all.
Motorcycle Extremist I cannot argue with that. They are heavy, as are many of the 800cc "adventure bikes. HadesOmega has the right idea. I'm a big fan of the NC700x, although I think it's a 750 now and it's had a gearing/torque makeover in the process. If I wanted to buy new, it would be between the NC750X and the Kawasaki Versys 650.

a more affordable similar kind of bike although slightly bigger and not quite as good mpg but still not bad is the older Honda Transalp xl600v built from 1987 to 1990 or for a bit more money a Transalp 650 built from 2000 to 2006 . the perfect adventure bike if you ask me . one will happily pull 2 average sized persons and full gear all around the world several times no bother to it you will give up before the bike does they really are bullet proof .
I have xl600v 1998, how would it compare to cb500x in terms of comfort, agility, wind protection, feeling during the ride? I am planning to replace transalp, want something modern, safer (tubeless tires, abs, to be the first owner). I had flat front tyre on transalp (rim was damaged inside), at it was scary, but still like transalp very much. Hopefully this can be good replacement.
I'm pretty sure Jamie is the happiest and nicest motorcycle rider on earth.
needs to know RODOLFINHO DA Z
I'm collecting my CB500X on Tuesday, this video has made me even more excited!! Thanks Jamie and MotoGeo! Keep up the good work!

Around 100-105 mph or 160-168 kph, more than enough for sane people.
I wouldn't do that in my SUV. Incidentally, I made my CB500F purchase and am extremely happy with it. It's everything critics(?) bragged about.
Exactly my sentiments! Although there are scooters that are freeway eligible and have storage space to spare, I'd just rather have a moto for commuting. Manual trans cars were so much fun for me to drive and so it goes with motorcycles.

according to your experience what do you think of domi nx650 vs cb500x while offroad?
Best Motorcycle Ever!! Fantastic combination for a perfect riding experience more than 40 years riding , street, custom, trails, even Vespa , but Never found such balance for being able to have only one bike for everything. One can even make long milage trips on this Honda's unexpensive wonder.!
Always a good day when Jamie posts a new video :D
I've been waiting for this review, i think this does it! thanks for helping me make up my mind! Great Stuff as usual Jamie!
I have a 2013 CB500F and love it! I put a Two Brothers slip-on on it last year, and it was worth it 110%! Great video as always!
Great review, but I own one so I expected that :)
I went from an 800cc cruiser to this, ill never look back! and a shake my head wondering why I ever even thought a cruiser would be a good idea.
awesome all around bike, easy for beginners/new riders, my passenger finds it much more comfortable too!
Well said.
I'm torn between this and the Rebel? Thoughts?
It was quite the opposite for me. I went from a 500cc naked street bike to a cruiser and wondered why i didn't do that before.
Have you looked into Rally Raid products? You can convert the 500x into a really capable ADV bike...a Half-rica Twin you might say =)
I'm having difficulties to compare Honda CB500X with Versys 650.
I'm just waiting for delivery of my 500X, cannot wait!
most positive review... this guy would be joyful on a scooter...
Thanks Jamie!! I'm really considering this bike for my next motorcycle!
I had a KLR and I'm seriously considering buying this bike...nobody has anything other than positive things to say about it. I also love how inexpensive the ABS option is. This seems about as close as it gets to a perfect bike.
now waiting for you to ride the 2020/21 cb500x for comparison seeing you were so enthusiastic about the 2014 model
I really agree with the appeal of small adventure bikes. This one I would buy in a heartbeat.
Such a great channel, reviews are always helpful and full of insight. Keep on riding!
Would you take it for something like coast to coast ride? Or Central America tour?
Jamie, long time follower here. Wondering if you would recommend the 500 range for a beginner in the 6ft 180 lbs. Range for a new rider. I think 250s and 300s are too small for the bigger fellows.

Carl Shelton Suspension is very good. It's a comfortable ride.
Love my bike! Engine and practicity
Awesome! This makes me want one.
Great review, love your videos....and the accent! (Scouser?)
Looks fun with
Honda reliability.
;)
Nice review
I got it. Agreed. Great simple bike!!
Very nice review
Lovely bike indeed
Thumbs up

Really nice video. Is ABS an option for US models?
This is a really beautiful bike
Hello i have a question what you think is good bike for a new one rider ? Honda CB500X or Honda Nc750X ? i wanna one bike for to make long trips .
Jamie, I saw ALL your videos (half of the visualization of the StreetFighter trip to Italy are mine ahahah).
But one.
The Death Valley one.
It says it is "private".
Any particular reason?
I'm really curious!!
Would love to see a review of its competitor Benelli TRK502!
can you do an off road review of the cb500x 2019 I want to see if it s really better ? 19 in wheel more suspension
For me it felt boring, heavy and slow. Suspension didn't eat bumps that well.
I was a bit disappointed :/
+Bob Marley
Hah. That's why I hate cruiser bikes :D

+Miika Venäläinen Maybe CBR -GSX are your style
You get used to the horn rather quickly and it's very comfy once you're used to it.
Jamie you should revisit this bike which the stage 3 rally raid setup!
Nice quick concise review. Thanks! 👍🏼
the non adjustable front fork isn't that minor of an issue, not on an "adventure" bike anyway.
I wish they'd cut the distracting background music.
Like the bike and the review. Could you ride some vintage bikes or some used bikes? Some input on those would be nice. I hope you get many, many, many more subscribers.

