Playing vs Sonic is like playing a guessing game.
That’s most of smash to be fair since you always have to play some rock paper scissors in the game

@@SkitsPerson yeah clouds a great character against sonic beast ass back air for insane shield pressure fast up smash projectiles fast up b punishes regardless of online sonic he still applies crazy pressure. Don’t let sonic breathe and you’ll have a good shot just like with fox just because he fast af and can keep up with him almost.

Sonic is a character that I feel can counter most if not all of these since they are more of "be the better player" and pretty bleak stuff(granted sonic is not 4 out of 82 for nothing),though something solid I think is a disjointed anti-air(not necessarily an up tilt but any disjoint that hits in front and slightly above you with some range), Sonic's most common landing aireals are n-air(this move is negatively disjointed so maybe try challenging it but the weak hit does 12% so it's pretty strong) and up air(he also can approach from alot of angles with specials in which spincharge has better acceleration),both are decently safe in general and have massive reward especially up air it's insane it's either neutral or -2 so it get's hurt alot by the fact that you don't have to respect the first hit which has the decent horizantal range,watch f tilt though sonic can out space you with it and f-smash.Also try looking out for when up air misconnects(try punishing with something safe) and when you get forced to tech due to falling out of spincharge(room to breath and position).

It's really cool to hear top players just spell things out so clearly and simply.
I don't know about others, but some of it I feel like I intuitively know or do and it's helpful to hear these things again explicitly.

Sonic main here. I would like to add this concept: you basically also have to bait him, mostly with jumps and hitboxes in place at safe distance (with and without hitboxes, also using platforms) while repositioning, since he cannot cover directly that kind of jumps (he has to read that or the landing after the jump and if you use an hitbox he can be intercepted in the attempt to do so) or he can whiff if he tries to cover you ground hitbox and you have already retreat.
If you gain stage control by doing that congrats, since his spin has relatively slow startup (beware that spincharge is faster but has no invincibily) and if you are at the correct distance and he tries to spin you can go for a burst option.
The thing is: it's important, vital, that you use hitboxes and jumps that doesnt put you in a spot where you can be punished afterward, so the most important thing against Sonic I would say is to learn the safe distance to play neutral with your character while PRESSURING him.
As I previously said you have to force him to use bad spins that let him lose stage control and then strike when is starting to retreat (back or forth) or shield his attempt to punish you while he's retreating.

All this is really helpful, but as a sonic main, there is a lot more that sonic can do in every scenario that the player has to watch out for, he has a lot of tech. It would be really complicated trying to remember all of that alone

My dumb analysis on the matchups i play vs sonic. Don't need to read but my 4am brain wanted to write kt down
So i play pit and sheik and both characters feel like the bad side of okay when it comes to fighting sonic
Pit would actually be quite good if his nair had suitable hitboxes, a similar "aaa profect me from the blue ball" button as aegis or corrin nair but as is its really inconsistent and against sonic that matters so much since its almost yoir only tool. So the matchup is doable but jusr sad cause it feels random if i win or lose an interation as simple as nairing sonic. Outside of that pit cant edgeguard without a hard read and can get edgeguarded pretty well and off stage usually means a lot in pit matchups. The other thing is the ground, good pit stays grounded as he has no air speed so characters that outclass him there like fox or inkling do very well. And... Well. Sonic.
And sheik i think might win, but it still feels bad. its so hard to keep up that level of defensive precision with her at all, let alone for an entire campy sonic set. She has the recovery to not get edgeguarded and the speed to keep up, but this is one of the few matchups the sheik stereotype feels true and its hard to get meaningful hits in. His mobility is crazy and a frame 2 airdodge on top of it? Its hard to edgeguard and combo him with anything sheik esque, so you rely on strays and BnB combos.
Its more than doable, but so hard

really weird thing i think zss is really good against sonic
Only character that can catch spinshots and sonic's advanced movement without predecting them 10 years in advance and has solid hitboxes,needs alot of patience though.
I’ve played against a bunch of ZSS as Sonic and I honestly don’t think it’s that good of a matchup for her. You’re better off playing Fox.

Sonic may be fast, but he doesn't have the range. His only "projectile" is his spring.
You'll need to think a lot faster than Sonic to beat him.
But hey, it could've been worse. Sonic's CANON speed would have him hated more than Steve!
Idk, Ftilt and Fsmash have very deceiving range. It’s not really an issue anyway when he already has several ways zip anywhere on the screen.
And Sonic is already 100% without a doubt hated more than Steve 😂

Sonic plain cheats, he never has a vulnerable animation. Unless you are as fast as Sonic. Man so boring.

@@matthewcabagelover9993 i understand your interpretation but he actually said know one really knows how to deal with all the Samus mixups, but I'm sure he could talk to a Samus top player and use his experience like he always does for a great video. I would love to see it
Learn to play at a distance where you won't be tether grabbed or run into a Fair, yet close enough to make them bait out the Fair, Grab, or forward roll. Then punish accordingly, now you conditioned them to not throw out fair or grab recklessly, giving you openings. Short hopping over her missiles and either empty landing grab if late or attacking during her missile lag also helps.
Edit: I'm a Bowser main that used to STRUGGLE vs her, but now that I know how to space around her, I find it a very doable slightly losing MU.
@@Telescreen5 thanks I appreciate the insight, I figured most of this but I'm not sure how to play against her semi-charged charged shot and down B bombs. I'm sure it all goes down to patience in the end but I want to make sure what 50/50's I'm jumping into.
