- Winter is here! Can't say we are enthusiastic about it but the moisture is welcome. Beginning to move some of the binned crops from 2022. Also managed to harvest a deer right before hunting season ended!

I was on my way back from Alaska to MN and spent the night in Shelby MT. It is definitley big sky country. Beautiful part of the world, that is for sure, as are many places. The Welkers are probably mad I let the cat out of the bag.

Congrats on the nice Muley! Can almost guarantee that the misfires were caused by over oiling the rifle. The oil gels up in cold weather and won’t allow the firing pin enough force to ignite the primer. Take the bolt apart and wipe dry for the winter.
So glad your life "balance" includes providing natural food for your family.👏

Awesome buck! I miss going deer hunting, actually quit 3 years ago as a reckless hunter was shooting a buck that was coming towards me and their rounds were ricocheting off the ground not even 10 yards from me. They could see me plain as day but still continued to fire. Anyway, the good Lord will always provide us with the means to keep our families full and healthy! God Bless!!

I grew up hunting fence rows and gravel road ditches in Iowa as a farm boy in 1975. I do miss it!
Growing up, we had a dog that loved to chase rabbits, if you hollered rabbit Ol Sputnik would jump off the pick up and chase anything. Thanks for Sharing. 🦌

Not a hunter anymore, I did my hunting in the nam jungles , but I understand the sport, stay safe folks.
Always happy for the guy who uses his kills. I don't hunt anymore as age has me by the tail, not to mention health. Three loads of peas.... won't make a payment on a tractor probably but nickels add up to dollars if enough show up... had a great thanksgiving... miss giving my kids rides on one of our truck hoods

Happy thanksgiving I almost got a shot on a nice 8 pointer earlier but it didn’t work out. Ended up getting a nice doe before dark though.

@@thereissomecoolstuff You want them to use a knife to kill it? Deer, Grizzly it really doesn't matter when you got a rifle and can kill it from 100 yards or more away. So what was your point? Also I don't think bear taste as good as deer.

Bob, I bet your glad its a mostly downhill route to the nearby elevators as I am sure hauling seed or fertilizer home up that hill is a bit of a slow go, and if its glare ice during the winter ( not sure how often you get that type of condition ) then it could be a bit of fun. 200 foot elevation drop in that just under a mile stretch, as long as you can stop at the stop sign and can keep it between the ditches, that's always a win !

@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob That reminds me of a long time ago I attended a driver training school near Tulsa for the oilfield company I was working for at the time in Alberta and one of the companies instructors that they would rotate out was from Colorado and an older white haired gentleman. One would have though he of all people would praise the jake brake for its ability to maintain a safe speed down a grade without having to use the service brakes and to this day I never figured out his reasoning but he did NOT approve of the use of engine brakes. We joked with each other in the class figuring that there was probably a good reason why his hair was white !.

Every deer is a trophy. Does not matter if it's a buck or doe. They all taste good. 😋
Harvesting meat for the freezer is an even bigger Blessing this year bc of prices at the store. Plus, you raised the grain that probably fed the deer too.
And there is no better tasting deer than grain fed deer. Worlds better than sage fed deer!
@@mtcelticharper I never had deer meat. Around Cristmas they most offer it here in Holland. I like to try it. Which part should i take? I guess you had several deers there. Red deers of course. Not green deers 😂 btw, i could"nt find a proper translation of sage fed. Would you explane please?
@@MrGerritStok sage brush is one of the dominant natural feed for deer in Montana.
Deer that eat grains taste a little different than deer that eat forage.
Whatever they sell in a grocer eats grain
@@MrGerritStok sure! It is sagebrush - that scrubby low bush you see in Western films. It has a very strong smell, and makes deer meat taste terrible when they eat it. We have two kinds of deer here - whitetail, which have long tails they wave when spooked, and mule deer, which have large fuzzy ears. The one Nick got was a mule deer. The red deer of Europe are beautiful to see, with much longer antler racks. I'm not a big fan of deer meat, but it does make good jerky and sausage.

Was just thinking today that I hadn't seen anything from Welkers.
I just arrived home from deer hunting and I saw your video. My hunting buddy harvested a meat whitetail buck this afternoon and I took a whitetail doe last Friday. We get our deer tested for Chronic Wasting Disease. We appreciate your videos about your tasks on the farm. I hope you had a wonderful American Thanksgiving. . . . Blessings. 😊 My grandfather had a great pea recipe. You take one round pea and one gallon of water. . . . if the soup is too thick, just add more water. I think he was referring to feeding the hired men. He always enjoyed telling the story. Of course he was kidding. 🤣

With the bad luck earlier this year things are looking up.
Nice buck. Bigger than what we have here in WV, but where I grew up in NY, a decent deer would dress out around 180. Lucky if you get 120 here because there are too many poachers and people that just want the head and antlers. Rally frustrating to come upon one that was just shot and wasted. Good luck with the rest of the season! Hopefully, your wives enjoy it too

Congratulations on the buck. I know having that meat in the freezer is really important. When my teenage boys were still at home, my annual grocery/household needs budget was nearly $20k per year.