aluisious Too bad I live in Italy... yearly insurance rate is 450 euros (not covering theft) versus 1350 for the scrambler...
Stefano Nicoloso Ouch. That's what I'd pay for theft and everything here for a Multistrada.
E dai, e fattela 'sta benedetta moto, che poi te faccio diverti' io, Stefani'!
marchinovis marchinovis ciao Marco.. ti ho pizzicato che guardi le moto su youtube!..
Nice shots of Alpinestar, Hope they are paying lots of money. Or at least free gear!
Something I've seen on those bikes is how easily and quickly those flimsy and thin plastic side-panels get scratched and marred up. Now if Honda would make an 800cc or so version of this bike with better brakes I'd want to buy one.
Honda actually does have a 800cc adventure model. The vfr800x. It's a V4 vtec engine.
PondeBro Honda keeps teasing us North Americans with bikes we can't have, the vfr800x is one of them. Not available here. (yet??)
They kind of do they make the NC700X, it basically a bigger version of the CB
Leo Veroude
That VTec engine is not desirable at all, and doing valve adjustments on it is an absolute nightmare, no thanks. Also overweight. It's just not what I would consider a good bike at all.
Motorcycle Extremist I cannot argue with that. They are heavy, as are many of the 800cc "adventure bikes. HadesOmega has the right idea. so im thinkink about CBX or CBF can u help me ? maybe give me some tips ..
we have the 2015 CBr500 and the only thing I hate on it is the horn button. otherwise wonderful bike
When that bike coming in the market in the philippines?
Put a necessary acessories on your cb,it more impresses you.
Interesting bike. I guess I'll give it a test ride
man what wif the twins , where in-line four ?
+MotoGeo Do you Know where this machine is manufactured???
Thailand
How is the power compared to a DL650 (V-Strom)?
Pathetic
V strom brakes suck though, trust me.
I would dare say that the honda is a more capable machine in the real world.
thealvaco Not on the 2013 on....
What is with that mileage! It uses half the fuel of my cb900
Hi, please help.
so I'm 6' something looking for an upright bike that handles well in the wet for 50/50% hectic London rush-hours / laid back country touring
CB500X or NC700X?
***** I've studied both bikes in and out. Test ridden both extensively and love both equally. One seems a little more suited for town whilst the other a little more touring. Think I'll have to flip for it.
+Dimitri Boyarski The cb500x will be a lot more agile responsive and fun.
anxiousappliance bought a transalp instead.
"The engine feels reliable." Damning by faint praise.
You should put on the title 2015 because later models have improved
Safe for a beginner to learn to ride on one of those?
+Hector F. Of course. 471cc isn't going to give you a ridiculous amount of power
like liter-bikes and some 600's. And the addition of ABS is even better
for quick breaking for beginners because the bike will be much less
likely to fishhook and collapse. I'd get a previously owned bike as a beginner bike though, that way you won't be too distraught if you end up dinging up the bike a bit.
UMMMM..... Start it
Best bike.For me !
Are these good in inner city between travels?
cb500x excels at City commuting!
Does yours use any oil, Always Dark, please?
CB means city bike or commuter bike. so they are good in city traffic.
Mate, the Extra's are VERY pricey.
I hate the way ALL Manufactures add stuff on to make extra profit. It's just getting stupid!
I do like the review though and I appreciate it!
Blahdeblah52 Who needs any of the extras? Stick a rack on it and strap a dry bag on it. Tank bag and you're away touring.
good video
I love mine
The new CL450!!!
that is not review. i was waiting you to ride with it and show it in action.
Jamie always rides the bike in one video then talks about it in a separate video.
Yes, mid-size, 750cc - 1200 large, 1300+ too freaking much! I have a 2014 CB500X. 😋
People, ad the model year.
That's a 2014 US version.
Great review, but was kind of expecting him to actually ride it.
He did.
I saw another vid where he rides it across California. Great vid too👍
a more affordable similar kind of bike although slightly bigger and not quite as good mpg but still not bad is the older Honda Transalp xl600v built from 1987 to 1990 or for a bit more money a Transalp 650 built from 2000 to 2006 . the perfect adventure bike if you ask me . one will happily pull 2 average sized persons and full gear all around the world several times no bother to it you will give up before the bike does they really are bullet proof .
+Bob Marley that should be 1987 to 1999 that the Transalp 600 was build . probably the best bike ever built ?
I have xl600v 1998, how would it compare to cb500x in terms of comfort, agility, wind protection, feeling during the ride?
I am planning to replace transalp, want something modern, safer (tubeless tires, abs, to be the first owner). I had flat front tyre on transalp (rim was damaged inside), at it was scary, but still like transalp very much. Hopefully this can be good replacement.
430lbs. for a 471cc bike. It weighs more than my old 750cc Norton.
That's with a full tank of gas so more like 390 tank empty.
But a hellovalot more reliable.......
Bad boy ? More "Mr Nice Guy" i would say .
Look the same with my cb400x. I have abs
👍👍👍👍
Another "beak" defining an ADVB bike? Reminds me too much of the nightmare of my bmw days.
Next time… KTM 390?? :)
Again a motogeo commercial message, it is getting a little rediculess......
I imagine Jamie enjoys buying food and sleeping under a roof.
aluisious I agree.
